England Squad Announced

I really hope he does get game time, but knowing Johnson he wont :(

I wouldn't be surprised to see Paul Hodgson in the WC squad over him, to be honest

Was not expecting to see that headline when I looked on the bbc sport page. 2 years ago I would have said thank god, but recently he's been one of our best players, at least most reliable, and he's been there for us with a positive attitude and calmness when youngs lost it in high pressure games or just when things went awry in general.

From here there's literally no two ways about it, simpson has to be next in line. If youngs is injured again soon which isn't unlikely we don't want to be stuck with two slow and steady 9s, we need the pace and incision of simpson. Even if mj isn't a fan of simpson his inclusin objectively makes more sense then hodgson. Do we really want to go to the world cup with wigglesworth and hodgson first choice...?

Because he started Banahan twice, and played Hape and Easter,
Didn't give Simpson a chance at all, or Sharples a decent run out
Didn't try Robshaw at all either

Wilkinson on the bench ? that's a joke! the guy has never failed England on the world cup what else can he do.... the man is a legend... at least his the only player I'm familiar with from the whole England squad. anyway i just hope he doesn't play against Georgia... it would be great if you decide to field your youngest players against Georgia (great for us)

I imagine England will play most of there second string vs Georgia as they are bruisers, and you don't want to get your stars injured early on.

I know it's a week off for the England players, and they have been released back to their clubs, but do we think that if they play for their clubs this week they're unlikely to feature for England?

Chris Robshaw is starting for Quins in their next match, as is Hodgson for Sarries (with Botha on the bench)

No Matt Stevens for Sarries etc. so I presume that playing = dropped (or at least not featuring vs Ireland)

To be fair I expected Robshaw to be dropped, was 50/50 on Botha, but I did expect Hodgson to feature

Simpson has not been included in the Wasps squad to Munster so I assume he is going to be in the World Cup squad? Guess we will find out on Monday

I am worried about 9 now, I have never been Danny Care's biggest fan (such slow ball!) but when our best scrum half has no game time and the only other choices we have are an average journeyman (Wigglesworth) and a totally untested but highly rated (not that we have ever had any over rated Wasps players getting England caps....) in Simpson the cupboard looks bare...but then it did in 2007 when Shaun Perry was our first choice with Ellis injured and a average journeyman called Andy Gomersall put his hand up and had a great wc so there is hope yet......

How is Wigglesworth a journeyman?!
Started at Sale in the academy, came through that, played for Sale for 8 years before moving to Saracens because he wanted more 1st XV game time
Might as well call Care a journeyman as well then, he's been at two clubs too....

Ok journeyman is a bit harsh but he has never really made the grade at international level has he? OK replacement at best

Oh I agree about that :)
He's a decent club player and, as you said, all right as a backup at international level, but I wouldn't have him as first choice scrumhalf going into a worldcup/six nations/test series :p

Shaun Perry

how an earth did that chubster ever become England's number 1 SH?

some of the players England played during the 2006-07 period make me cringe at how awful they were

Daily Mail think that this is the team (and I'm inclined to believe them)

Can't believe both Banahan and Hape made the cut over Flutey - he may not have had a brilliant game vs Wales, but he was infinitely better than those two bags of poo

I'd really like to see Ugo Monye have a go, like him so much more than Banahan. Would've been nice to have seen Owen Farrell have a run in these warm-up tests.

Simpson-Daniel, Sharples and Monye would all have been better options than Banahan :(

The only thing I can hope for is that Hape and Banahan start against Ireland and both break their arms and legs getting smashed by SOB
