The Andrew Neill Tim Farron interview is hilarious. They were just talking over each other for ages.

Interviewers love asking questions and then interrupting and talking over the interviewee. Painful stuff
Only saw the second half. Don't think Neil could deal with someone answering questions for a change and wanted to move on to the next thing.

Still time for a brew and bake off ;)

What makes you think the working class are socialist?
If the working class was socialist the Conservatives would never stand a chance of getting in because the working class are the biggest group of voters.
I didn't say the working class are socialist. I'm saying that labour are trying to appeal to the working class, the poor and the young by abolishing university tuition fees and raising taxes on the rich.

I have reason to believe that was always the fundamental position of the labour party, to appeal to the 'labour' market.
Blair moved them away from that position and the policies and ideology of the Labor party began to merge toward the Conservatives.
Under Corbyn the Labour party has moved back toward it's original alignment, left of center.
Labour was always meant to be more compassionate and likely to listen to the needs of 'the people', than the Conservatives who have always been a party more for business, and for the wealthier sector of society.

I don't think Cleggmania was thing because he was dullard. He's actually quite a skilled debater.

He was completely outmanoeuvred by the Conservatives when it was obvious to most folk that the Lib-Dem's were going to be shafted as the coalition fell apart prior to the next election.
He fell straight into their trap and the Lib-Dem's were slaughtered at the election that saw the Conservatives come to power under Cameron, alone.

Yeah I quite liked Clegg. To be honest I liked the coalition Government. There seemed to be a reasonable balance and I think Clegg and Cameron seemed to work.

Just a shame none of the major party leaders look like Prime Ministers. Its almost like most politicians are just hiding not willing to stick their necks out while Brexit is going on.

Some of the sound bites being used are horrendous. May's latest one is that she 'believes in Britain'. Not sure how that makes her stand out from the rest unless it's a desperate attempt to sweep up some floating UKIP voters.

I was in discussion with fellow Lib Dems the other day about needing a Macron or a Trudeau to emerge in the party (unsurprisingly considering they share our ideals). Clegg was kind of proto-liberal in that ilk. But yeah none of the current leaders particularly inspire me I've lost what little confidence I had in May and somehow have gained some for Corbyn (who I think needs a coalition to reign him in but I believe in coalitions instead of outright majorities anyway). Farron he's alright but when your following in footsteps of Ashdown, Kennedy and Clegg and your basically elected leader because there is no other choice its pretty bad. I wish Caroline Lucas was a Liberal instead of a Green (were pretty close on policies just that whole Green thing we disagree on). Nuttall is a joke to anyone who isn't a UKIP supporter and the nationalist well I quite like Wood but against they ahve the whole nationalist thing that makes me diametrically opposed to them.

But yeah I imagine any 'leaders in waiting' want this whole Brexit thing to finish before going anywhere near it.

I quite like Ruth Davison and would certainly consider voting Tory if she was running the show. May just looks like a bumbling wreck now. Shes trying to be an Iron Lady but coming up very short. Maggie always ensured she went into an interview etc fully armed and fully read and was great at turning difficult questions round. May just avoids answering anything.

Surely everybody that works is working class, then you have those on benefits who can be split into 3 -: Those that are really looking for work, the disabled that can't work and finally the lazy scroungers who think the world owes them a living.

Teresa has been hiding a big white lie in the Conservatives manifesto.

Apparently the election pledge to keep migration under a 100,000 people a year, (which she never got close to as Home Secretary) is now not going to be coming into action until 2022, which would be election year if the Tories were to go full term?
Teresa was not available for comment.
David Davis bumbled about and said that the figures in the manifesto were... "... just a guideline."

So we have no idea how high migration will be under a Tory govt if they get elected.
There's some UKIP voters swinging back to UKIP right there.

Apparenty if she wins she's going to sack Box Office Phil and replace him with Amber Rudd. Senior Tories are said to be unimpressed with the way she's fought this election. It's looking precarious for May. I'm not convinced she'll see out a full term if she wins.

Dear lord...

And just how useful is terminology which cant differentiate between:

A) People who work in lower paid, often more manual work who have to work as much as they can with flat career prospects and low existential security...
and...
B) People who tend to do more 'intellectual labour', who can expect relatively strong and linear salary progressions through their life, choose how much they work and probably retire earlier.

I guess since everyone who works is a person - well, apart from dogs - we should forget these categories altogether and describe everyone as just 'people', right!?

Just saw the leaders answering questions.

May was completely ineffectual even with the pathetically easy questions she was getting. Corbyn looked much more statesmanlike although with wild eyes maniacs having wet dreams of nuclear Armageddon produced an awkward few minutes, more due to their obvious desire to hear Corbyn say he would obliterate millions of people than Corbyn's refusal to say so. Seriously don't these lunatics understand, the whole point of nuclear weapons is that you never use them. If you are in a situation where you have to use them, you are already dead, you are simply deciding if you want to take the other guy with you.

More than once people have been put in the situation where everything has said they should press the button and every time, people have backed down from it, every time it has been the correct decision. I find it sickening listening to these people desperately dribbling to hear how their leader will massacre millions in retaliation, or even in first strike as one wanted to hear. Anyone who can safely say they would press the button is a liar or a maniac.

Mssr Macron loves WUMming Trump:
Walks towards him until Trump spreads his arms for a hug, blanks him, greet Merkel, and a few others, before finally shaking hands with Trump, and playing silly buggers with the handshake too.
The Don doesn't look terribly happy.

He is not any better than Trump then. What a group of useless *****.

Both leaders weaknesses were ruthlessly exposed by the audience I thought. May on the NHS and public services Corbyn on Nuclear weapons.

On the Nuclear question, I think the audience member who said she did understand why killing millions is missing the point. Of course no one one would ever want to use it and Corbyn is absolutely right in that respect. It is called a "deterrant" for a reason. If UK's enemies know there is absolutely no circumstance that Corbyn as PM would ever "push the button" then any bargaining position the U.K would be in in such a situation would be immediately weakened him trying to negotiate in the first place. That is the point, not the ultimate terrible consequence of using it. It is brinkmanship at the end of the day, and UK need to know we have a PM who is willing as an absolute last resort to be seen to use it if the limited circumstance called for it. I hope that that circumstance never comes to pass.

I respect Corbyn's stance on Nuclear weapons and don't expect a Vice President of CND and life long campaigner to U turn on it. In fact I would respect him even less if he were suddenly to change his stance on this issue he clearly feels strongly about. He is perfect as an activist and protestor. He is just is not fit for purpose as a PM imo.
