England Six Nations Squad 2012

I have decided we all must know sweet FA about rugby. A number of the England teams past and present clearly see things in Banahan that none of us can.

They know they game inside out, so we are all sacked from talking about it anymore they must know better

I'm throwing all the toys out the pram on this one. Armitage showed that step and that pace yesterday that goes beyond anything Banahan could dream of. And he genuinely can cover 2 positions, arguably 3. All better than HMS.

Narraway and Trinder injured? Glos players always seem to break when they get called up for England.

Waldrom is a good player, happy to see him in the main squad. Also not concerned about Banahan being in the squad, he'll just make up the numbers now (I hope...), just worried that the person who picked him is in charge of England...

Well that's that out the window. Armitage arrested for suspected assault, and thrown out of the England squad. He can't keep out of trouble for 5 mins!

That explains it, then.
Would still take May, Hopper, Twelvetrees, Monye, Abendanon etc.etc.etc. over Banahan though.

The English set-up hates Glaws players. They probably deliberately beat them with door knobs.

Oh well that's Armitage into the oops I have been a silly boy file. What is it with players at the moment can't they avoid trouble.

Safe to assume that, with our continental cousins circling, his England days are pretty much gone? If so, a real shame, quite ther mercurial talent.

Back to Banahanahan, did anyone see his tackle on Zebo as anything other than a shoulder barge??

Yes. It was an excellent try saving shoulder barge. I can't recall the last time I saw anyone pinged for a no arms tackle in that situation and there's usually at least one occasion a game.

I've heard some people say you can see the arms going out but I've yet to get a copy to watch back to find out whether this is true, didn't look it in the pub; suffice to say I don't care given how prevalent the offence is and how necessary it was. It would be like criticising a scrum-half for a crooked feed.

Also, I like how no one really gives a **** about Armitage being an idiot.

Is it wrong that I've come to expect this of any English player with even the faintest whiff of talent?

He's not good enough (at least, at the minute) to challenge Brown and Foden for his dropping to be a blow for the main England squad, and he's not young enough for me to want him primed for the future.

I think shits may have been given if he'd actually been in the EPS, but being dropped from the Saxons is no biggie for most fans. Either way, he's in the same boat as Danny Care - isolated incident, probably not that bad (split lip for 'victim'), but accounting for past misdemeanours and the current media angle on English rugby, and Armitage can have absolutely no complaint at national suspensions.

What's worse is it's paved the way for Banahan to be in the frame for Scotland. No Tuilagi or Trinder through injury, and with Allen excluded entirely my next option would have been to throw in Delon at 13... but that's completely dead now. So we'll either get Farrell wearing 13, which I think is a mistake, or we'll get Banahan at 13, which is an even bigger mistake.

Paul Doran-Jones has been called up to cover Wilson, who is injured.

While I think Wilson is better than a lot of people give him credit for, this is great news. Doran-Jones is probably the form English tighthead at the moment. Scrummaging well and getting around the park a lot. Can also play loose head too.
Would have him starting at 3 vs Wales, and if he isn't then definitely on the bench.

Doran-Jones got nudged around by the Scots A, while Dan Cole has so far acquited himself well in both tight and loose (with one horror miss tackle aside) against a far heavier Scots senior pack and the Italians, and you wish to replace him with Porno? Really?

Yes.
Doran-Jones has been a far better scrummager this season than Dan Cole, and far far better around the park.

Except in internationals. Where Doran-Jones got himself hung out to dry by all accounts while Cole's passed two hard tests and has done some fantastic counter-rucking work. Would you disagree with that?
