A Political Thread pt. 2

I don't understand this article, is it designed to whip up fear about an incoming trade war, despite there having been a trade war for years, and despite Carney and Trump both saying positive stuff about each other after their first call, AND despite Carney having an election campaign to run?

Nonsense article lol

I found this interesting. However, I don't think countries like Britain could go back to some kind of government controlled protectionism. We've lost too much of our manufacturing industry to ever be completely self sufficient again and modern technology requires too many resources that the country just doesn't have. Possibly larger countries such as America, Russia or China can go it alone, but would still be a challenge.

Instead, I feel Trump is going to accelerate the change we've already been seeing over the past decade or so. Larger trading blocs which could then focus the protectionism on only buying from those within the bloc. We've already got the EU, there's the Asian one that Britain wants to/did join? If this attitude becomes the norm then you could see tighter rules about who groups can trade with.

If this did happen, I feel it would be especially bad for Britain and would show just how big a mistake Brexit was. Instead of being able to trade with anyone (which hasn't worked anyway), we'd be on the outside of all these big blocs. Signing up to the Asian one was always ridiculous and if the blocs tighten their rules, who is really going to want to send their goods halfway across the world. We gave up our seat at the table with the EU (a very cushy seat we would never get back) and we will probably regret it more over the next few years/decades.

The other country I feel who could lose out here is Canada. Again, if blocs start to be more protectionist, then Canada is pretty isolated above the US and shipping to countries further away again becomes more expensive than countries within the bloc who can trade quicker and easier together.

He care about his perception though (of his followers)
I feel like he only would if he can find a way to serve a third term and if he can find a way to do that then I really do think American democracy will be at it's end.

Inequality will increase massively in America no doubt and even worse than it already is. As long as his family and the rich get richer he won't give a ****. He's already got his 77m base which in the words of the Thatcher "aren't for turning" supporting his America First doctrine.

I think Trump will continue insinuating he wants a 3rd term but in reality it's about continuing his America first legacy. That's why Vance and others will jostle for his approval post 2nd term to takeover.

It will be interesting to see if the US sends any aid to Myanmar and Thailand in the wake of yesterday's earthquake.

Interestingly, although I understand Trump must be popular in the USA, winning the presidency etc, I wasn't ready for what extent that was.

I just returned from New York, the merch was everywhere. Queues for Trump tower, locals praising him constantly, it was absolutely shocking!

Someone even gave me a MAGA hat. I saw plenty of people wearing them, and even the tourist hot spot sales people were referencing him and using his phrase to sell.

I don't hate the guy to the extent a lot of people do in Europe, losing all emotional regulation etc, but even I felt a little shocked. I'm not saying New York is Trump town, but I didn't expect that level of love.

What has that got to do with an earthquake?

What you on?

You are coming with really strange and ridiculous statements that should really be ignored, more from ignorance than anything else.

The irony of talking ignorance and this joke going over your head is so delicious I want to wine and dine it!

You get the same in Pyongyang
