[2025 Six Nations] Ireland vs England - 01/02/25

Early rumours are that Prendergast will start. From Ruaridh O'Connor though, and whike he's probably Munster fans' favourite journo, he's not the most accurate for shouts like this.

If we do go this way it's an interesting contrast with England who are likely to go the other way with their two 10s. Crowley and M Smith are both 10s who want to break the game up and score off an unstructured defence. Prendergast and F Smith are far happier and more adept at inflicting the opposition to death by a thousand cuts over the period of an attack / half / game.

Obviously both close calls, my personal preference is to let the Prendergast / F Smith type 10 start and use Crowley / M Smith as points of difference off the bench. The English pair are a year ahead in development to their Irish counterparts too (although Crowley is the most accomplished of the 4 currently) so a good learning opportunity for our lads.

I doubt the battle of the 10s will be the winning and losing of the game, it was neither side's strength last year but fun none the less because I think last year both teams became unstuck a few times as they didn't really know what they wanted to get out of their outhalf play.
Is he? That's an eyebrow raiser. Based upon what exactly?

You've got to imagine he's in the running. Frankly a back row of Willis, Earl and Curry could do some serious damage, and given the lack of real punch through the centres could help beef up the back line? Then you bring on CCS for impact.
We may see

6 Chessum
7 Tom Curry
8 Willis

Earl and CCS off the bench

The Telegraph says B and T Curry likely to start alongside Earl wifh T Willis, Cunningham-South and Chessum on a 6-2 bench.
Ben and Tom 6 and 7? I hope not, I like both alot and deserve to play but I'd rather CCS/Chessum at 6, B/T Curry at 7 and Willis or Earl at 8, with the other at 19 20 21.

I'd go
CCS Willis TCurry
19 Chessum
20 BCurry
21 Earl

Happy if B and T are Switched, Earl happy to start but I think Willis deserves a start on form.

Well the England camp under Borthwick hasn't been particularly leaky. We've seen leaked sides before now that haven't been correct.

I wouldn't take it as gospel that this is the lineup.

There's also the possibility that incorrect info is being deliberately leaked.

Now leak is a positively disgusting word @General Melchett

Fair enough. None of which are individual measures, but I guess they're not subjective.

I meant that in terms of achievements yeah. I think the players are essentially a pack of three at a very similar level early in their careers with Prendergast very close to joining the level.

The primary thing holding Prendergast behind is his current habit of starting slowly before figuring out the pace / intensity of the game, F Smith was similar last year and Crowley too when stepping up to the international level, it's a natural stage for a lot of 10s.

Very hard argument to suggest any have shown anything to elevate themselves from the pack imo.

Marcus is ahead imo

At least its a nice position to be in actually discussing the back row and quality players.
