[COVID-19] General Discussion

My expectation is that today, we're told to limit numbers over Christmas - probably in the 6-8 range.
Monday / Tuesday next week, we'll be told of full lockdown from "tomorrow"

I expect not to be able to go to Spain to scatter Mum-in-law's ashes first week of January
Obviously not as bad but wife's 40th on the 10th so now going into re planning mode.

Yeh with the Netherlands going into lockdown over Xmas
They repeat absolutely the same scenario as it was a year ago: announce about a full lockdown (and quarantine for tourists) just 1.5-2 weeks before the NYE.. previous year I had to cancel my bookings in Amsterdam in the last minute and change a destination for the NYE,this year I will just choose another country from the beginning instead. Not against lockdowns and quarantines when it's really needed, but at least authorities can prevent people a bit earlier about it when it comes to holidays

1) Do sweet FA
2) Tighten up measures in terms of group gatherings.
3) Lockdown, 2 weeks minimum starting day after boxing day.
So Telegraph are supposedly reporting the three actual options
  1. Urging the public to limit social mixing indoors, without legal enforcement
  2. Mandating curbs on household mixing, the return of social distancing and forcing pubs and restaurants to close at 20:00 GMT
  3. A return to full lockdown
Are people not socially distancing already?

Bound to be another press conference today at 5 or 6pm.

As far as lockdowns go it's the most palatable as a lot things are still open (on a personal level the only thing I care about restrictions on, in the short term, is the gym, and it looks like that'll be open), but I really feel for the hospitality industry - no one is going to be queuing up to eat and drink outside in January,
Friend of mine who works in hospitality is on her third job since the pandemic started due to redundancies and companies going under

Also good luck convincing people to follow it for a whole month (which will inevitably be longer)

I deal with pub partnerships and they got a hell of a lot of support last tax year from the government. Thought they would make a loss and reduced the partners' tax on that basis, then had to speak to one distraught client to tell her and her partner that in fact they both needed to cough up a pretty tidy sum in January. This time round not so sure and not a peep out of Rishi on further Furlough support for the hospitality industry. December is what gets a lot of these pubs and restaurants through Jan to March financially.

Wife sent me this

Whitty: The NHS is at capacity, there is a major incident already in London, new restrictions need to be introduced now to prevent an overwhelming pressure on NHS and to keep the public safe..
Vallnace: Yes he's right, the numbers and the research presented clearly indicates that action needs to happen now...
BORIS: AHHHHH mmmm what shall we do...
Whitty: what Vallnace said
Vallance: what Whitty said..
Random tory twat: we can't do this the financial implications on my business and its only plebs bla bla bla
Other tory twat: so what are the viable options....
GO BACK TO THE TOP.... GROUNDHOG meeting

Local GP having a booster clinic December 23rd.
Don't know if I fancy it that close to christmas, most people I knew who have had it seemed to get the after affects the next couple days after.

not like i'm going out during the period either

Sore arm for half a day here, wife similar.

Mine was better than either of the first two - arm pain was gone when I woke up next day,
Was a bit more tired than usual for a day or two after the shot (had it on Thursday, had an early night Friday and a lazy day Saturday) but no other symptoms at all

That's why I say sod them and look after yourself and your close family and friends if they listen to you. All Bojo is doing is pushing back the choice onto the individuals now. Vaccination/Boosters are their only way to stop this, but not going prevent cases rising now.

Booster was the first one I haven't reacted to
