A Political Thread pt. 2

Unfortunately I think all the Republicans have learned from this is that the way for is further extremism as Trump got the stage where he had enough followers who were prepared to attack the seat of US democracy. That's a lot of individual power in the cult of personality and some of the more disgusting Republicans will want that.

I worry that Trumpism will rise again in a tea-party esque movement in 2022 as a bunch of Republicans get replaced with more autocratic and insane ones and the Republicans as a whole lurch even further towards extremism.

Almost guaranteed,
His kids were on stage yesterday saying how the republican party has failed them blah blah blah
They'll definitely start a MAGA party

I wouldn't mind a MAGA party as that could split the right wing vote and reduce the relative power of each (although the maga party may not care about the vote again and end up like the brownshirts). Taking over the Republican party completely will be more dangerous IMO, There needs to be unified opposition to this. Democrats are too feeble to take a strong line and Republicans realise this is their way to attempt to claw back power in 2 years time.

Aye that's true,
A MAGA party would be worrying because there is a pretty large number of Trump fans, and left to their own devices who knows what kind of frenzy they'd whip themselves up into - don't think they'd achieve much politically, but destructively? Yesterday showed what they're happy to do

Hopefully yesterday was a wake up call to some of the more moderate republicans as to what kind of environment they've helped create with their silence.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the republicans go for Romney as their new top guy to try and look more sensible again - though he'll have to go up against a Don Jr/Tucker Carlson type figure who will be focused solely on the loons

I posted the same tweet on the previous page. :D
My apologies - my browser doesn't display embedded tweets from here I'm afraid; and there were way too many to open them all.
The US Capitol Police is a small organization similar to a university police department. They're nothing like a city police department with SWAT teams, etc. and are only responsible for the campus area where the Capitol building resides. From what I saw on the news here in the USA there were around 2,000 Trumpanzees that stormed the Capitol building. So there's no way the Capitol Police could have held them back. But they should have been better prepared by doing something to supplement their small staff, like asking Washington DC police to assist them beforehand. After all, psycho Trump has been inciting violence for a long time. I saw this coming and I live on the other side of the country. Sheesh.
I thought they did - but the request was refused

With the Dems having a split vote in themselves they need a split party on the right.
The internal power struggle with the Democrats will just get more and more apparent now that they have the House and Senate.

The young Progressives of the party have shown they will be loud against their own party if they want change and they are making massive grassroot ground in a lot of areas.
Though the Traditional core Dem politicians are about as left as the Cameron Tories, no way do they want to move their party to the left, look at how quick they turned on the progressive when they lost Florida.

BUT as Oly said a MAGA party would be massively scary.
Trump got the 2ND Highest ever popular vote total beating Obama 2008 by nearly 5 million.
It wouldn't be like the tea party it would be a very scary sized party.

It seems to be the trouble with most countries though right now.
The left is splitting to "central" (depending on country) and progressives whilst the mainstream centre right party will pander to the Hard right because they know that the more central right voters won't vote for socialists and the rise of non mainstream media has taken the voting out of traditional peoples hands.

I do feel that the Dem's really need to force the Rep into a position where if they don't denounce trump and his supporters then they need to be tarred with the same brush. Do not let a single republican try and hide out without forcing them to say this **** is wrong and Trump.
Because either they denounce trump and lose the Looney vote or they don't and risk losing the areas like the large mid west areas or the more developing south areas (Especially those with developing tech bubbles).

This is the wrong dynamism most on the left are progressive in nature what you usually have is a split between idealists and pragmatists. Idealists want to make radical change suddenly whereas pragmatists are more inclined to gradual change.

No apology necessary. I thought it was funny that we both did, and that's why I used the :D at the end of my post.

Biden's been smart in offering members of The Squad (AOC, Bush, Tlaib) reasonably high up roles in his set up as part of the house oversight committee - while I doubt he'll be taking too many suggestions from them it's good optics for people who just see him as more of the same.
Plus it means we get to see AOC tear into more people, which is always fun

As an American, I hope the FBI will check all the pictures and videos on social media and make some serious arrests. The Capitol Police have some members that need to be arrested too, there's no excuse for opening the doors for those terrorist Trumpanzees and then taking selfies with them. Trump, his eldest son, Guiliani, and several Republican House members should be jailed as well. They're all guilty of inciting that riot. I doubt any of them will do jail time, but they deserve it. F_ck all of those b_stards!

I've no idea how realistic it is but the symbolism of Trump being removed by the 25th Amendment would be fantastic.

Worried about how some of his supporters might react though.

It all depends on how the cabinet and Pence feel after getting some sleep. It'll either happen today or won't. One assumes if Pence announces something its going to happen.

After that he's pretty much gone permanently he can appeal to congress but they don't have to hold a vote for 21 days meanwhile Pence stay in charge.
