Bias England commentary

what's wrong with bias? Everyone has to support a team. Bias is only annoying when the commentator moans about every decision against his team, or bigs up his own team's players. Vickery's fine, just boring.

The best pundit by far this RWC has been Alan Quinlan.

Even the great Bill McLaren couldn't held get a little more excited then usual when Scotland did something right.
Did you just compare Vickerys commentary to McLaren? Come on McLaren was awesome.

I dont mind a little bias commentary to be honest

Meh ITV have always been like this, the whole ''and now to the England camp'' pretty much every day (sometimes 2 or 3 times a day) is very annoying! I've got no problem at all with them going to the England camp a lot, but find it really daft that they don't give the same kind of coverage to the other home nations. They did this within something like 30mins of their World Cup coverage starting, and an English friend of mine said something like ''well it's because Englands bigger, so will have more viewers'' - doesn't really make sense to me, as it's the coverage for all of Britain so all viewers should be catered for.
Whenever I've had the chance I switch to S4C, they actually know what they're talking about (unlike many of ITV's pundits/commentators!), don't have any pointless and awkward gimmicks like ITV's touch screen thing and (kind of ironically) aren't really biased. Always found it funny that they aren't biased, not as if there's many Welsh speaking English/Irish/Scottish fans to complain about it! That said, the English language option of S4C is awful apparently! Never watched it personally, but heard bad things about their commentary.

Dont forget you do have scrum 5 (which I watch) and that gives you your very own 1 hour program about welsh rugby

I prefer commentators to just straigh call a game, giving credit where credit's due and being informitive about the players. Too many times channels employ former rugby players who have a limited understanding of the game and only really add a "colour commentary". I have mates who can talk rubbish about the game and make jokes about the players, and I don't even especially like that. Too many times commentators try be personalities, and all I was is a guy who can tell me which player took the ball to the line and any relavent stats. I'm a grumpy ******* when watching a game.

I did love the BBC's commentary during the Six Nations final though.
Wilkinson lines up the penalty.
Commentator:''Oh and this is three points already on the board.''
Wilkinson misses...

That always happens when the commentators say something like that :p.

I like the Foxsports commentators, they know there stuff and throw in a joke form time to time.

Craig Doyle's been a good laugh actually.

Yeah Craig Doyle's pretty funny on occasion. Before one of the Welsh games, think it may have been Wales v SA, Thom Evans and Gareth Thomas were with him in the studio, and both were wearing pretty much the same outfit, and Doyle just casually said: "you two obviously got a Specsavers two for one special with those outfits", very funny imo.

I have not been a fan of Vickery in the slightest. He barely has anything to say about the opposition (when England are playing), he's just completely one sided, boring and uninformative.

Welsh commentary coverage on S4C is easily the best around imo, pity the rest of the world can't appreciate it. Gwyn Jones is an excellent statistician, and as Thingimubob said, they're actually relatively un biased. The only problem they have is always placing Derwyn Jones next to the shortest person they can find, and for some reason having Derwyn closest to the camera! Unfortunately I live in England and can't get S4C as I haven't got Sky (got Virgin instead and they don't carry S4C). S4C's live stream off their website is poor quality and laggy. My only option is to watch S4C through Zattoo, which is very good quality, but only streams with the English commentary option, which is pretty rubbish tbh.

Until a year or two ago S4C only did English Commentry on certain matches and you had to put the subtitles on from the Welsh commentry. It was (And still is. I can't stand Dai Bishop) hillarious. They always mistranslate words and come out with brilliant phrases such as "Alun Wyn Jones is now on death row" when he moved from 5 to 6 and I remember a game against Ulster where a commentator exlaimed "Jason Tovey steps up to make the cake... He's done it! Drama at Cravendale!" as he slotted over the winner at Ravenhill.

Sorry, what was this about? Oh yeah, I quite like Craig Doyle, too. Steve Rider's terrible. Too dry, too dull, too English.

That always happens when the commentators say something like that :p.

More often then not whenever Wilkinson takes a kick. This "perfect kicker" myth is precisely that.

I quite like Hugh Bladen.
Seems to have an idea of the game and a decent sense of humour.
I'll mute the match if I feel Warren Brosnihan is about to start talking.

I cannot believe people are whinging about Phil Vickery but dont even mention Scott "who are Scotland playing again" Hastings who is by far the most bias commentator since his brother. All commentators are bias it just happens that Vickery is English so he is not allowed to be

You guys should listen to the NRL commentators, especially when playing the Warriors, nothing short of disgraceful... Aussie and Kiwi commentators are absolutely the most bias, I mean they actually call McCaw Captain Fantastic, live on air!!

I like to put the game on mute and commentate it myself, it's mad. Heaps can't deal with the bias, probably the worse thing that could ever happen to me.

APPLAUSE!!!

Warren Brosnihan is the worst commentator ever!

to stick to this thread, every nation has some biased commentators, but I think the nation who has the most are Australia!!

During Super 15 and Tri-nations, those guys just keep on praising their sides and can't say anything good about a NZ or SA team, the worst is Phil Kearns!

He'll even praise the Rebels when they lose 80-0 vs the Crusaders...

another guy who I can't stand is that Welsh guy who has a bit of a shrill voice, I don't know his name, but when he's on, I immediately switch to Afrikaans commentary, hell, I'll even switch to Xhosa commentary!!

The aussie commentators are bias at times (and are the most bias in the SH). But to say they never praise other teams is nonsense. And that they will praise the Rebels while losing 80-0...

Brosnihan is ****, it's like tries to make his voice sound husky, another guy who I dislike is Joel Stransky.

You are talking about Jonathan Davies, absolute plonker.

Whats wrong with Jonathan Davies?

His voice/accent is super annoying and he always, blindly defends the Welsh team. I don't like refs in general but he critizes refs even when they make the correct call.

Scrum V last night Davies put Sam Warbuton in the same bracket as Pocock and McCaw. Not sure about that.

They had Jed Thian on again very funny.

Also Brian Moore was mentioned as saying that Gethin Jenkins is now out of the front row union for scoring a try as a prop while using a side step.
See no English bias
