[COVID-19] General Discussion

Local GP having a booster clinic December 23rd.
Don't know if I fancy it that close to christmas, most people I knew who have had it seemed to get the after affects the next couple days after.

not like i'm going out during the period either
the flu shot got me more than the booster did; I wouldn't be too concerned with the side effects of boosters

Personally I think it's a no brainier to get the booster @TigsMan. Start the protection asap, as it still takes up to 2 weeks to be optimal per experts. Side effects - muscle ache around injection site (lasted a few days) and fatigue next day for me, for a Moderna booster after 2 AZ as my primary. Protect yourself and your family bigger concern than side effects IMO.

Ministers can't be arsed to turn up to morning shows this morning. Complete leadership vaccum. Rearranging plans for wife's birthday regardless (no way it doesn't get impacted now) just wish there was sensible guidance so you could plan properly.

The only plan is for peeps to get their boosters by this Govt. Businesses in limbo because ministers have just created this massive uncertainty. Young peeps are rightly concerned not to pass onto nanny and grandad at Xmas, and not test out how effective the vaccination on their immune system.

Peeps most likely stopped listening to this Government after the Xmas party fiasco. Listen to Whitty instead and limit unnecessary social contact: get your booster, mask up (FFP2 tight fitting) when indoors or congregate setting, avoid unventilated settings, meet up with friends and family outdoors if you can plus social distance. We'll get through this without this dithering Government and kowtowing to the Tory backbenchers. Feel most for the NHS hospital staff who are exhausted and totally fed up of another likely wave in January.

That's the thing, I don't want to catch it and pass it on to find out how severe it is. Whilst we are waiting for the data on severity, Omicron and Delta are doing battle for supremacy in the populations across the world. GOT style.

Yep, I'd rather find out by reading an article in the BMJ in April; not by being part of the experimental groups.

So Sunak has delved into cashbox at least so hopefully they'll be support for those who need it. Although many are calling for being able to plan as well as the support.

I checked my County Council's website to see if a couple of businesses that I'm involved in the running of would be eligible for support. It said:

"Cornwall Council is aware of the announcement made by the Chancellor a short while ago regarding additional support for businesses in the hospitality sector. We are currently awaiting details from the Government on how this will be administered."

Not quite as special as telling the NHS that they need to be giving a million injections a day on Sunday night TV, but it smacks of an announcement plucked out of thin air rather than something that's been planned for. Tough to do much planning when you're off in the Sunshine State trying to sell off the NHS I guess.

TBF, he's not trying to sell off the NHS.
Much like someone trying to sell 4 wheels, a radio, a car battery, an engine, a transmission, a bunch of seats and a jack - isn't trying to sell a car.

He wants to asset strip the NHS whilst being able deny that he's selling it - as per Tory policy for at least 20 years.

Why wouldn't you complain about the NHS being sold off?
Because he's a genuine Tory who actually believes in a lot of their bullcrap. Despite what people go on about Yellow-Tories and Red-Tories they forget what the real thing looks like.

I was being mostly provocative but tbh anything is better than what we've got now.

Regardless, he was there discussing new cancer treatments. At that level the US is doing pretty well and there's something to learn

That... doesn't appear to be evidence based. More "Do something... anything"
Quite honestly, 10 day was already on the short side (if the purpose was to reduce infections).

LFT's are still pretty poor at proving a negative (though multiple negatives still lends confidence - but I want 2 negatives for people with no reason to suspect infection).
Omicron gets things started quicker than previous variants, but I've not seen anything* to suggest that patients stop shedding virus much quicker.

* As ever, just because I haven't seen it, doesn't mean it isn't there, of course.

ETA: OK, buried in the article, that's just if you're asymptomatic AND fully vaccinated - a level of nuanced that will be missed by the 80%* who don't read past the headline / tweet.
Further nuance is that it's just England, and isn't until Parliament reconvenes after Christmas (so 2 weeks away) - which in turn means that it may not happen at all.

* figure pulled out of my backside; probably an under-estimate though

This si when I have a problem with reporting everyone will be saying its been reduced or thinking it has and the policy hasn't even been enacted yet.

Know of a couple of people who Chirstmas' have been bolloxed by infections who may misread this.

I started using the new LFTs yesterday (had a massive stack of the old ones from when they were giving them out in Tesco everytime I went, so had about 10 boxes in my cupboard)

So much more pleasant than the old ones, no more scraping the back of my skull twice a week
