A Political Thread pt. 2

I'm in support of the 2nd amendment. While you will never stop every shooter, a major issue right now is people get flagged and are supposed to have their guns temporarily possessed by authorities but the police agencies don't communicate with each other.

That's why the whole "pass more laws" crowd keeps losing: because the current laws are not being enforced. Enforce the laws on the books and then we can talk about further restrictions.
I'm not going to debate you on issues because I feel like we won't find common ground.

However, the word I have made bold highlights everything that's wrong with politics in many democracies around the world. Democracy should not be a competition. Yes there is winning and losing to an extent, but the process should be on electing representatives who then engage in constructive debate to make the country better for the people based on how they voted. You say the 'pass more laws' crowd keep losing, but in reality the debate often just gets shutdown and people's views ignored. I'm sure you are right that many gun laws are enforced and that enforcing them properly would be a step forward. On the other hand, that doesn't mean the laws are perfect and that changing the laws wouldn't lead to a better system. Many democracies, but especially America have become so partisan that it's tribal and the only mentality is to beat the other side. You then just get into a yo-yo situation of the Democrats spending 4 years undoing Republican acts and then 4 years of the Republicans undoing Democrat acts.

Honestly, please adjust you viewpoint because if all you see are winners and losers then you've all lost.

America does need less gun laws. Reword the 2nd amendment and then have a comprehensive bill banning them except in corner cases.

I'm sure the UK has less gun laws than USA because the law is comprehensive in the first place.

UK gun laws are pretty straightforward and easy to follow. Applying for a SGC is similar to applying for a passport but with a medical and criminal check. Takes about 16 weeks.

But honest. Noone forced them to buy and cobsume illegal drugs

I have also had the opinion the war on drugs was a.rse about face.

Go after the users, bang them up or give them 90 days sweeping the streets even. Not at their convenience but immediately in sequence.

Make them see they can lose their living. Users take no responsibility for their actions, time to make them pay.

Kill the market, then the cartels have no demand. Try to catch the makers and dealers just means a gap opens and someone will always fill it if there's a market.

There's never going to be a shortage of underprivileged, desperate kids with no support systems to push junk to.

It's a choice to take drugs yes but generally one taken under duress in the early years of someone's life.

Although the Democrats are a mess they should be commended for how they accepted the election defeat/will of the people and handled the transition of power in a dignified and orderly way (including inviting President elect Trump to the Whitehouse before the inauguration - something that he himself refused to do with Biden four years earlier). No screaming, shouting, posting wild conspiracy theories on X or throwing toys out of the pram.

Turtle eyes has so little grace and class that he slags off Biden (an elderly man with obvious cognitive decline) on an almost daily basis calling him stupid and the worst President in history. What is even worse is that many Americans seemingly accept and tolerate this lack of class and respect shown towards former Presidents and how in general he has dragged politics into the gutter.

Not forgetting how he dragged his feet and impeded Biden's transition team in 2020

Can't be said enough - representative politics should be collaborative, not confrontational. Everyone should be working towards the same basic aim of making their country wealthier, healthier, safer and happier; just with different ideas of how to get there.
If someone has a good idea, then it's a good idea, whichever side of a dividing line they sit on.

This all comes down to our adversarial versus inquisitorial legal systems, which we have in UK/US versus Europe which isn't helped at all by our electoral systems of winner takes all.

Power cocaine and cannabis use is higher by some degree. With powder considerably higher in price than harder class A drugs. Yet more socially acceptable as a middle class party drug.

It always amazes me when people moan about dirty smackheads yet have no issue snorting a hundred quids worth of charlie at the weekend. If they actually thought about what it's cut with they might think twice

Weekend? Also Wednesdays in the HoC toilets before PMQs.

I'd love to know the effect on society if alcohol was banned and cannabis (non rollable) and cocaine legalised. Pretty sure I read somewhere that the WHO updated their guidance on alcohol to say that there is no safe amount to consume and that it increases the chances of cancerous cells developing.

I remember the Euros football tournament in Holland/Belgium when hooliganism levels went down because many fans were stoned in coffee shops.

Or in the late 80s/early 90s when football hooliganism dropped off a cliff because everyone was popping Es instead of drinking Stella

Taking lead out the atmosphere helped a lot along those routes as well. There's corelation between violent crime and the banning lead in petrol cars.

5.5 billion lost it'll be good if someone keeps a running tally. Of course it's hard to tell the direct impact to the USA alone as I don't know who the subcontractors for the F-35 are. On top of that global companies use multiple sites for development and production.

It's not been a great week for turtle eyes.

He gave Hamas an ultimatum "Release all remaining hostages OR ELSE". Well over a week has passed and we're yet to see what 'OR ELSE' looks like.

Putin also made a fool of him yesterday by flying in his second hand car salesman mate from Belarus and making their meeting the main event while Trump's envoy was made to look like a support act. Kept him waiting for hours and still hasn't agreed to a ceasefire.

No country is going to want to trade with America while he's constantly flip flopping and threatening tariffs. The art of the deal.
