England 2024/25

So Gus Warr has:
a) decided to persist with England despite not being in Borthwick's thoughts.
b) very recently gotten some communication from Borthwick that he could be involved with England/England A.
c) not been selected by either Scotland or England.

Which we thinking?

I doubt they willl. It suits them to help the weaker tier 1 teams as well in terms of making them more competitive.
No it's laziness not to develop your own players. Scotland outside of a few pockets have no real interest in rugby union. This lack of interest is a combination of culture and lack of investment by the SFU.

It should not be for England , South Africa or other T1 nations to allow them to in essence put minimum effort into player development on the basis that they can poach , steal or bend rules to supply their national team with players they haven't developed

Scotland has the same population size of Ireland and NZ. They should have enough of a base to develop their own player's.

Prob A.
Although I reckon he will be in the Saxons not like England has many other options fit ATM.

World rugby will only think about what brings in more money.

Who's going to make the obvious jibe about the policy working with Scotland being a tier 2 nation and all that?

Not me. I'm off to expunge my Scottish mother from my birth certificate.

Really embarrassing.

Why? If anything the rules became tighter. It's just that Scotland are shamelessly abusing a ruling designed to help Tier 2 nations. I'd like to think World Rugby will tighten it up some more rather than loosen it.
I'm pretty sure that the ability to switch countries in <4 years is a requirement for the sport to be in the Olympics. I suspect that the loosening of the rule may well have been at the request of the IOC as well, but that's much more supposition.

George as captain. Genge strongly considered for the captaincy but injury issues Slade and Cowan - Dickie both back. Feyi - Waboso and Roots likely to be called up. Dingwall and F Smith as well. Muir and Spencer probably in. van Poortvliet not yet fit. Sleightholme In the A squad.

From what Sanderson has said Warr won't be named for England, but Scotland were very very keen, so guessing he's turned them down to keep the England dream alive (A game)

Happy for Reed,
Can understand Hepburn making the switch, but still think it's a farce
Honestly im happy for Hepburn, Scottish mum (i think) and it isnt poaching given it would take a miracle for hime to play for England, its giving another chance to a player towards the end of his career.

Reed is a different story, happy for him but the system is odd.

Hepburn was born in Australia. Bet he tried them too - they always need props and the weather's a hell of a lot better.

Might just chuck a cheeky £5 on him and Henry Thomas as Lions props next year. Honest to God I think I'd die laughing if that happened.

Should, but they haven't been very good at it. Allegedly the ex SRU head was heavily into Scottish rugby making money. Why spend when you can get it for free.

Was Hamilton being serious or was he doing his comedy bit?

TBF it doesn't mean he wasn't picked, and his fitness does need work

He was being serious.

Context is that Jim was at the Bath game on the weekend and had a quick chat with Barbeary. He asked him if he'd had contact with Borthwick and what some of his work-ons were. Barbeary told him he'd been told to work on his kick chase which both Jim and Goode agreed was essentially a round-about way of saying he needs to up his fitness. Which is true.

Care saying on RUW this week that he thinks Marler and George should all make it back in time fitness wise, with Genge being closer to the wire.

Also that Murley is probably going to play again this weekend (not that that makes a huge difference to England selection as he's not played a huge amount regardless)
