England v France,23/02/13

^ well that's very possible. But with the goal average thing England should really win the tournament...they basically have at this point already...

You know, I was looking back at highlights and stats from the past 2012 Rugby Championship...I have no relation with those 4 nations (well a bit of family in Australia, but that's neither here nor there...) and yet, the level of excitement was 100 times what I'm feeling now.
This will sound weird, especially to the English for whom..."a win is a win !! we'll take the win !! we come here to WIN !! Doesn't matter that it's ugly, it's a WIN !! AAAARRRHHH !!!" -
but I've come to the conclusion, since this tournament has been so immensely shittty to sit through (level of play I mean, not outcome), that it is truly the quality of play that matters. We stand behind our team, our national side, with pride and hope they'll make us proud back and all...but why do you watch rugby ? Is it politics or a sport. If you're that irrationally chauvinistic that you'll take a horrible, painful to watch grindout win (not targeting anyone here ! honest...), just as long as your country wins...then wtf, just become a historian and look for every possible argument as to why your country is great.
I watch rugby coz I like watching rugby :p, sounds ridiculously obvious but here I am with the necessity to mention such a thing.

If my team were to go through the shittiest road in a World Cup, struggle every single match, play in the trenches, in the mud, not score a try for every 2 matches we play, all the way til the final and win...seriously, what's the fkn point ? You sat yourself through all that, just so you can go "yayyyyy...we won the world cup....".
What a small, petty mind reacts that way ??...what's the price to pay for victory ?...in the end it's just one side surviving another for 80minutes. And the we all cheer like drones "yayyyyy...", just wtf...if there's no spectacle. I watch to have fun, not for MY TEAM TO WIN NO MATTER WHAAAAAAAAT !!!...I'd still have felt like ****, I'll repeat this, had we won the past 3, the way we played them...except the first one in Italy, would've been nice coz it was a nice game...but penalties and defense for 80min ?? fk this sht, I'm goin back to my playstation 2 !...

I think I'm going to ask for a South African passport...or Argentinian.

yoe91, that was the most EPIC and moving speech I have ever heard, not just from a rugby perspective, but in the general context of life and the universe itself. I guess what I'm trying to say is... What doth life?

Is`nt French angst a wonderful thing?

A microism of the entire sport is on display in this thread.

Follow a team who are not doing well, recieve mockery in the name of banter.

Follow team who are doing well, become assosciated with bandwagoning pillocks.

Typical pseudo-intellectual Barbour coat wearing England rugby fan, embarrassed by success and obsessed with how we are percieved by the opposition. :)

Hello all.
I've been away, so I couldn't post my feelings on the warm-up to the game (only short comments on a couple of other people's posts), and am only now watching the game.
It is, I know, very easy to say this opinions knowing the result, but I hope you trust me this is something I was thinking before the game. I think thhe result was very predictible: France "showing up", but still losing. I think this would've happenned pretty much independently of selections and coaching, it's just the French side nature. I'll open a thread to discuss on PSA's selections and coaching, as I think it deserves a look in more perspective, considering also the results (or lack thereof) since last year's 6N.

A few pages back (I'm sorry, I haven't read all the posts in this thread) there was some discussion on the decay of the Six Nations as a tournament. I have a different opinion: the Six Nations Championship has never been important. Let me explain what I mean: Six Nations games are still a big deal, but the position table and the Six Nations trophy can, IMO, be done away with. Each game should be hard fought and played like the test match it is. There is no "dead rubber" in international rugby, and having a championship and a trophy just makes the game between, say, Ireland and Italy in week five, irrelevant.
The trophy itself has little value in France and England (they've won "too many" if that's possible), and now that Wales and Ireland have caught up, a championship win with no Grand Slam is of little value for them as well. Also, the trophy has only existed since 1993, hardly a tradition.
I say let's have a proper trophy for the Grand Slam winner, keep the secondary ones like the Triple Crown and the Calcutta Cup (that have more history than the 6N itself), and the minnor ones (like the Garibaldi trophy and others), and let's give the 6N trophy to... I don't know, charity.

How are Man City getting on, or have you switched elegance to Man United yet?

Oh I see, you`re using the oft quoted (usually by the Welsh!) supposed insult that a vast swathe of England rugby supporters are closet football fans with only a f*ckwit`s knowledge of the game of rugby?
That`ll go down well in the Valleys.........as I said, you`re obsessed with how the opposition see you are`nt you?

Why so angry Janner? Do the taffs threaten and intimidate you?

You need a hug.

You need a hug.

So a Gayer as well as someone with a pathological need to be popular!
Look, you don`t have to be an internet white knight all the time you know!

well it's my genuine sentiment...but I'll accept any joke or comment about it surely, I mean, I knew as I was typing what I was getting into ! But it's truly the way I feel, how petty are we to hide behind our national side and want it to win at all cost !...aren't we small individuals !...

Not to worry, he'll sod off once England are beat again.
