A Political Thread pt. 2

Sadly they don't want and can't talk about Brexit either. So, lost my vote.
I think it's a bit harsh on Labour. I fully understand why they don't and the reality is we need to get the conservatives out. Starmer is also promising to at least look at reforming some aspects of our political system which is a step in the right direction. Labour definitely aren't perfect, but for me not talking about Brexit at the moment shouldn't be a vote decider. We need to first get rid of the Tories to stop the damage they are continually doing. Honestly it's going to take decades to rebuild Britain to where it was if that's even possible. Now personally is not the time to talk about reversing Brexit for Labour.

I see the Tories losing eventually due to the cyclical nature of politics and the electorate just getting tired of them after 15 years.

It won't matter in my constituency who I vote for as it is die hard blue Tory. I have never voted Labour in my life but was tempted, but sadly because of this won't. So either Lib Dem or Greens.

Fair enough. I just think that you're too focused on Brexit in the short term. Yes it would be great to wave a magic wand to magically undo it and fix everything, but it's not going to happen. Short term focus should be removing the Tories and reforming the system so they can't cling onto power again like this with a minority of voters due to an antiquated voting system. They will leave this country in such a mess that Labour will struggle to fix things even if competent and with a clear majority. We could very well see Conservatives back again in the election after if Labour don't perform well. Brexit should be a long term goal and probably a slow reintegration over years.

Ceasefire?

It's so astonishing how Brexiters try to blame remainers for their choice. It's not remainers who chose Brexit or remainers who then royally ****** it up, that was Brexiters both times. Brexiters voted for it, Brexiters lied about our negotiating position, Brexiters went into the negotiations with a belligerent attitude, Brexiters appeared to say one thing at the negotiating table and then another to the public, Brexiters played musical chairs with government positions, Brexiters reneged on our own negotiated agreements, Brexiters then negotiated a new agreement, Brexiters then lied about the state of that agreement, Brexiters lied and ignored the issues with the Irish border and Brexiters swept aside all remainer concerns as just being "remoaners" or "not believing in Britain".

Nah **** them. These shits have had multiple opportunities to avoid disaster and every time they chose to **** it up further and threw any words of caution back in the faces of those giving that advice. Now they turn around and claim it's for remainers to sort it out, remainers to shift their stance, remainers that are holding them back. Just yet another case of Brexiters looking for anyone to blame but themselves. They got to own this crap and I see no reason why remainers should abandon our views, especially as it seems they are now being shown to be correct. We changed the decision to enter the precursor to the EU with another referendum so why could we not then change again in the future?

It's Brexiters stubborn adherence to dogma in the face of evidence and reason that has got us into this mess and they seem to every turn to double and triple down on the blind dogma rather than ever just ******* accepting reality as it is. Genuinely getting really sick of these people. OWN IT.

Republicans currently in the process of tearing themselves apart, falling at the very first hurdle. Actually not even that, tripping over the start line would be more apt. The next 2 years are going to be a stunning display of incompetence and malicious partisanship.

The fact Jim bloody Jordan of all people is the 3rd choice they are throwing their support behind shows just how ****** up the Republican party and American right in general are at the moment. Apparently failing to elect a speaker on the first day is unprecedented.

No from what I've read it has happened before, especially in the 1800's when it took 2 months. But it has been over 100 years since a speaker last had to go through multiple votes so it is very embarrassing. Considering that the party in opposition usually does well in midterms this is bad news for republicans.

What a circus, the 20 are just cycling through a bunch of different candidates and stand up chatting such bullshit.

on to fifth vote. I do not see this ending any time soon. Only takes 4 (i think) to stall it.
4 unless others abstain, but that only works if they are democrats or one of the 20 rebels. 1 republican did abstain, but they already voted McCarthy, so didn't help him at all.

Trump appealing for people to support McCarthy and still he fails with Trumpers forming a large chunk of those opposing him. The rabid dogs are loose and out of control. This is hopefully the glorious moment that occurs every time extremists get into positions of power where they begin to turn on each other.

Describing a confrontation at his London home in 2019, Harry says William called Meghan "difficult", rude" and "abrasive", which Harry calls a "parrot[ing of] the press narrative" about his American wife.

The confrontation escalated, Harry writes, until William "grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor".

I'm not sure this will get through but even the fact they're trying is shameful but what you'd expect from this lot. I would encourage mass protests and riots if this does indeed get through.

Are they going to properly compensate those sectors like the the military?
