A Political Thread pt. 2

It will be interesting to see exactly what the DUP and hardline Brexiteers will object to. If what is is being said is going to be delivered then what more do they want other than having the protocol scrapped entirely, which is never going to happen.

Its essentially massaging the NI Protocol with no fundamental change. To the extent I can't even bring myself to point out the injustice of Scotland not having the same terms. The 'red lane' would still be a problem here and will still cause bureaucracy in NI.

At least Rishi gave it a shot but the fact is the DUP benefit from having Stormont shut down. They never wanted it. The real solution was to reform Stormont to exclude those arent willing to engage with the political system and give the keys to the car to those who are.

In other devolution news, on the same day Rishi panders to the DUP and Loyalist thugs, he decides he will now veto a bottle recycling scheme in Scotland if it is passed by the Scottish parliament. Clearly a threat to UK National Security if ever there was one.

I can't help feeling there is something a bit wrong to pandering to terrorist scum at the same time as curtailing democracy in a nation that has behaved itself and followed the rule of law. But hey, I guess I'm out of my mind for not wanting my affairs governed by Westminster.

2 things I wanted Sunak to do:

1. Sort out the NI Protocol so we could actually implement the already agreed trade deal with the EU.
2. Stop the water companies pumping **** into our rivers.

He has sorted out number 1 so credit to him for that. He just needs to stop the turds coming down the Trent now.

This is just a pretty nonsense understanding of that situation, and I'm sure you are too smart to not know that

Attempted to sort out the NI protocol, time will tell if he has. Let's just say we have been in this territory of the Tories telling us they have a great deal that fixes stuff only to change their mind 5 minutes later...

My view is simple. If you give powers to an elected body then you should abide by them regardless of if you disagree with them. I know Westminster technically can veto, but it completely undermines democracy when interfered with like this.

That's not why it's being vetoed though - ScotGov had to apply for an exemption, and it's an assault on the UK single market.

I don't mind having a proper convo about DRS, but in it's current form, it can't just apply in Scotland.

I think you've been knocking back a few too many single use plastic buckfasts if you are contesting a factually accurate remark.

Wait 23 years for a Scottish Parliament Bill to be vetoed then get two in a month. Or perhaps our resident sage NMBS considers this pure coincidence and a honest Tory response to each instance, whereas there was no issue with the preceding 276 months of legislation.

Naive Mike's BS

LOLZ!

Probably says as much about the SNP trying to ramp up anti English sentiment as they see independence popularity waining tbh - why would rishi, of all people, be making a concerted effort to undermine Scotland when bojo didn't even bother with it? They're doing things they know that Westminster will step in on - like you said, 23 years and then two at once? Very convenient

Think the SNP see the writing on the wall and know if they can't get people angry enough to demand a referendum before the next general election then that's their chance gone

I assume you meant anti-Westminster or anti-Tory sentiment because the SNP doesn't promote anything 'anti-English'.

Go ask that question to lots of people in Scotland with English sounding accents and tell me what you come back with.

They're nationalists, demonising those out with their borders are kind of their speciality, no matter how thinly veiled.

I had a feeling you'd pipe up with something like that. "Demonising those out with their borders" is just utter BS.The SNP are far more welcoming of foreigners or refugees than the Tories will ever be. Why do you think they want to rejoin the EU where there is freedom of movement?

I lived in England for years, have many English friends but have also been on the receiving end of xenophobic abuse (Scottish *****, f'ing jocks etc.). Bottom line - every country has a minority of morons.

Didn't NI already get a **** load of UK tax payers' cash when Theresa May p1ssed away the Tory majority at the snap election and then had to go cap in hand to the DUP with a cash bribe to scrape together a majority? Throw in the benefits of single market access and they've hit the fecking jackpot although you wouldn't think it the way the DUP are acting.

Yeap the DUP got a bribe totalling:

I mean it's amazing the PM is admitting that NI is in an amazing place having frictionless trade with the EU and UK markets.

Sunak is championing the Single Market 🤣

It's amazing the championing for the deal from the Brits (I for one think it's great for NI), but the EU offered something similar in October 2021 but was rejected by Johnson and Frost
