England Six Nations squad 2022

Right so a deserved loss and fair play to France.

EJ and other coaches need looking at thats fair but Playerwise what do we need to change?

So id like to see JWillis in the mix as well as Quirke.

We need to stick with Smith Marchant and Dombrandt

What do you lot think needs to happen? And dont say anything about the coaches please.
100% agree on all of the above.

Quirke and Mitchell at 9/21 for me.

Clearly we need wingers, but I'm not sure who. I'm not really sure on Radwan, OHC or Lynagh but I'd be willing to give them a shot.

I know May has his doubters, but we missed him (and Watson) badly. Having said that, he took a while to get to being a top test winger and I'd argue that at least one of the names above could get there if given the same amount of investment as May was.

Smith needs more time, bench him for a while. He looked panicky or trying to force things at times today.

Dombrandt and Marchant stay. As Tigs says, start looking at Kelly at 12 before Scotland invent a granny for him. Give Northmore some minutes off the bench, as well as OHC, Murley, a.n other winger

Bin Ewels forever, Isiekwe and Chessum can duke it out for the second lock spot if Launch isn't around. Hill and Martin need more of a look at 6 and Heyes or Collier as 3rd (maybe 2nd) choice TH.

And after today, what do we do if Curry is injured?

If only this was happening a year ago
Not sure Northmore's good enough TBH (and I say that as a fan of his) and he's most definitely not a 12.

Kelly is the outstanding candidate for that job. No-one else has really made a case at all and yes, he is capped.

For me I would like to see

1. Genge
2. George
3. Sinckler
4. Launch
5. Itoje
6. Lawes
7. Curry
8. Alfie
9. Quirke
10. Ford
11. Murley
12. Kelly
13. Marchant
14. Hassle-Collins
15. Steward

16. Dolly
17. Marler
18. Heyes
19. Chessum
20. Willis
21. Randall
22. Smith
23. Malins

Happy for Kelly in but why not stick with Smith? And what do you suggest?
Ford
His snubbing is ridiculous - he's had less than 30mins rugby this tournament yet is arguably the form 10 in the country (other argument is Smith but Ford is more consistent, doesn't necessarily have the gamebreaking peaks Smith does, but doesn't have the dips either)

16. Dolly
Imma sound real bias but Langdon > Dolly IMO
He had a dip in form at the start of this season, but he's getting back to his best now and I think he's more well rounded and more consistent at the lineout

Though Walker would be my first (technically third, behind George and LCD) choice

Barbeary needa a lot of work before he gets in the squad, and there's noone else there to play 8 when he breaks again. I'd have T Willis personally

You and @LeinsterMan (NotTigsMan) arent allowed opinions on Ford as there is vested interest.

Me tho, I am completely objective and he is better than DC.

I think a 10 like Smith is going to suck with Youngs at scrum half. Defensive line gets way too much time to set and the glory boy stuff will never come off. You almost need to go with flat distributor cause you aren't going to be doing anything dynamic.

Needs the backs and an 8 to hold a line as well. He'd look very different with peak Billy and Manu to work with, or even Jamie Roberts and Dayglo.

The summer tour squad will be interesting.

We need to look at Kelly and Ojomoh on that tour at 12...

We need actual wingers...pace on one and power on the other would be nice.
We need Underhill and Curry to stay fit...

We badly miss Kruis. We need to find Itojes partner. Where's our 6' 8 wrecking ball lock who does the core set piece work brilliantly...there's lots coming through but they're for post WC...

Or like he does with Dombrandt and Estehuizen week in week out.

Launchbury is the one in current place, but you are right, beyond that there is no one, all the others picked are 5.5 players like Itoje.
Where is the next Johnno?

It would be a compromise but I'd put Lawes back in the row and yes I know he's a bit light and has been playing all his recent rugby at 6. But he seemed to go OK vs Ire in the tight and is bigger than Woki. He's worth his place in the team but I'm not sure he fits the mould of what we should be looking for in the back row.

Look at Ire and Fra and the trend is more towards unisize, inter changeable back rowers. All the French back rowers last night were 1.90+ without being lock sized as are Doris and Conan. Even VdF is 1.86. All in the 105 - 115 kg range and mostly with decent hands. This is Willis brothers territory - they're instinctive back rowers, not unskillful and both naturally aggressive. If Jack can rediscover his form they should both get a go in the summer.

I'm not a big Gatland fan but at least he had a game plan, picked players who suited that and executed it.

How's he been going in super rugby? Heard he's had a right mare.

Lost all his games and "Promoted" to DOR with New Head coach coming in.

Plus point the Chiefs might pay us to take him

My vested interest is against him, given how he (and dad) left Bath in the lurch.

He's comfortably the best FH in England; and probably still will be, come the RWC. Smith will need to maximise his potential to overtake Ford on merit, rather than age-fade; and if that happens, he'll be truly special.

Needs the backs and an 8 to hold a line as well. He'd look very different with peak Billy and Manu to work with, or even Jamie Roberts and Dayglo.
Find me a FH where that doesn't apply.

Probably against forum rules but I feel a little sorry for Slade. Comfortably plays his best rugby at 13 and has had to watch from 12 as Marchant has come in and done well. Possibly well enough to become first choice.

This tournament has been a great learning curve for Smith - experience he needed - and I reckon he's worth persevering with. But like any 10 he needs much better and faster service from 9, which is obviously one of our key problems that needs fixing.

I think we can take it as read that Farrell will come back at 12. Not the perfect solution but he's played perfectly adequately there at times in the past. The important thing would be for Lawes to keep the captaincy so that Faz doesn't feel the need to take on the world, isn't the dominant voice and can just concentrate on his game.
