Ashes Cricket 2009

LOVED the tutorial and "I THINK" I am ready to play someone online lol. What mode do I do guys for a shortish game?

Hmmm first online match and some bloke let me bat first...

I got 2 runs from no balls, then 6 of my guys out, then had a couple of dodgey runs and finished 5/10.

Went onto bowling then and nearly got him for a golden duck, then he hit a four and also on my next bowl he hit a four. ALL OVER!!!

Need practice I think... :p

***EDIT*** I do really, really like it tho

Man I suck at this game. Still think it's awesome though.

Last online game got bowled out for 22 runs in a ten over game, absolutely crap display of batting (must have had one too many) thought it was all over in 1 over....but noOOOoooo.

Came in to bowl, first ball...boundary..here we go, next few balls changed things up and he played and missed a few.

2nd over changed it up again, found a weakness and bowled him out 4 times in the over.

Next over, dot ball then boundary 2nd ball but thinking I was still in it I went back to my tactic and got 2 more out from good length deliveries.

Third over went back to my best bowler and stuck to my plan of attack, he had no idea and I got two more clean bowleds and two catches to finish him off for 16 runs all out.

Awesome comeback but was probably a noob like me. :( but I don't care I still got a rush from it.

Even though I still stink at batting I'm still enjoying this game immensely.

Any good online stories from the rest of you guys?.

I'm doing OKish now but am still pretty bad. I was getting caned by one guy so I decided to change my bowling tactics and violently aimed my bowling cursor all over the shop randomly and back onto wicket for delivery and this seemed to really **** the bloke off cos I took a good few wickets (4 or 5) in a couple of minutes. Not sure if thats sportsmanly tho :p but it definitely worked.

Whats yer PSN name Rad? Mine is Ruff4548 is you're up for a game sometime.

i love the game but have only had 15 matches register because i have had about 25 people quit on me (at one stage it was 15 in a row, for 2 hours i couldnt finish a game)
i hate soprts games that dont punish quitters, and this is a sport where quitting is terrorism
have had some tense moments defending 122, and he was 9/110, and i got his last wicket.
was in another match on the ropes at 4/4, then came back recovered the innings with 6/176
i only play 20/20 matches - check the stats :p :bravo:

by the way brilliant game its actually mind blowing how good online cricket is with 95% no lag matches - seriously this goes above its weight.

For cricket fans, it doesnt get any better as far as sports video gaming is.

Played an absolutely disaster of a game against AK47 tonight. He absolutely thumped me and nothing would've changed that. The guy has the right strategies nearly all the time and would be a tough opponent for pretty much anyone.

In my own defence there were a few factors that would've changed it from an ass kicking to a merely comofrtable victory. First of all I should know not to play a game when I am about to watch a movie with friends, the sense of "lets get this over with" from my mates was palpable and I wasn't able to fully concentrate. Having dinner served up to me on a table during the end of AK's innings and it starting to gradually go cold didn't help either (I kept dipping my fork in and having mouthfuls throughout the rest of the game.

Also England being rated 4 and a half stars in the game is a bit of a joke, because Flintoff is not capable of sending anything down like the pace of Mitchell Johnson and Brett Lee who are also left and right armers, which adds further difficulty. Anyone playing AK needs to take Australia too as frankly no other team is as good.

All that said. If we'd both had Australia, it's impossible to imagine a different result, but a different margin was a certainty. I'm sure I would've perhaps taken 20 runs off AK's score and maybe added that to mine. Even then he still would've kicked my butt.

He's got some clever strategies and techniques which I'm going to be working on very hard. The aforementioned fast bowlers are able to move the bowling reticule very rapidly in the last full second before you hit the ball and that can make it very hard to know if your on the back foot or the front. Once I master that (if any other bowlers can do it that well), I'm sure to be a better threat. Also, when the field is changed every two balls it can make it very hard to adjust and decide on a shot , something I need to be able to adapt to.

In short playing AK is like playing the real Australia. You know you'd better duck, because the kitchen sink is coming at you and his strategic nature is second to none.

I want to play him again in about 34 days or a week when I'm where I'll need to be at, but I have a horrible feeling that it may be my only chance to play him online due to his buying the 360 version. Still if thats the case, I'll always remember what a playing a tough, competitive console cricketer is really like.

