England 6N 2016 - General Chit Chat

Maybe it's my Scottish pessimism (/memories of the last fifteen years), but surely you'd still say it's an easier task than the remaining three games? Fair point about the length of time together though, hadn't thought about that.

Yes, we would all like to see a rapid promotion of youth, and I also saw the Scotland and Italy games as a perfect chance to introduce them. However, EJ picked an team that had its confidence shot in the world cup, but has experience and could win those games. What's happening now is that players like Itoje, Clifford and hopefully Daly this weekend are being introduced into a confident, winning team rather than a team lacking confidence. Its the ideal way and in the ideal environment.

Come the summer tour, autumn and next years 6N then the progression will keep going. It's quite exciting. Now, if only we picked Kvesic at 7 ;)

On the Tuilagi debate, it's easy to pigeon hole someone, but his prime strengths remain power in a straight line and heavy defence. He's also more of an off loader than a passer. At 13 you're more defensively exposed and time and again we've seen his tendency to rush out of the line.

All of these point to 12 where can be much more involved in the game, causing damage in the heavy traffic, which is surely to the most benefit of any team he plays in. It might mean that his attacking role changes to consistently breaking the gain line by 2 or 3 metres and tying in lots of defenders, rather than the eye catching breaks into open field, but to be honest in space I'd rather see the superior speed and ball skills of JJ or Daly.

are there any English guys in that list and they talk about the French !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty sure all English.

Umaga for example has a English mum and born in England.

Not as if we set up academy in other countries is it.

Ratu Joe Cokanasiga moved to England @ 3 as his dad was in British Army

Ibitoye was born in London

Devante Onojaife is from Dubai and is a member of the Saints Academy like his brother Jordan.

I think you'll find that clubs like Sarries and Quinns have also set up academies in Abu Dhabi, sponsored by Etihad.

Don't mention David Smith :)

Yay, this conversation again.
"You're poachers"
"No you're poachers"
"No New Zealand are poachers"
"No Scotland are poachers"

I think we can all agree that Wales are the only real villains here as they capped Colin Charvis years before he was eligible to play for Wales (he was playing for London Welsh so they presumed he was Welsh, he only qualified on residency years after moving to Swansea).

I knew Charvis was English born but assumed Welsh parentage. Wikipedia clearly keen on poaching argument - sub-heading/summary for Charvis is "English rugby union player"!

Moving back to a topic for this board: Dan Robson.

If either Ben Youngs or Danny Care picked up a knock tomorrow Robson would be my choice to come into the squad.

At only 23 he has already played consistently well for Gloucester for two seasons (mainly from the bench) where he always seemed to make a positive impact & again for Wasps this season.

Since Joe Simpson got injured he has had a run of matches starting. He has an all round game which has really impressed. He demands quick ball from his forwards (which I personally like), he keeps flankers honest & has a high quality passing game. He also has pace to burn & his box kicking is solid.

Thoughts &, if not Dan Robson, then who and why?

Courtney Flaws is back then

As he's not injured and he's a member of Eddie Jones' EPS, then Lawes is the obvious replacement for an injured Launchbury for the game against Ireland, esp. as Beaumont is most likely out of the tournament.

What will happen after that is open to debate and really depends on Launchbury who is having problems with his hamstrings. If Eddie Jones needs an extra 2nd rower who would he pick?

As Irish Boy said on another thread, why not Matt Symons who is playing regularly for London Irish? Has shown his ability in NZ as well as over here and could rate highly in Eddie's thinking.

Didn't see the tigers game at the weekend how did he play? Did he play 12 again as well?

No 13 with JDV @12.

He was alright and lovely touch to JDV before JDV did a nice offload to Croft to score.

He was alright made a big hit but he is still 20% or so off being 100% AP match fit let alone International.
