England 2024/25

Going to be a weird 6N.

England with no Farrell or Youngs, France with no Dupont, Ireland with no Sexton, Wales with no fly half and Scotland with no Scotsmen.

Joking aside, this really is going to be a big change for everyone but France. Dupont and Ntamack will be missed, but there World Cup side isn't going to be drastically changed and what they lose in Dupont they mostly make up with the likes of Meafou and a bang in form club combination of Lucu and Jalibert.

Ireland are too good not to be there or thereabouts, but Crowley has a massive job in his hands in replacing Sexton and Hansen will be a big loss too.

Scotland. Not sure really … they've had our number recently, so a win at Murrayfield would be very satisfying.

Wales look like they're in trouble. Gatland is doing what he needs to by refreshing the squad, but with limited options at 10, loads of injuries and their biggest attacking threat (LRZ) now out of the picture, they're up against it. Arguably, that's the kind of scenario Gatland likes, but it's a mighty ask.

As far as we're concerned, I have no idea. I hope we play with a bit more freedom and creativity, but that may be too much to hope for.

Limited options at 10? Errrr, excuse me, Cai Evans thank you very much.

Commentators noted for the first game.

"So it says here he's played some rugby in his youth. By that we mean he played a bit of tag rugby in his youth at a summer camp. When responding to Warren Gatland's plea for players he drunkenly stood up and said "I played when I was young, how hard can it be against these fat fuckers."

The funeral has been penciled in for tomorrow afternoon."

Happy BorthBall Team Announcement Day to all who celebrate

I hope you've all drawn a nose scab on and are aimlessly running backwards and forwards in your garden chasing a ball you'll never touch
The evolution of English rugby to World Champions 2027 starts today ;)

Two and a bit months of waffle before the first EPS of the season (2023 squad was announced on January 16th)

64 pages is definitely an impressive amount of waffle.

You could have just said two and a bit months until we all feel incredibly deflated and locked the thread until today.

I'm half expecting Wigglesworth in the squad . I have little faith in SB to pick on talent as opposed to experience

My best guess at today's squad:

LP: Genge, Marler Obano (Baxter and Brantingham next off the rank if Marler and/or Genge are out)

HK: George, Dan, LCD/Langdon

TP: Cole, Stuart, Sinckler

LK: Itoje, Martin, Chessum, Ewels (that 4th slot really could go to anyone though; Isiekwe, Coles, Hill, perhaps even Tizard in contention)

FL: Really hard to guess here with so much uncertainty about the fitness of Underhill and Ludlam. Best guess - Earl, Pearson, Roots, Ludlam, Underhill (B. Curry probably next off the rank. After that maybe another lock with Itoje/Chessum/Coles covering back row)

N8: Vunipola, Barbeary

SH: Mitchell, Spencer, Care

FH: Smith x2, Ford

CE: Lawrence, Slade, Dingwall, Joseph

WG: Feyi-Waboso, Freeman, Cokanasiga, Daly, Watson (if fit, if not then probably Malins)

FB: Steward

I'd be surprised if it veers too much from that.

Hopefully no Vunipola.

Ludlam, Sinckler and J Hill all expected to be off to France - if Borthwick's pretty sure that's the case he should ignore them and anyone else in the same boat. He's got a freeish hit now in rebuilding the team (which will evaporate fairly quickly) and there's no point in investing in those who won't be available for the future. It's not like dropping them would cost us a GS or anything.

Slade is likely off to France or Japan as well.

Ahh 4 13s and no 12s...so crazy it just might work!

No but in all seriousness surely one of the young 12s will get a shot?.

Cokanasiga worries me tbh i just dont think parts of his game are up to it. Definitely has positives too ofcourse.

Oscar Beard is an odd one for me? Is he a 12 or 13?

Pretty good,

Oscar Beard is a surprise,
Delighted to see Ben Spencer there, and Roebuck/BC obv

Props pretty uninspiring, especially as two of the looseheads are currently injured, but great to see Obano back
Don't like Roots being there, Barbeary should definitely be there over Roots (or Cunningham-South)
Bit surprised at Isiekwe being there, but with Martin out I wonder if they're looking at him at 6

Very annoyed at no Langdon, LCD shouldn't be there on form or likelihood of jumping ship at the end of the season

Happy with George as captain, said it before but he would've always been my first choice from the players available
