A Political Thread pt. 2

1000% this I feel

Trump put across a plan for the right something they could get behind (no matter how disgusting it is)
All dems did was try and shame people into not voting for trump

There was a lot of positivity during the campaign, especially at the start.

To be honest, people just didn't care about Jan 6 and that their chosen candidate instigated an insurrection. I felt the dems didn't bang on this drum enough but, honestly, I don't think it would've made any difference.

Trump ran on pretty negative, vile polices but that resonated with people, let be honest.

So as a continent we are no longer alined with the worlds biggest manufacture, the worlds biggest gas and oil supplier and possibly the world's biggest economy and military......

I find it difficult to pinpoint anything that the Kamala campaign did that was even an attempt to be a point of difference.

Springsteen seemed to be her trump card, no pun intended, and that's been done before and better by Obama. It was a pretty stale campaign.

I also won't deny that racism comes into it to a degree but Kamala coming across as not very personable and somewhat jarring was just as big, if not a bigger factor into her not getting voters out of their homes in my opinion.

Macron has been saying Europe needs to become more independent economically and on a security front ever since he got into office and has been shot down at every juncture bith nationally and at union level.

The EU will react to this by keeping the status quo and attempting not to make moves that will galvanise the far right across the continent. We should be doing the opposite because we're about to face election tampering on a scale that hasn't been seen for awhile. The far right have their tails up.

There was a lot of tampering from the US in our recent local elections, we have a GE coming up before Christmas and I can see it getting very dirty.

Yeah, but you should be able to put a chimpanzee with learning difficulties against Trump and it should win. What you going to do?

Democrats should be concerned that trump took some of the developed states rather than cleaning up those left behind. Probably would have taken Minnesota if it weren't for Walz.

Biden's handing of Palestine must have kept some of the young champagne socialists home.

Friends in Massachusetts are saying they don't know a single queers or trans person who isn't scared shitless.

Absolutely blaming the dems for 1. not learning the right lessons and 2. picking a terrible candidate that they didn't even want until they had no other choice.

Democracy will be fine (as much as you can call the current shitshow fine), and there will be another election in 4 years - Dems need to work out their mistake (calling half the country racist, mysoginist etc isn't that lesson), and pick someone decent.

Ready for 4 years of chaos and nonsense...
The issue is Republicans made exactly the same mistakes and worse, they just get away with it. Trump is by an reasonable measures a terrible candidate and Republicans have happily called Democrats all sorts of names. They have even tried witholding aid and using natural disasters to score political points. They have repeatedly threatened to shut down the entire government but they just get away with it.

It seems only the democrats are expected to act reasonably and like adults.

Owen Jones practically cheering for Trump on twitter, such an odious little worm
Be interesting to know how many people bought Jones's whole "Genocide Joe". The only thing Biden will be remembered for is the destruction of Palastine line.

He won't ever realise he just fed Trump support.

I doubt Owen Jones even moved the dial on the other side of the pound. Do they have a left wing idiot along those lines?

Plus Ukraine happening on his watch. I like Joe and think he's a decent man with good intentions but I suspect history will look upon him as a weak and incapable President who came to office about 8-12 years past his prime.

The reasonable measure in this context is winning though, I suppose. That's just how democracy works, fortunately or unfortunately

I'm going to invoke Godwin's law but Hitler won an election, that doesn't stop him being a terrible candidate.

Or perhaps a better way of saying it is it SHOULD make him a terrible candidate as it definitely makes him a terrible choice to hold the office.

Well he didn't win an election, he was given the job because his relatively small party had the balance of power.

Maybe Trump will modify the constitution to allow any US citizen, and not just natural born, to become president and Musk will have a crack

Quit aiming so low.

He could probably ask them to modify the constitution to do away with elections and make it an effective monarchy.

If they don't need a supermajority then the reps in Senate / House would probably go for it ffs.

... and in terms of the Dems.

Can anyone actually name 5 substantial policies of Harris?

If they don't have the balls to say what they stand for - then your only gonna get the middle ground voting for you out of fear of the other option(s).

Our GE called for the 29th. They've all been expecting it so have been doing some canvassing but very short turnaround now. Expecting another FG/FF coalition of some sort hoping the National Party and their ilk don't gain any ground.
