Coronavirus: David Icke kicked off Facebook https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-52501453

Good.

I like Icke and think this was wrong. Some of the things he says I disagree with but how can you not think the Queen is a shape shifting lizard from the 5th dimension?

In all serious it seems strange that they take him down for this now, but he's been talking about 5G for over a year and how it could lead to diseases becoming more prominent in humanity, let alone his other theories which could cause public health issues.

Icke is a rabid anti-Semite who hides behind "oh he just thinks the royal family are lizards lol"
Basically the English Alex Jones, spouting dangerous ideology but (for a long time) getting a free pass because of the ridiculousness of it

So apparently the government passed it's 100,000 test target. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52508836

However, looking at the numbers.
There were 122,347, but only 70,000 people were tested, so some people tested more than once?
Number also includes 27,497 home tests sent to people that they have no idea if they were completed, but were just sent and 12,872 tests to satellite centres that again they have no idea how many were actually used to test.

The other criticism apparently has been that while they've increased testing, they aren't increasing it for those who really need it and are just getting numbers up when care staff and hospital staff are still missing out.

For me it's **** like this which shows they are still playing politics instead of dealing with the crisis in the best possible way because they are more concerned about hitting a numbers target than testing effectively and with a clear purpose. S. Korea used testing with the tracing app to great effect. We've got nothing like that and while this will tell individuals if they have the virus, it isn't as effective in helping to stop the spread as it could be. On top they are also still failing to test those who work directly in care homes to the standard necessary, endangering older people in care homes. But sod it, most people will just see the headline and go yay. who cares about details or as they like to call it, the science.

Someone I know posted praising the government for meeting the 100,000 target on Facebook and, when confronted, said "now is not the time to play with statistics or play party politics". These people are so blinded they can't see it's the government playing party politics and the government playing with the statistics. As with the USA, the right wing just do not want to know, don't care to know and truth means nothing if you can score cheap political points.

Looking like it will be a phased return based on working environment.

I have also read in the Times about taking your own temperature before leaving house and getting on public transport; this will no doubt be in conjunction with the contact tracing app they plan to introduce.

How are you Irish guys feeling about your exit.
From the outside looks like a sensible option, but not 100% sure how rigid these dates will be depending I guess on outcomes of first stages ?

Yeah I'm happy, I think the next two weeks will be the most important. People are getting impatient but we just need to push through.

I'm currently set to start a new job in August, was initially meant to be April, so it eases anxiety over that a wee bit.

looks sensible to me and we can expect something similar.

Yeah I think the UK will announce something similar next week. Will be interesting to see if these small social bubbles of up to ten people form part of the measures.

"Outdoor meetings between people from different households will be allowed" from 18 May. Sounds like the start of BBQ season in Ireland.

Just to be clear - those are not set in stone.

For instance, if after enacting phase 1, cases spike far beyond envisaged levels, phase 2 won't happen on time and indeed phase 1 could be reversed.

As usual - the BBC are beyond useless and are starting to approach the current US administration in spreading dangerous misinformation. Right now there are probably folks in the UK thinking - "oh, sure we'll do what ireland are doing and that means by the end of August we're back to normal again".

In a statement issued this evening, the Government said: "As a country, we can only move from one phase to the next if the virus stays under control between each phase."

I think you are exaggerating a bit when comparing the BBC to the US administration and spreading dangerous misinformation. I don't think they are saying or you can say all people are thinking that it will be back to normal by end of August. Hence why the need to emphasise the R (Reinfection rate) number remaining below 1 and keeping an eye during the phased exit from the lock down. If it starts to spike again during the various phases then of course the UK and Irish Governments will need to revert back to lockdown (partial or full) as necessary.

This is all pretty much a going phase to phase and reviewing as they go along. And yes, BBC aren't going to get it totally right in their reporting on Ireland's exit strategy and need correcting.

Too many people in the UK pushing the boundaries as what it is acceptable as it is. Even if Boris didn't want to 'restart the economy' he's going to really struggle to keep people in although announcing we were past the peak won't help.

UKs plan will be different as many businesses are functioning because the rules have been work from if you can. It's about opening up 'social' spaces/businesses.

My main concern is one of distance travelled, it's likely by end of May we'll be able to see people outside our households however my only concern is my Dad who lives 120 miles away (my sister lives 60) and has been alone in all this. He also turns 60 so kinda want to be able to visit him or vice versa.

Kudos to you for being concerned about your Dad. Think positive and keep in mind that most in that age range are still in pretty good health. :)

Searching for accurate information via the BBC is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

If anything comes with significant caveats, it's likely not presented as such via the BBC.

Their ineptitude throughout this is a large part in how this government has been able to act so shambolically and get who knows how many people needlessly killed.

I suspect you just take them as gospel and have never bothered to look around and realise what you are missing.

A little bit yes. It'd be alarming if they were quite as bad as the orange menace.

But they have been harping on about "lifting lockdown" for weeks now - do they not realise them keeping at that will only make the general public more impatient? Do they not realise that the UK is lightyears away from having the systems and structures in place to safely start easing? Do they not realise they should be tackling the govt on where those systems/structures are rather than the dumb question of "when will lockdown lift?"

Oh come on man relax yourself, you don't always need to be on the offensive. I was just asking what you were on about...

****ing hell the amount of people I know going out for multiple exercises or doing it with people outside their household...
