England EPS 2016/17 season.

Redruth Johnson is right about Peat Johnson's being right. (Name the movie reference and win a prize)

What are Slade's clean breaks and defenders beaten stats like? I wouldn't imagine they're anything spectacular?

I had a quick dig for stats but couldn't find any. I'd have thought, TBH, that Faz has beaten more defenders than him though. I'm a fan of Slade, but until he really shows why he's more of a 12 than Faz, then if England stay with a 2 play maker set up, then Ford-Faz has to stay.

It would be Mallinder I'd be looking at most seriously, and I doubt he'd be ready for another season at least. He's big enough to provide the bosh if needed, but also has the hands and kicking.

Faz is aggressive in defence, but he doesn't seem very tactical, you can still occasionally see the rest of the team panic when he rushes up.

The reason not to stick with Ford and Faz is that Faz offers next to nothing in attack in the centres. He has shown he can do a bit with Sarries in attack in the 10 shirt, and even had his moments in the England 10 shirt (or playing first receiver), but I want a 12 who can offer something in the 12/13 channel.

Ford, Mallinder and Faz on the bench would be a very good selection for me, 23 shirt then goes to Daly who comfortable covers 13-15 (15 is slightly less solid, but Mallinder could also move there).

Blazing Saddles, where's my prize?

Totally agree on Mallinder.

Faz might offer something in attack at 12 if he actually played there for his club. He doesn't and is a 10 filling in quite well.

Not only does EJ value experience I think he also values mental toughness. Don't forget he appointed Farrell as a vice captain and that wasn't an arm around the shoulder gesture as it was with Billy. He also picked him ahead of Ford for the first Aussie test and that wasn't just on the back of Ford's meltdown against Wales. My hunch is that Jones simply trusts Farrell and that he'll take a lot of shifting from the team.

Slade is miles behind both Ford and Faz at the moment due to injury and not having a settled position.

I first watched that film as a seven year old... true story.

I remember getting hate for liking it as a 15 year old from people in school (I mean i first saw it @ 13 along with Pulp fiction and Kill Bill (which came out i think the year before) but had watched it multiple times since then), Completely missing the point that it was poking fun at racists.

The scene with the Native Americans speaking Yiddish to a family of blacks is genius, as a comment on race and marginalised groups in America. Just amazing.

...and this is my favourite scene of my favourite movie of all time.

Bath and Blazing Saddles, plus Life of Brusb, you really do like all the right things Ragerancher (except crash ball centres)

Slightly side note I do wonder If there will be a time when Exeter Chiefs comes into the cross hairs of american media attention.

(I mean prob never happen) but the fact it is a contentious issue in the US i can't see them looking at an English club doing it favourably.

Wasn't the Chiefs Exeters nickname due to it's large army presence?

I don't believe chief is a position in the army, navy maybe?

Yeah, sounds more likely. Besides, iirc, West Country is totally Andrew and Sodomy country.

I do find it slightly crass that they have adopted the whole native American schtick, but its not as bad as the Streatham Redskins...

*cough* Back to topic.

Yeah, Eddie clearly likes Faz. But then he's not against Ford either. I think at some point he has to pick and it will be pretty interesting to see which way he goes.

I'm not sure why there would ever have been a large army presence in Exeter. The answer is much better, in that it's much more straightforward and follows rugby tradition. Colloquially in the south west, the first XV of many sides (Redruth RFC included) were known as the chiefs. It's something that you don't here so much any more, but still a term I'll catch myself using from time to time to distinguish them from the seconds (Extra XV for anyone in the home counties) etc. The term was much more in vogue back when Rowe got involved in (IIRC) 1994. There's an article online somewhere in which he confirms this.
