DC aiming for the Big money in Europe after the RWC

I think Dan's big offer might be based on SBW's turned down offer from Toulon. He might have found out what Sonny was being offered and thought 'oh I'll try'. Thats my pure speculation anyway.

Dan's worth it though, there's ok Soccer players that get that amount I think. I know Soccer makes more money than Rugby and their players get more too but Dan's one of Rugby's best at the moment and he should get a 'crazy' contract. However they got Wilko havent they?...and Wilko's good.

wilkos good by no where near d.c i rekon.

Hes only asking for a little bit more than what Chabal is making, and really Dan Carter is probably going to contribute more to the teams success than Chabal. I dont know what was with the Toulon owners rant saying he "crossed the line". It looks to me to be a case of Carter wanting to stick around in NZ, but saying that if he gets offered a huge paycheck, he'll take it.

I don't really mind this at all, he leaves for 2-3 years, meaning the NZRU dont have to pay his salary. All Blacks develop another world class flyhalf, then he returns to sit on the bench for the 2015 world cup. After that he will probably squeeze out a couple more years in japan then return to the coaching scene in canterbury. I like that situation.

This is just nothing but media spin-doctoring (anyone know where Alistair Campbell is hiding?)

D.C. has not "demanded" this money, He has merely said that is what it will take to lure him away from New Zealand.

This is no different to me turning down an offer join the staff of a Swiss University, which I did in 1995. I turned down Sfr105,000 p.a. (about NZ$136,000) to join the faculty at Bern University. I was only earning 2/3 of that in NZ at the time, but the extra money I was offered was simply not enough to make it worth my while uprooting my family and going to live in Europe. If they had offered me Sfr 250,000, I might have considered it.

it depends on whether dc's agents approached toulon or toulon approached them, the way wilko is playing for them i dont think they need carter,in regards to chabal's worth he is more marketable than carter in france so he probably draws in more interest

I doubt anyone's agents approached anyone in particular to be honest. Its more likely that his agent put out a non club specific ballpark figure, or even that it was a throwaway comment from Carter.
Seriously why would Carter be worrying about contracts two years from now when he still has so much going on at the moment. And why would clubs bother hassling him when they know he isn't going anywhere for the time being.

And while i don't doubt that Chabal is a great marketing tool, i don't think Carter would be much worse if he committed himself for a 2 or 3 year stay in France. There is no doubting he created a huge buzz and drew in a large crowd when he played at perpignan and that was only for a few games. Carter has shown that he can sell **** in NZ, aside from that the yank E channel has named him the 3rd sexiest male athlete in the world and the 11th sexiest man in the world (don't ask how i know this), so he must hold some sway internationally.

Just finished watching Re-Union LIVE on The Rugby Channel. The only mention of Carter at all was with reference to his recovery (he's back running again) and the issue of who will be his understudy in the EOYT.

The topic of Dan Carter & Toulon not even raised or mentioned by TJ, Grant Harding or Justin Marshall.

As I thought, this is just media spin and grandstanding by the Toulon boss... must have been a slow sports news day in France!!

I remember reading somewhere, some one said they already have Wilko, what D.C wants is 150% of what Wilko gets. Then he said, is D.C worth 150% of Wilko? His answer was no.

He is worth 300% of Wilko to me, Wilko isn't even in the top five anymore. Just look how much the All Blacks struggled without him in Australia.

I think Dan might struggle in Europe but well his destination will probably be south of France although maybe Adidas will help Munster accomodate him. We will try fit him in somewhere :)

Meh, if Carter left after the RWC, I doubt he'd remake the All Black squad. He'd be about 33 come 2015, which isn't ancient, but I'd be worried if he was our best option. He deserves a huge amount of money, as he's the best 1st 5/8th in the world, and has been for over 5 years. Considering what SBW was being offered, paying Carter the salary he said he'd consider is hardly over stepping the line. If this is even real at all. You come to find only half of the rumours have any factual basis at all.

i think carter's clothing business hit the **** recently, maybe hes trying to recoup losses, every french person ive met know of chabal hes a real celeb over there but carter is only known by the rugby followers

Will Carter survive the NH game like I'm not saying he has faults but the physical demands etc are more intense and the 10 is hit alot more here.

That's true which means backrows will line him up and well fact he's dan Carter he'll be in for extra hard hits

Yep, if only he'd been playing in a competition with lots of Islanders, South Africans, and Aussies to prepare him for that ... oh wait a minute ... he has :p

Yea but he was getting quick ball there and backrows had a lesser chance but here it alot slower and way more forward orientated game

Well, he's one of the best outhalves of all time and has dicked many a NH defences in his time. I think he might be alright.

He has coped with that pretty well playing for the All Blacks against England, Scotland, Ireland & Wales so far. Against those sides, played 21, won 21. In fact, he has only once ever been in a losing team against a European side... and that France. We all know which game that was!

Another, NH vs SH thread?
Lol..
I gotta add my ten cents. Riki Flutey handled it well over there. Actually, he made the England side..

This is Dan Carter we're talking about, The BEST first five in the world and when Flutey was playing in NZ, he was like, the last choice first five for New Zealand.

My point is, Daniel Carter is so much better than Flutey and if he can make it into England's top team. He must have been alright playing over there.

Jeez Flutey was struggling to stay in the Hurricanes starting line up
