Think Exeter have a good chance here - Tigers are missing a LOT of players, and while their B team is not exactly shabby, Exeter did well in Wellford Rd last season, can see them pulling off an upset this time round...

I agree. They are a good unit Exeter and these 6+weeks are a great chance to get some early points in.

Lots of Rugby to watch the coming weeks!:D Where am I going to find all that time :p.

Also read earlier that Tigers are without their first, second and third choice tightheads - so that'll be a bonus for Chiefs (two at the WC one injured)

Leicester will probably be starting Grindal and Staunton.

That's a pretty big handicap.

They'd be wiser to start Twelvetrees at 10 - though I agree that it'll be Staunton

vBookie now added for this match!

I'm not so sure they would be, Twelvetrees isn't really a natural 10 and would probably be better covering 13. Although, y'know, that assumes the ball will reach him... which it won't. So maybe you're right.

I'd start Harrison and Ford. **** it. All in mofos.

Is this match being televised? I just thought: Tait is probably going to start at 13 - will be interesting to see if Tigers have got him over his poor form of the past few years

I wouldn't bet on it. My guess is one of Twelvetrees or Smith will play 13, and Tait will either be on the wing or covering for Murphy at full-back.

According to AP site, no. These games being televised

Sat 3rd Sep 11 London Irish v Harlequins ESPN 14:00
Sat 3rd Sep 11 Saracens v London Wasps ESPN 16:30
Sun 4th Sep 11 Northampton Saints v Gloucester Rugby Sky 15:30

Booo, they should just have one match from the double header - but it makes sense as the camera crew will be there etc.

I've never really liked Twelvetrees at 13, think he's wasted there - though I think this season will see Ford coming into the team more, so you may be right with:
10. Staunton
12. Allen
13. Twelvetrees
22. Ford

I think Hamilton will be Fullback over Tait, but he could well feature on the wing (even if he's not that fast since putting on about 12st since 2007)

Staunton is one of the most boring fly halves I've ever seen, always stands so deep

Mathew Tait played wing in all the warm up matches for Leicester

I was hoping Ireland would take Staunton to the World Cup so I could mock the Irish for perpetuity. But alas no.

Personally, I'd have Twelvetrees at 12 and Allen at 13. But Twelvetrees can certainly cut it out there.

Off the point a bit but I watched a film the other week called Napoleon Dynamite and the main character was the dead spit of Mr Twelvetrees.

Anyway, think Tigers will win, they have some more quality in the backs with MJ overlooking Allen and Tait but I agree with the comments regarding Staunton he is a poor mans Goode (the fat one)

For some reason I didn't even consider shifting Allen across
Makes more sense, and I'd agree

Psychic Duck: I agree - Staunton is pants. I remember "defending" him on here before (well, I said he wasn't THAT bad) and then he played the next match for Tigers and pretty much single handedly lost them the match

Don't think Johnson's overlooking Tait because:
a) Hasn't performed in an England shirt in a while
b) Hasn't performed in a club shirt in a while
c) Has only just gotten over a badly dislocated shoulder (was that bad that he might not've played again, but thankfully it was OK after surgery) and hasn't played in quite a while (up until the pre-seasons)

Yeah, but the 4th choice is Kieron Brookes. :p

Might be Grindal and Ford, as that's what it's been pre-season.

I rate Brookes, looked good in whichever matches it was he was in recently (England U20s? England Saxons? can't remember... :p )

Who will be backup tighthead on the bench? Will it have to be an academy player, or is there a loosehead that can cover?

Brookes played in the Saxons recently, preventing the Irish from poaching him.

I've just remember Leicester have Micky Young and don't have to play Grindal.

Teams now in the original post

Staunton not even in the 22! That's a strong stating XV from Tigers
