So mid terms today. All 435 seats in the House to be voted and a third of the Senate. Most interesting mid terms in a long time.

@theMole what's the word where you are on how things are on the ground?

I think its not going to go as great for democrats as they hoped for,

The Senate will lead to an increased Republican majority the wrong seats are up for grabs for the democrats.

House I don't if control will change but the republicans are not going to enjoy the majority they once did and if they found 51 senators hard to keep in line just wait for ~200 congressmen.

There seems to be a theme in that Republicans can get massive mid term swings but Democrats just aren't able to do it to the same degree. If the parties were reversed now, I think it would be clear cut that the Dems would be annihilated (I mean look what happened to Obama, a president with nothing actually that bad). Will be interesting to see but I think too many Dems are still too apathetic and haven't yet worked out that they keep getting ****** over because they can't make the effort to spend a few minutes out of their day to determine the future of the country.

The problem is leftist puritanicalism, its aproblem in this country to.
Lefties have a streak in which if candidate isn't as good as they want they simple won't bother.
Two examples,
Many Democrats refusing to vote for Clinton due to Sanders not getting the nomination. Sin: Not being as left as Sanders despite being against Trump.
The Lib Dems getting wiped out by Tory candidates in areas Labour had no hope of winning. Sin: Wanting to create a stable goverment in the wake of massive global economic meltdown. Post-2015 showed how much they were actually holding them back.
You see the same attitude about candidates in the mid-terms. The Right doesn't care they are way more pragmatic about being in power means you must comprimise on your ideals to get some of what you want. Case in point Trump I'm sure he disgusts a lot of the Republican party but they'd rather have him doing what they want than Clinton not.
Kavanaugh was another example, Republicans only cared about Roe V Wade everything else can be looked over to get that victory.
I wish the left would be that pragmatic at times. But instead they'd rather bang on about Red Tories.
Its nothing new half the jokes in Life of Brian are about infighting between leftist factions rather focusing on the real enemy the Romans.

The left falls in love
The right falls in line

my district is leaning towards a republican in the house but only slightly

was pouring earlier so that might have deterred those without cars from voting which hurts dems

i'm really just trying not to worry about it too much and hopefully there is good news when i wake up tomorrow

Republicans pick up Senate seats in Indiana, North Dakota, Montana, and Missouri while holding Nevada and Arizona. Democrats hold Florida. +4 Senate seats for the Republicans.

Republicans hold the house by 0-5 seats while losing the overall raw vote.

In high profile races, Cruz beat Beto by 10 points for Texas Senate. Kemp does the same to Abrams for Georgia governor. Gillum may just pull out Florida governor. He and Abrams are the worst of the high profile Democrat candidates this time around. Abrams has been comically underemployed her whole life despite Ivy League degrees and currently has $200k in credit card debt. That's your modern Democratic Party star.

Who are these people voting for Ted Cruz?
Even his own party hates him.

At least the House went Democrat and there's at least one check on Trump. The Senate remaining in Republican control was not a surprise.

I would say party over policy is BS, but I will never vote Tory as long as I live so that'd be hypocritical :p

I see Nevada just elected a dead guy...

Red, dead, and redeemed

Democracy is wild,
Dems get 9m more votes yet republicans get 3 more seats

Its a problem of the original constitution I don't think anyone thought states would have vastly different populations. Same issue occurs over the electoral college.

Problem is when they are winning both parties benefit so they are unwilling to solve the issue. We have the same issue here.....Like or not UKIP should have some representation in parliament and the two largest parties should never really have overall control.

Astonishing really just how many absolutely awful republicans kept their seats. Also the difference being seen been democrat voting numbers and seats could become a serious issue for American democracy. The last 2 republican presidents both lost the popular vote.

In better news, Florida have decided to allow something like 40% of their black population to vote in 2020.
Well, I say that, but what they have decided is that ex-convicts to have served their time are allowed to vote again. Given America's basing of their legal system on something as complicated as baseball (3 strikes and goes out) meaning that being caught smoking a joint whilst black, or having your brake light conveniently smashed by a racist cop means jail time, that just so happened to disenfrachise all those nasty people with the wrong skin colour.
Nothing to do with voter suppression, honest.

It's okay though, I'm sure they'll find another way to deny them the right, probably require a form of ID that they just can't get hold of (AKA the usual form of suppressing the vote for poorer, darker and younger people in the states)

Maybe one day the mid-west will consider allowing native Americans to have a vote (postal addresses are necessary, and non-existent on reservations); or possibly even people who can't afford a day off work, or to run a car (but again, those pesky poor people have this habit of voting in favour of their own interests, which can never be allowed)

Just realised now when Trump blames democrats for not getting anything done he'll be telling the truth!

If Fox news is on the right (with their conservative, republican focused news) and CNN is on the left with their democrat, liberal focused news, who in America caters for the centrists? Is there such a thing such as a centrist in America?
