England future management?

Rumour has it that they are wanting a setup of

Head Coach - Cockerill
Forwards - West
Backs - Healey
Breakdown - Back

A lot of international experience as head coach in that lineup.

My worry with Jake White would be that he takes England rugby back to the stone-age. Not exactly renowned for his back play (although he did well with Larkham for the Brumbies).

Do we have a Larkham type coach?

Trouble with England is when was the last attack minded English international who has made the jump to coach?

White would be a great person to have groom a assistant coach for the next 4 or so years.

I'm not quite convinced that's the mindset they should go with though.

1. Why do they have to be former players? England seem waaay too hung up on that. Regardless how they played is largely irrelevant to how they coach. PSA was one of the finest attacking players France have had - didn't exactly translate to 'flair rugby'.

2. Again - I don't think looking for players on the basis they are English is necessarily the step forward either. If one of the problems identified is that the English structure is prohibative - then it doesn't really make sence looking within that structure to provide the solution.

Wasn't saying England should look for former players.

Was just asking who are the most recent English international backs to turn to coaching.

More of a look to the far future as oppose to now.

Like Daryl Gibson or Mauger and New Zealand.

Ahh right. Gotcha.

Then of recent former players into coaching - Alex King and Mike Catt are the only one that really springs to mind. Wilkinson as a kicking coach...Unfortunately Mike Catt may have been thrown in the deep end and drowned at the start of his coaching career..

Jake White has said he won't be messed about a 3rd time http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/nov/12/jake-white-england-coach-rigmarole

Looks like the RFU is so poisonous it is putting off some top coaches, with White openly stating it. It turns out he was turned down in favour of Johnson then Lancaster and is not too happy with the idea of appearing to be involved but turned down again. At this rate no good coaches will want to take the England job because the RFU will have made it so unattractive to work in...

I am pretty sure I don't want Jake White. I think we've all seen his style of play and the world has marched on. Sure, the wheel turns, but it doesn't look like going back to White-ball being the best any time soon. Maybe if he has the players for it but here is the kicker - England don't. You can play a power and tactical kicking game with the players available in the wider pool, but I really would question the quality there and think it would come with some really big flaws.

Somewhat shocking that, wonder how much truth there is to it. It would be a pretty crappy move to steal the neighbouring nation's coaches.

Pretty sure we won't give a crap.

It's the pro era. Interesting Jones is still interested apparently.

I think we definitely have the players to play a 10 man game but why would we want to ? For the first time in ages we have a group of backs that can do damage . There aren't many countries in the world that have better potential back lines than us

I still think it will be Jones to be honest. His comments in press conference mean nothing.

Wayne Smith ruled himself out stating he wants a break... Then in the next sentence says "but like anyone of the offer is right I could have my head turned". Translated that maybe means "RFU I'm interested but it's going to cost you a lot...."

I'd be happy with either, agree with the comments about White above... Doesn't excite me in the way the other two do...

I don't see there being any chance of Wayne Smith. He wants to travel around the US, and the NZRU have basically said he could have any role in NZ if he wanted. I imagine that could even be the AB head coach post-2017 if he wanted the role. Which I don't think he does.
