England Six Nations Squad 2012

I really find it disappointing that lancaster, despite his idea of creating a "new-look" England squad, still doesn't think about introducing a real openside into the squad.
Until england bring in a specialised openside they won't go anywhere fast.

Danny Care arrested for drunk and disorderly last night.
Wouldn't be surprised if that's the end of his England career.

Such a massive idiot. No doubt he's talented, but he's got a real lifestyle problem. I reckon Quins may be in the market for a new scrum half in the summer with all of this.

Surely it must be time for him to check in for some rehab? Serious now, people really need to push it with him if they have not done so already.

Rehab? I dunno, a guy going to heavy on the drink in his 20's isn't all that shocking. If he wants to throw his career away that's his own problem imo. Rehab is, in my eyes, massively over prescribed.

Mm...

From the sounds of it, Danny Care basically got caught short and was caught ******* behind a building. We've all been there, and none of us need to go into rehab.

I'm split in two minds providing this is true. That it's really is a big fuss about nothing, it's not a sign of trouble and we shouldn't lose a sense of proportion or demonise players over everything that happens. But the other part of me thinks, hang on, he's had a riot act read to him, surely he should be keeping his nose clean and avoiding even this... and honestly, without knowing the ins and outs, I don't know which course should be followed. A friend of mine who should know said at the time of the second arrest it had been coming as Care had been at it for months, but I don't know whether he changed after that.

Personally, I'm guessing he'll still be brought back in the summer. No one will remember the third one by then really, and the current 6N has exposed the frailty of our scrum-half stocks.

Young man gets arrested for being drunk and disorderly, not charged (= not a bad offence). Young man caught drink driving on the equivalent of about 4 pints at New Year, we've all done it. Young man gets caught urinating in public, we've all done it so many countless times it's not really a crime.

Stupid? possibly.
England career over? certainly not.
Rehab? **** off.

I protest the 'We have all done it comments'! :p

But yeah, apart from not being a good role model (not tha he ever was), I don't see how this should effect his England chances if he picks up his form and these... incidents?, don't affect his training or playing.

However if the coach opts not to select him because he thinks that it may effect the latter, or may be is already doing so, well then fair enough.

Their bodies are their careers, no need to go and get yourself alcohol poisoning or getting it to spend a night in jail.

He was kicked out of the England squad for a drinking offence, and then was cautioned (or whatever) by the police again shortly afterwards.
If Lancaster is given the England job then I don't think he'll pick him again.

I don't agree at all with ruling out players because of their private indiscretions. The fact of the matter is that Lancaster is only taking this hard line because our poor showing at the world cup. I don't like this new 'policy' because it smacks off our rugby executives throwing their toys out the pram at the very idea of not reaching a final. The reason we didn't reach another final was not simply off the field distractions or discipline, it was a mix of inadequate coaching, in my opinion conservative and generally poor squad selections etc. I don't think it's right for Lancaster to take Care's punishment into his own hands just because Tindall and his bunch of merry fools were rubbish and gave the media a brilliant 'excuse' for failure. I can see that it's convenient, as this way, we don't have to admit that our squad wasn't good enough and did not play well enough. Let's be fair, Care is hardworking on the field, and I would rather have him doing that on the field and whatever off (apart from drink driving, as that is dangerous to other people) , than have Youngs playing like dogsh*t on the field and being quiet off it.

In other news, Karl Dickson and Joe Launchbury have both been called into the squad.

I will be over here sulking mildly that we haven't seized the chance to put one of Attwood and Garvey into the team.

imo when it comes to discipline outside the work environment or the playing field, punishment or sanction for bad behavior should be entirely a matter for the police and the courts.

I wouldn't want my employer suspending me for something I did at the weekend which had 0 impact on my work in the workplace/

Why has Launchbury been called up?!

I mean, he's a decent enough player but he's only been back for Wasps for a week or two, after a lay off through injury!
Attwood has trained with England before, and Garvey for the Saxons - both make a lot more sense than Launchbury.
