A Political Thread pt. 2

Fisheries is going to be key here. If the EU don't get access to UK waters you could an independent Scotland getting in the EU via a back door if they give the EU its fishing rights.

Fisheries is a red herring (pun intended).

Fishing brings to the UK economy less than Harrods. Most fishing fleets were sold off in the late 90s and early 00s. The UK exports more fish to the EU than it imports. The UK population don't like UK fish.

It's merely a talisman to be patriotic with.

Fisheries are a huge red herring (pardon the pun) its **** all in terms of our GDP. That'll be thrown to wolves in some compromise and is just there as headline "well we got some of it back" symbolic victory when they have to make a concession.

Also similar with governance and disputes its more symbolic (probably will be framed as a victory for the EU).

I suspect where the meat is in the utterly boring and uniteresting "level playing field" which about how the state bails out or supports businesses.

Yeah get all that but Brexit it's self is a tailsman to the patriotic. UK fisheries are a big deal to the EU. If they don't get full access to UK waters then I believe its could be used by the SNP as a back door to EU membership even with its finances lacking the EU standards.

What would be a funny outcome is if Trump again got his wish but twisted like genies do if you aren't careful. What if the electors did ignore the vote, but it was Trump electors who ignored it and vote for Biden instead? After all one of the primary reasons for having electors rather than a direct vote was to act as a break on any demagogue who may rile up a sizeable chunk of the population and it was the electors job to ensure such people could not get power. Maybe some might be reminded of that and just watch how quickly Republicans would start whinging about not respecting the will of the people as expressed through the vote.

Then again the Republicans are such a bunch of shameless ******* hypocrites they really wouldn't care.

So the Wall Street Journal had an extremely condescending op-ed about the incoming first lady (calling her "kiddo" among other things) and saying she doesn't have the right to call herself Dr, despite having a doctorate (and 2 masters degrees). WTF is wrong with the American right? They really do seem hate intelligence and gravitate towards crass idiocy. Not even the sort of stupid that knows it is stupid but the sort of stupid that thinks it's clever and all the intelligent ones are actually the stupid ones. Has there ever been a culture more proud of it's ignorance and more disregarding of experience and intelligence? They had no problem with a braindead model trophy wife who posed nude and had all the grace of a **** smear but absolutely detested a Harvard educated attorney and now a woman with a doctorate...
