Well, that solves that one I guess. Gah. Bloody pillock.

How many centres will Lancaster likely include in the final 31 man squad? Just trying to think who'll make it now Tuilagi's out. I'd personally go for Barrett, Joseph, Burrell and Eastmond, with Slade to come in if there's room.

I think he'll take JJ and Barritt as his 2 starters with 12T or Burrell as backup 12s then Slade as 10/13 cover. That way he can pick 2 10s (Ford and Farrell) and still have cover there in Slade.

Anyone else think this might means he pushed the police officer in a aggressive manner.

As if he was to punch a female police officer surely he would be in deep poo.

Great. You idiot Manu however I feel we are the only country who would ban there own player from a World Cup 5 months away.

Look at mike Phillips, constantly fighting but rarely if ever got banned from international rugby.

I don't agree with what Manu has done.

Maybe it's my dislike for Lancaster boiling over.

Leicester Tigers Director of Rugby Richard Cockerill said: "Manu knows and accepts his responsibilities and has received a significant punishment in being excluded from the England squad and the club will also take internal disciplinary action. While we do not in any way condone his actions in this case, Manu is a young man who has grown up in the public eye and he is a good professional in a top-level environment. He always gives his time very generously to supporters, particularly young ones, wherever he goes, and fully understands the role that the fans have played in his career. We will continue to work closely with him on his return to full fitness and look forward to his return to the field in due course."

Manu Tuilagi said: "I take full responsibility for my actions and unreservedly apologise to all those involved in the incident, Leicester Tigers and England. It is something I deeply regret and I totally accept the sentence given by the court. The club and Stuart have been very supportive and I understand their sanctions too. I know as an England player the need to conduct myself as a good role model for the game. I am very disappointed because my actions have let so many people down and I can only hope for a future chance to prove myself again."

No, I disagree, he has to be banned. You can't allow someone to assault a police officer and not incur any punishment. He is a role model in the public eye, and then think what kind of precedent it sets if a player is instantly allowed to play after such misconduct. Mike Phillips is not comparable - a couple of fights in training is nothing compared to being convicted of assault on a police officer.

On the plus side (a very small plus however), at least he will get a full uninterrupted summer and preseason to work on his injuries and get back to full fitness.

Yes, but to play devil's advocate, what has any of that got to do with England Rugby winning games? The most material effect it has on the RFU is the disapproving stares of their cash c-err, sorry, sponsors, and that is the real reason it won't be tolerated. It may be a moral stand, but it is certainly one of self-interest.

Also, how about Savea then as a comparison then?

What did Savea do then ?

There's an argument that a private organisation doesn't have the right to impose an additional punishment after the state has punished him. The legal system has found him guilty and decided the punishment within the law and that's where the matter should end.

Not necessarily saying this is my position (I'm undecided) but it's an argument.

Introduces an environment where players will be picked on individual ability regardless; leading to a side which is a loose bag of egos doing whatever they want off the pitch. Creates a side that will spit their collect dummies out when things start going wrong in a game. Alienates fans who see them all as tossers*, which means less youngsters being taken along to local clubs, damaging future sides.

Obviously Tuilagi alone won't cause this, but it's a dangerous precedent to set. As it stands, he's out for six months; so he'll be 23 and a half years old when he comes back. Hopefully he'll be like Care and come back the better player for it.

*I grew up in Middlesbrough; about 60% of our rugby club's juniors were kids whose parents were sick of the behaviour of the soccer team and wanted their kids to play/be interested in another sport as a result.

@BBCDanielS: Manu Tuilagi grabbed a taxi driver by the throat, kicked his wing mirror, and then pushed two female police officers hard in the chest.

At a home world cup PR is a big factor, always will be with a business and tournament like this. Also I'm glad that he has been told that he won't play for England. The last world cup was a shambles and people don't want us to look bad again.
The Savea situation is genuinely disgusting, how he can play after being guilty of beating his girlfriend ( though not 100% so that might not be the story) and not get any sort of punishment. But he's the next big thing for NZ so it gets glossed over, but we should be better than that.

Do people not remember the last world cup? Tolerance of off-field indiscipline just caused more indiscipline.

What a *** makes jumping off a boat at the last RWC a distant memory. Fair play to Lancaster on his decision. So Burrell @12 a shoo in now?

As an aside, does anyone know why you always see police officers in pairs of the same gender? It seems like that would be counter productive if they wanted to comfort, search, whatever, someone of a different gender- maybe they just go round with their friends?

A police officer is a police officer I don't think you have right to a comfort search as they have reasonable grounds to search you regardless if they are.