Planetcricket.net review is up

Just been reading this thread and you guys are real positive about the game. Wish Xbox players could play PC now so I could take AK47 to the cleaners. Last online game I played I scored 154/1 off 10...

lol - that bouncer was epic, right on the ear drums! Was a good match, but a short one unfortunatly, because we had no time.
10 overs is too short to play proper cricket, i thought i was in strife hitting under 10rpo, and got lucky with watson n symonds coming in at 6/7, whom belted me home.
there are alot of little strategies in this game which make it awesome, if something isnt working, there are always another angle to think about, relative to how the batsmen/bowler is playing.
you took your catches CA, and i had to work hard at where the gaps were - i think 20/20 is the best, because the 10 over match can be over in 2-3 overs, which kind of ruins the suspense and uncertainty of the game........hopefully next time, there is more time for 20/20, where the hard thinking and tactics weigh heavily.

yeah i read that review and its correct, but ashes is not madden or fifa, so going on a technical aspect can be harsh.
i havent played the ai yet, but as far as multiplayer online goes, its atleast a 9/10

Is it just me, or is it impossible to bowl people out on this game? ive enjoyed it so far, but this, the excessive amount of runouts and the fact that test matches last about 2 days really stops the game being awesome.

Edit: Actually i dont think ive got anyone out LBW either yet.

You haven't played the AI?
Like I said lengths are kind of a killer even in human vs human cos it rewards pitched up rather than good length.

In Ashes 2009 Pitched up is a good length â€" the yellow bowling riticule is what u look for, and in Ashes 2009, it does appear at the half volley mark.

But bowling it in these areas does not mean u can be smacked around the park, from half volleys, so not all is lost

The good length in Ashes 2009 is NOT smashable

Sure they got the length wrong, but this is countered by its fake bounce, so what looks like a half volley is actually a good length hitt the top of off, and cant be smacked

Some people are making it out as though the good length in ahses 2009, is pitched up, thus therefore can be smacked on the front foot â€" but that’s not the case, as I bowl most my online opponents for less than 50, because they play attacking strokes at these lengths

It is an oversight, but its far from ruining/killing the experience â€" its like saying the ball floats too much in fifa……its not pleasing, but the rest of the goodness makes up for a quality ***le

Although I have a very one sided view on the game, as I haven’t touched the AI which is essentially what a lot of gamers look for â€" I’ll be touching this on X360

It would be silly for me to praise this game like I have, without seeing what the AI can do, so don’t take my comments as bible and rush out n buy it â€" especially if you don’t play much online

But if you only play online (like some of my friends have never hit campaign/franchise in menus), there is no doubt, it’s the only online you will be playing for a while, and forever if ur a cricket nutter

I'm still trying to 'get' the AI. I seem to be pretty handy batting at any level, then have bowling issues as I move up higher levels, to the point where I am getting smacked around far too much at levels when my batting is being kept to more realistic scores.

That said, I think this says more about my bowling! Although contrary to seemingly common criticism, I have a good mixture of outs - I have clean bowled a fair few, one or two LBW and plenty of catches and run outs (possibly too many of the latter). The AI does seem to fall for bowling strategies, and when it is bowling, does adapt the field to where the runs are coming.

There are a few little AI issues (run outs being the number one), but hoping these can be patched - all around I still believe this is a very solid effort and I think it is going to reward the hours which I will undoubtedly be putting in - strikes me as having a lot of depth.

right picked this game up for $74AU a couple of days ago and I am looking at getting home in 2 weeks time to have a good game aganst some of you fellas :)

should be a blast :D

No doubt at all this game will be the best for online between me and you Woosaah. We haven't had much luck with anything else as yet. :)

I'm not a cricket fan but I do enjoy most sports games. Am really liking this game at the moment and have played several games online so far only winning one (picking up the "Bowl the opponent out in 10 overs or less" trophy).

On single player on Normal difficulty, I'm still on the first test in Cardiff (thankfully the SAVE option is handy) and am on second innings at mo with both my opening batters alive at 85/0. Australia are leading by 312 runs so a bit of work to do once I start stupidly swinging the bat around. To get this far has taken me all weekend.

Australia 1st innings took 101 overs and they scored 389, I scored 207 in 22.4 overs lol. On second innings I bowled much better and Australia scored 210 in 61 overs. Now I just gotta get a good innings with my current guys. Am finding it hard to hit boundaries now and just making singles. The AI seem to have me sussed where I hit and always stop me short of a four (this is prolly cos I'm crap mind)

One thing I have to ask though is how the **** do you manage to play an Ashes disciplined match online? Is there an online Save feature? I only play Twenty20 online and that can take more time than I'd like but can't see how an Ashes could be played without a Save feature.
