England v France,23/02/13

You're forgetting Ashton never plays alongside Foden any more. Those two worked as a brilliant double-act, Foden created and Flash finished. With Goode alongside him he simply doesn't get that service.

He was injured early in the season against Bath and been struggling with his fitness since then.

He played a blinder this afternoon though.

Why is Luke Arscott never mentioned for England absolutely quality player.
He's been great for Exeter this year. I think it's because most thought fullback was a safe position, but then Foden went and got injured/lost form.

I missed the game :-(

How did Courtney Lawes (i believe played as Lock) and Hartley do? I really hope they get back into the England side (subs bench) as i am a big fan of Northampton side (i lived their for 11 years).

Where is Foden these days?
Better fullback than Goode IMHO.

Goode offers a little bit more as a second reciever and a kicking option. But is slower then Benny Hill chasing ***ies.

Our backline is the least feared in the 6N as we lack any killer pace/try scoring backs.

Because we are ridiculously well-off for full-backs right now. Foden, Brown and Goode is fantastic depth in and of itself, before you even consider players like Arscott - or Rob Miller, or Jonny May, or Abendanon. Probably our two brightest backs prospect at age-grade can both play full-back as well - Nowell and Watson.

It's so fantastic, we can afford to forget Delon Armitage exists.

Would trade all three for one Halfpenny/Hogg atm though. ;)

I wouldn't. I'm somewhat surprised at just how quickly people have forgotten what a deadly player an on-form Foden is, and I'd love to see Brown given a proper go.

I did say "atm" :p

And I do think Foden is the only one who has the natural ability to challenge Halfpenny/Hogg.

But it wouldn't actually surprise me if Foden never came back to his best. I remember waiting and waiting on Armitage and he never came back like he was in 08. (Was it 08? 09?)

Armitage was never any good in the first place. Considering that England team he was put into, a fair analogy would be like drropping shards of broken glass into a dog **** then calling them diamonds.

Foden on peak (I.E. next season when he's had a proper rest) will be better then Halfpenny and Hogg. He's far better now then the current incumbents of the England shirt.

Goode's one of those players who, although seemingly important to England's revival, stands very little chance of being in the mix when it all comes good. Foden definitely should be in the mix, though. Brown may be.

Daly has some potential there in addition to the names spoken above, but gets little gametime. Maybe next season when Dai realises that Southwell is decrepit.

But I'm sure that for Lancaster the current back three is nothing more than a holding group, until the production line catches up a bit. Players like Wade and May appear to be very close to readiness, in my opinion.

I'm very excited to see May for England - should hopefully get a shot over the summer.
Grown a lot over the last season, becoming more rounded.

Are we sure we want to start Halfpenny vs. Foden again? Because I will fight Leigh's corner to the death :p

But in all seriousness, my starting Lions fullback would, without a doubt, be a certain Gavin Henson. What a player.

Hmmm... I wouldn't be so adamant of that. I haven't seen Halfpenny's form falter once since he debuted for Wales, he has only grown as a player. I've seen it happen to Foden a couple of times now. He is the one Welsh player I really believe could stake a claim for best in his position in the world at the minute. He is also one of the most committed and passionate players I think I've ever seen on an international field. He reminds me of the likes of Jason Robinson or Brian O'Driscoll in terms of his reliability and steady mind, and I easily forget he is still only 24 years old.

I wasn't certain whether to include Daly, as I wasn't certain where he'd end up (although my preference would be full-back) but this article - http://www.express.co.uk/sport/rugb...-Elliot-Daly-hoping-to-jump-the-England-queue - says he very much should be. Which is good. And I hope you're right, if even a third of our back-three prospects hit anything like their potential, then we will have a unit to **** all over the current mob in a few years.

Gloucester fans are adamant that he's a winger, and that he's now shining because he's playing in his natural position. (He played fullback last season because Olly Morgan was out.) Good for England too, because that's our problem position! When JSD gets back, I can't see Sharples keeping his place in the Glos XV. BUT I think Sharples could benefit in the long-term from a move to fullback. He's developed his defensive game and has a good boot. His awareness of space is good too, and I think he's a little more level-headed than May (who was prone to counterattacking and being turned over when the kick was the right option).

11. JSD 14. May 15. Foden/Brown

Now that's a back 3 to worry opposition. Selection is easy. England can have my contact details upon request. :p

Troll. :p I did say challenge.

Gavin Henson can play any position he wants to.
