Thinking about this today has just made me feel sick to the stomach. How can a convicted criminal who tried to stage a coup to overturn a democratic election purely for his own self interest be even allowed to run again, never mind win?. The majority of Americans proved yet again what a totally thick, insular and morally bankrupt nation they are. I hope the absolute scumbags that voted for Trump rot in hell. The US now has absolutely no right to lecture any other country about who should or shouldn't be their political leadership.

So already the indication is Trump is going to start a trade war. He'll probably win too be he cares less about ordinary American citizens suffering and in a game of chicken the likes of the EU will blink first.

I'm not so sure about that. The EU is pretty shrewd and unwavering when it comes to trade and also very versatile.

It's probably the one thing within his MO that might be a mistake with the amadáns who vote for him. Everything else is long term pain for short term gain so he can blame the next guy for things going badly.

He'll try to blame the EU / anyone else in the event of a trade war that he starts but it won't resonate with his voters because they don't know what the EU is.

America has enjoyed a lot of support from Europe and the UK with it's anti China and Taiwan agenda. It's huge dependency on Taiwan to produce chips looks like a massive strategic blunder. Let's be honest, America wouldn't tolerate an island off it's coast being such a key military or strategic partner to China or Russia. Cuba is still paying for it today.

Europe needs to get it's **** together militarily so we can tell the likes of Trump to f off when they start **** like this.

Absolutely not - we all need to be tough on China. No matter how much you don't like Trump's America, China is the most significant threat to long term European security, beyond even Russia imo.

What are their long term strategic goals meant to be re. Europe? Besides reunification with Taiwan, I always thought Xi's aims were more economic than military. China have a lot of clout with Russia and have told Putin to dial down the nuclear war talk several times. Their arsenal of nuclear weapons is relatively small given their population.

I know they have human rights issues which they rightly get criticised for and have been caught hacking into systems but we have hackers and spies in the west too.

Democrat blame game well under way. George Clooney taking a bit of a kicking.
How's it Clooney's fault? Blame the celebrity activist rather than career politicians.

UK question how long before Starmer ditches Lammy? I like Lammy and what he's said in the past is 100% right but we can't escape Lammy is genuinely a good friend of Obama's.
I guess if Lammy convonced Trump he's not friends with Obama because Trump is a better friend Lammy will get further because Trump would be up for playground **** like that.

Banedoch was useless at PMQs yesterday.

Agreed.

The argument being that his article was instrumental in building the momentum to get shot of Biden (hard to see he'd have won this time round either).

Tenuous, but it's doing the rounds.

What I found ridiculous is how people act like Trump is some shrewd operator pitching up on the feeling of the populace as a whole and cleverly manipulating then rather than an impulsive lunatic who acts without thinking, has no filter and, for god knows what reason, people have decided they want.

This is why he was fairly ineffective on his first go too, he was firing anyone he could at every juncture. He has a surrounded himself with yes men and women now and the Republicans are a MAGA party now. The effects of this election will be seen throughout the span of most of our lifetimes.

Fully expecting to live most of the rest of my life in an extremely and increasingly volatile world in terms of the economy, envrionment and geopolitics. All because a legitimately mental electorate decided to feed a narcissists ego.

Harris was the hail mary pass when it was clear Biden was going to lose and everyone could see it based on his debate performance.

He was dead in the water when Trump said "I'm entirely sure I understand what he said and I'm not sure he does either". I remember seeing that clip because what was striking to me was actually there was an air of concern to Trump's voice, I hate the fucker but just that delivery meant you could see we were putting up a frail old man as a punching bag and even the biggest bully somehow felt bad doing it.
