Clerc, The Best Wing Around?

Only Shane William is comparable to him at the moment, in Europe I mean.
[/b]

Trust me, Clerc is in a league above Shane Williams mate. Like Ripper said, if you're going to use that as convincing evidence it's hardly going to sway a non-believer's vote.

What player in Europe would you compare to Clerc then? I don't see any other player raising their hand this season. Sackey maybe, or Heymans.

Absolutely no one. He's in a league of his own...

In Europe national teams, Clerc may be the best... but if you include the european clubs, there are better players.. eg. Delasau (Fiji)

Best winger (and player even) in Europe. I'll wait for the Six Nations to finish before I decide whether he's the best wing in the World, but he's in the top three, no doubt about that.

World rugby doesn't finish when the 6N's finish....

Thank you, Captain Obvious. I was just saying that if he plays at this standard for another 3 or 4 games, he'll be the best in the World. [/b][/quote]
...but is quite likely to be overtaken again when the other major rugby tournament (Tri-Nations...not very well known this one, evidently) is either underway or finished. You would be "Captain Wise" to weigh up how good he is after both tournaments are played out (Clerc may well still be the best winger after this time, however its always good to see how the rest of the guys go). I think that is what BLR aka Captain Obvious was getting at my friend.

Fair enough, I won't/can't argue with that. I still think Clerc can be the best winger in the World. He was solid against Rockococo (sp?) in the France-NZ game, but I won't dwell too much into that now. His form has certainly increased this season, but, like you said, we should wait until the SH boys have a go in July.

He is nowhere near habana or rockococo in my opinion

Agreed, its a shame we dont get to see more of Delasau. But we are talking about NH players from NH countries, for example Howlett plays up here now and was one of the best wings in the world. Thats why hes never been mentioned..i think..

Delasau is a joy to watch and a very spectacular player, but at the moment both Rougerie & Malzieu are better and more regular than him, everyone following the Top 14 would agree with that.

Agree - European Club teams, i'm sure Howlett would raise his hand as a contender too. Once he gets into the swing of things of course :p

Euro Countries, However, i think his (Clerc) current strike rate speaks for itself.

I did a bit of an experiment after the game on saturday, i put up a couple of Habana tries on my youtube account and one Clerc try.4 days in and the Clerc try has over 400 hundred views and Habanas tries both have between 150-200. Just shows the impact and recognition VC is finally getting.

I agree. Both Rougerie and Malzieu are better than Delasau at the moment.

I'm not sure what you're suggesting.
If it is what I think then I'll have give you a crash course on Research 101.

NOTE: I'm not gonna bash Clerc

Trying to compare a NH player and a SH player is a bit vain imo, this is not the same styleplay, the competitions are different too and the meating between teams of the two hemisphere are too rare, or not signifiant because of the experience makes in the squad. Just look how many times NZ destroyed an incomplete/experimental french side since a few years... and then at the world cup !

Anyway the only duel between Rokocoko and Clerc ended in a draw at the World Cup... (good defense from both players, 0 breaks, tries or whatsoever)

He is a great player, the only thing he lacks is the extreme physique that some players tend to have these days (Habana, Tuqiri). Then again, he has street smarts and more flair.

I dont really know either  , suppose it just shows you how many people have jumped on the Clerc bandwagon.

Well if Habana is only getting 50% less viewers, who hasn't been playing for several months, than Clerc who is being tipped as the best winger in the NH on recent form, then that's a rather bad outcome.
Then you also gotta consider how many more people watch the 6N AND how many more have access to internet in France than in South Africa.

Just a tip :)

Clerc is also physical. You obviously haven't seen a lot of him I think. Second try vs Ireland in RWC he just pushes off TWO players to score after catching the ball. He's also got a superb hand-off ( check his try against leicester in HCup.). and he keeps the momentum going after the contact . Best finisher and winger in NH (and from a NH country) right now.

Two whole players? wow.

Wake me up when he barge's through 3 South African tight fowards from 10m out ala Rocokoko.
