Boxing Thread

Looks like it's just kicking off now, perfect switch over time.

Know next to nothing about boxing - who is this de Mori guy?
Any good? Or just someone they've wheeled out for Haye to have an easy come back?

I've stuck a fiver on him anyway

Never liked Haye, so this has got me supporting the other guy more.

Haye is mates with The Hask.

Says it all, really... don't dislike him as such, just a bit of a ***, a well meaning ***... but a *** nonetheless.

Should of just given it to me.

Haye will beat Joshua ATM once he gets rid of the rust.

Joshua is has a huge ceiling but I think he would struggle ATM against Hayes size.

What? Haye is shorter, lighter (although he has come in at a career high, which is not good for a 34 year old fighter which has relied on explosiveness).

Don't get me wrong - Joshua I think could strughle with an experienced and athletic Haye, but in terms of size and power Joshua is 3'' taller ans with a much larger frame. Anyone who expected a different result than a Haye KO, really doesn't follow boxing.

For mind I still think Haye's style doesn't age well - and at 34 I think him coming in 12+ lbs heavier than his next highest is not a good sign. Of course he would always beat De Mori, but the real question is could he beat a tall powerful heavyweight. Against Valuev his punch input was slow and imo was lucky to win. Against Klitschko he was dominated. Can he beat a 6'6'' Klitscko/Joshua, 6'7'' Wilder, a 6'9'' Fury? I'm not sure. If he has a chance he must be quick as there are better prospects out there IMO.

Edit:
Btw I like David as a boxer in the devision. And he couldn't have done much more in this fight tbf. He was patient, didn't look to have the same footspeed, but hand speed, power and counter punching all looked class. Just for me no questions were answered in this fight other than he hasn't become a C. grade fighter like De Mori, over a 3 year absence. A win over top contenders like Povetkin, Ortiz, Joshua, Parker - or even the level down like Jennings, Hellenius, Stiverne or Takam, would be the next fight I'd like to see to gauge his relevance in the devision

Will you be watching martin vs glazkov and Wilder vs szpilka?

Picking Martin to upset the limited Glazkov. I don't think his lack of resume will be too much of a problem as Glazkov wont cope with his size and awkwardness.

Wilder will ko szpilka, Wilders just a level above him.

I honestly think Haye can win a ***le again and i would favour him to beat the relatively Green contenders like Parker and Joshua if they fight in 2016. I just don't see either wanting to risk at this stage. I'm thinking they will both try to find the easiest way to a ***le as possible. I hope they prove me wrong but i think he's just too high risk at this stage.

I will be watching, and I agree with all your predictionsof upcoming fights. I don't really rate Charles Martin (I think it's bizzare either of Martin/Glazkov are in a "world ***le fight" - if they were going to strip Fury I would have thought they would at least give it to boxers with more recognition l). But I think Martin is the harder puncher, more athletic of the two, and while Glazkov is a pretty well schooled boxer he doesn't really have the power to trouble Martin IMO.

Szpilka will lose yes. But for me I think it is shameful Wilder keeps talking about being a World Champion and yet fights Malina, Dauhapas and Szpilka in his first three defenses. None of which ratein my top 25 boxers in the devision. Szpilka maybe his third most accomplished opponent behind Stiverne and maybe Scott...tbh I hope Povetkin puts him down in the mandatory, as no matter what people think of the guy, no one in the devision barring maybe Klitschko, has a history of going for the hardest fights. Povetkin dodges no one - which is very refreshing.

Agree that I certainly would not pick Haye for either of Parker or Joshua at this stage - particularly as they can wait for Haye to decline (or retire through an inevitable injury). Haye V Joshua would do very big money in the UK mind you. I think Haye would beat either or Martin/Glazkov - is that is the path he goes down. I think Haye vs Povetkin (should he beat Wilder) would be an absolute cracker. But I'm just not convinced against him and tall fighters. Him vs Wilder would be interesting - as Wilder's defense is pretty suspect, he tends to lean back rather than role the shoulders - and rumors from Haye vs Wilder sparring us Wilder has a poor chin. Wouldn't fancy him vs Fury these days as while Fury doesn't have power, he can certainly keep his distance from a guy 6" shorter.

Well, we called it. Not sure anyone could predict that is how Martin would have won.

Thought Szpilka acquitted himself very well, shame he has 2 loses next to his name now but he still has a future and not just as a stepping stone or gate keeper. Wilder v Fury? Yeah wake me up when it's over.

I don't have the same faith in Szpilka. On the bright side he is still relatively young as a heavyweight (26), but can I ever see him winning a World ***le? Maybe he could pick up one of the alphabet ***les like Martin has - but I would be pretty shocked if he was ever considered one of the best in the division. That said, I agree he gave Wilder some trouble - I think his awkward Southpaw style really showed some of Wilder's biggest issues in defense. While Wilder is a good athlete as a boxer - he really doesn't look like boxing comes naturally to him in how he moves.

Wilder vs Fury must come after Fury vs Klitschko 2 and Wilder vs Povetkin - all far far from certainties that they will retain the ***les (both slight favorites I'd say). That said, Wilder vs Fury could be the first fight where the total number of rounds it goes will certainly be higher than their collective IQs. The prefight build up alone will make all who watch it a little bit dumber.

Not the best of fights from Parker IMO.

He should of been able to finish him off a bit ago.

Granted Bergman was in full blown survival mode.

Boxing is really heating up at the moment. You have Frampton vs Quigg soon, Canelo vs Khan, Joshua vs Martin for IBF ***le, Fury vs Klitschko v2 (although rumor is it may not happen), and a bunch of other interesting fights in the heavyweight division. Martin vs Joshua is the really interesting one for me.
