England Six Nations squad 2022

and like that Jack Willis is back.... tbh its far too early. He's only just started playing
Watched Willis quite closely yesterday. A few flashes of class, but a good number of mistakes and, totally understandably, clearly nowhere near where he needs to be. Whatever Jones' motives, it would be totally unfair to Willis to involve him in the 23.

They're off to France tomorrow. Presumably all 34 with a load coming back on Eurostar later in the week after being released back to their clubs. Feels a sensible way of going about it.

Yes very true, if anything i would have picked Tom Willis as Jack got one or two turnovers but is not up to speed yet. Play Alfie instead surely? Launchbury comes into line up and then personally id bring Ribbans in to bench.

Considering how much our game is built around defence atm that's a risk

My guess is EJ will go with:

Itoje Launchbury
Lawes Underhill
Simmonds

Isiekwe, Dombrandt
True... makes a better balanced defence and squad.

Ewells dropped from the squad is no surprise. Bringing Jack Willis back so soon is a surprise. Way too soon IMO.

Did the red card for Ewells mean he was automatically barred from being selected this weekend?

Probably,
It's an automatic citing and there's no way he's not getting banned

Ford's only played 26mins this six Nations, and 18 of them were vs Scotland
That's pretty nutty - might as well just go 6-2 and have Slade covering 10 if EJ doesn't like/trust him

We all know that Ford can't actually play without Farrell though.

It's a stupid Jones thing really but Ford went from our number 1 FH to not trusted for some reason. Yet Farrell will be playing again as soon as fit ffs.

He's up on the horns tomorrow, 2 weeks minimum.

Willis looked great a few weeks back on his re-debut but seemed quiet this weekend. We're stuffed whoever we put out, so I'd rather keep Willis away from the fray tbh. Let him work towards the summer etc.

6-2 would have been great in hindsight vs ireland given the red card and how out of their feet some of our forwards must have been towards the end.

Slade as 10 cover isnt the best though, he isnt bad but just isnt creative in the sameway Furbank wasnt that good at 10. I wonder why Malins stepped away from 10? Is it because Faz was 10 and he'd get more gametime or just that hes better in different positions?

Slade as 10 cover isnt the best though,
Oh aye, I'm not saying actually play him there - just that EJ has no intention of playing our backup 10 so as long as we've got someone vaguely capable of playing if there's injury then that's enough for our gameplan - be that Slade or (as you say) Malins

Jamie Blamire, Jack Willis, Orlando Bailey, Ollie Hassell-Collins, Max Malins and Alex Mitchell have been released from the squad.

Surprised at Malins, presume Daly to start and maybe Northmore on the bench or Lynagh?

Lynagh I imagine - or something **** with slade Daly midfield, Marchant wing and Youngs Ford the only back on benc

If Marchant ends up on the wing then it will show that Jones has learnt nothing. Replace one non-winger with another non-winger. I know Marchant isn't bad there, but that's at premiership level. He shouldn't be doing it for England outside of emergency injury cover mid-game.

So Genge, George, Sinks, Itoje, Launch, lawes, Simmonds, Dombrandt, Randall, Smith, Nowell, Slade, Daly, March, Steward with Dolly, Marler,?, Chessum, Barbeary, Youngs, Ford

Feels quite Eddie

2019: "RWC final with a low average age, with this experienced core we can build and be a formidable force by 2023"

2022: "All new back row. All new half-backs. All new centres. All new back three. All new bench."

Granted not entirely unwelcome, but this doesn't feel like progress.
