[COVID-19] General Discussion

Blindside: Thank you. I saw a similar article after I made my previous post. When I got the J&J shot they told me it was good for 8 months. That 8 months will be up on January 14th, and I doubt they'll have the J&J booster available by then. So I'll go with the Pfizer or Moderna booster. Going to look for a location right now!

*I just did a location search and made an appointment for January 7th. That's the soonest availability, which is cutting it real close to the 8 month mark. Whew!

COBRA meeting of all four nations to met today according to the Guardian at 5pm. 82k cases reported today with 12k confirmed as Omicron. But given that this is a weekend yesterday and today's cases likely to be under reported, likely to be a lot more.

I'm willing to bet that on Friday an announcement will happen about a post christmas lockdown.
Won't happen Christmas Eve (at the very least no chance in hell Johnson will work that day), it'll be Wednesday at the latest. Work places need a full working day to adjust and you don't want to do it between Christmas/New Year due to the amount of factories/offices that go into shutdown.

Suspect number 3.

Still, too late for maybe 0.5%-1% who got infected last week.

In the mean time, I should take heed of above, as following case numbers daily is making me slightly nutty. ;).

Two then shortly after Three, imo

Just based on the last two years of them waiting until the last possible moment, then adding a few more days
Announce limited gatherings today, then Thursday evening announce a lockdown starting from Monday

They certainly aren't preparing the ground correctly for anything. Don't have Cummings leaking everything at the moment. Read more like Vallance and Whitty are going in to rough up a few ministers but nothing will come of it today.

Monday and Tuesday are bank holidays, will Johnson actually go to work those days?
Does he actually go to work on any day?

If I had to guess, I'd suggest he won't have a choice - I expect events to overtake him.
There's always a 10-14 day delay between cases jumping and hospitalisations coming through (when looking at the gross stat.s) - so... some time this week (hence all the deniers getting in their denials befpre it's too late - though they MAY yet be right [that severity is reduced enough], of course).

Yeh with the Netherlands going into lockdown over Xmas, number 3 is the minimum needed and as WT says probably from tomorrow. Sheer number of infections is going to overwhelm hospitals and also staff.

My expectation is that today, we're told to limit numbers over Christmas - probably in the 6-8 range.
Monday / Tuesday next week, we'll be told of full lockdown from "tomorrow"

I expect not to be able to go to Spain to scatter Mum-in-law's ashes first week of January

Will be interesting to see what they do with furlough etc., if we do go back into lockdown
