[2025 Six Nations] Ireland vs England - 01/02/25

I don't understand the logic of starting with both Curry brothers. Can someone explain please? They are both jacklers and link men rather than ball carriers. Why wouldn't you want ball carriers against Ireland?

Why announce it so early? Even if fairly predictable, it just doesn't make sense.

Like the back row individually, not as a unit. When the subs come on there will have to be a total emphasis shift - do the Irish stop competing at the breakdown after 55 mins? (Assume Chessum likely to replace Martin in the row, even worse if he doesn't).

Don't like 6:2. Presumably a clear signal that M Smith will finish the game at FB. Not too bothered about Murley over Roebuck, but if one of the wingers goes down we've got no real gas / significant wing experience to replace them.

Pleased to see LCD back.

That's not really true though, @TRF_Olyy can probably do a better job answering this as the resident Sale expert, but my take is that they're often lazily cast as 'the same' because they're identical twins.

IMO, Tom hasn't really been a link man since he bulked up to play 8. He's more of a carrier and ruck hitting workhorse these days. In many ways, more of a traditional blindside. Ben is definitely lighter and more of a fetcher.

Yes thats how i would see it also.

But hes clearly gone with the mobile powerful 3 7's style and will then look to bring the power on to see out the game. But we have to be close to the Irish up to the 45-50 min point if thats to work...

You mean Sale have other fans somewhere?

Feel for Roebuck, maybe if Freeman continues his mediocre form Steve will give Roebuck a shot with Murley on the other wing. Happy for Murley though, excited to see how he goes.
Freeman has been excellent in SBs eyes though. He's been brilliant at kick chase and got a load of those 50/50 high bombs.

He was used very oddly though last year and several times ended up at FB with Furbank in the line. So fans don't see him showing his X factor and lots doubting his form but I can guarantee SB is loving him doing the boring stuff.

Would be nice to see him used like we do at the saints though, wingers are supposed to be used in attack.

I agree, I think Freeman is a great player hopefully we see more of him over the coming weeks. I just like what Roebuck is about atm.

I like that England team and squad a lot. No complaints here.

Of course on other sites people are bemoaning no Ted Hill in the match day squad. Considering our wealth in the backrow this seems like a odd complaint. Although I guess no team/squad is going to satisfy everyone.
