Aviva Premiership 16/17 - Round 10

Wow, I've just seen the North incident: The Saints medical staff need a good long look at themselves.
He was spark out, **** the HIA questions that players can bluff their way through, he was dead to the world and has a history of serious concussions. He should not have been allowed back onto that pitch.

Agreed. Crazy that players welfare is ignored if we did that here in Munster or colleagues at any other province we'd be sacked immediately. Plus my biggest gripe is why put a player back on when he hasn't his full wits about him so he hasn't got full potential

He won't make it past 25 as a player at this rate, which is a ****ing shame as it's largely at the behest of coaches that insist on keeping on the pitch regardless.

Anyone got a video re the north incident? Isn't this the 3rd or 4th time in the space of a year?

That is utter rubbish. Clearly out cold. Told to say that my his employers so they don't get into trouble?

I thought the medical team were neutral now. So they don't have any objective or motive.

He certainly looked out cold to me.

Yeah, he's sparked out before he's finished bouncing; that's not someone who's just worried about neck pain.

It's also one of those occassions where North is entirely responsible for the collision - he didn't need to be in the air, and he knew the Thompstone was there before he jumped.
IMO the laws should be that North gets the card for that one - possibly Thompson as well for aggravating it with the grab, rather than trying to just roll with the hit.

Not that I've seen - certainly not those who come onto the pitch whearing their club's kit.

Cipriani is out of the Wasps game with calf strain. Rob Miller moves to 10, and Piers O'Conor starts his first ever AP game (I believe) at 15. Conor Eastgate comes onto the bench.

He's claiming he lay still in case he had a neck injury but he's very obviously unconscious

He's his own worst enemy - how the hell did he make no attempt to break his fall?

The yellow looks pretty generous too imho.

We were lucky you couldn't work out how to get over the line in the first half.
Awful first half, pretty good second with Twelvetrees making the difference in the back line.

Keeping everything crossed that Heinz isn't expected to be first choice next year (as it pretty much everyone I speak to round these parts).

I know that as things stand, them's the rules, but it seems crazy to me that you can jump knees first towards an opponent's face and see him get yellow carded for it!

I'm not claiming to have all the answers, my best suggesting would be to look at how other sports (Aussie Rules and Gaelic Football) deal with these situations to see what can be learned. If it was beyond the wit of man to have a fair, safe contest, surely the sports I mention would have long since ceased to exist.

I completely agree with you.

But, whether it was deliberate or instinct (instinct I suspect), he moved across and made damn sure North wasn't gonna land on his feet.
Even if North had tried to break his fall with something other than his face (still don't get why he didn't), it still looks pretty bad to me.

I'm pretty certain Northampton have seriously messed up here and will find themselves in trouble over this. However they are almost certainly not the only rugby team to do have done something like this, they are the ones to get caught - so although they should be punished, I hope people don't go overboard on vilifying them.
