[2019 Six Nations] Ireland vs England (02/02/2019)

Overstating it somewhat for someone who's not even the best in any one position in his country.

Good player when on form, highlight reel stuff when given space (which Ire won't) and his kicking game's good. But if everyone's fit he's bench for me.

Yeah he's an awfull player in every position not sure why he got selected for the lions, oh wait that's rights he's a very good player with fairly rare attributes just struggling for form in teams which have struggled across the park, I really don't understand your point here....

Thought he was great on the Lions tour and was expecting him to take it to the next level for England following on from that. Then when he started getting selected at 15 I thought he would be tailor made for the position but it just hasn't panned out as of yet.

Yeah I would agree on paper you could see him playing a similar style to Hogg, unfortunately that hasn't happen but as I said it's pretty difficult to go well in an unfamiliar position when teams are not going well, just getting tired of him being slated constantly when a fair chunk of it is not his fault, it seems to me the worse things get the worse his descisions become a catch 22 really, he's defiantly guilty of trying to hard but with constant criticism and mounting pressure it becomes someone inevitable, It maybe a wise move to continue with him at 15 after all the only real alternative is Brown if he gets injured during or before the World Cup what other options do you have.

Dalys not a bad player he's just in terrible form

Should be refinding himself for his club not in the pressure cooker that is Dublin against the best kickers in the game in (presumably) poor conditions.
He didn't look comfortable at 15 when when carrying good form into internationals, let alone now.

It makes it worse when we have a fullback who is in excellent form and is tailor made for these conditions and he doesn't even make the 23

Yeah what actually is the deal with Jones view on Goode?

Goode is a proven failure at international level.

People calling for his inclusion have very short memories.
Excellent club player, can't make the step up.

I wouldn't be so quick to simply throw him out for good(e)... if a player struggles at international level and is left out for a spell, I believe he 'should' have the opportunity to regain his spot if his club form is good(e) enough.

My serious prediction
First 20 - Teams trading pens 9-6 To Ireland
Last 10 - Ireland will score a try 16 - 9
16-9 half time
First 10 minutes England score a pen 16-12
Ireland get a try 23-12
Ireland get another pen 26-12
England finish with a try 26-17
Game over.

Being honest. Given weather and 1st game nerves etc this uas an 11-9 or something written all over it.
Interestingly Ireland tend to be slow starters in tournaments like last uear agaunst France we were nearly caught and I believe thats why the Portuguese trip was done this year to blend back that bit more.
Tue more I think of ot the more I can see England having a chance bulldozing but equally can see the benefits of Henshaw at 15 countering it.

It will be a tough and tight game. I reckon the forwards will be battered after it.

Take off our late try and Chuck in a penalty or two more for Ireland and I see it going that way too

You might not remember but Kidney was 1 of best for rewarding kids with form in his Munster days 100%. And made big calls. So I think doing that and having a Slam and 2 HECs he did ok with his picking on form gambles

I don't think Kidney was a particularly great selector, my view of him in fairness was coloured negatively early on in his stint at Leinster. There's no doubting his achievements, and he was excellent for Munster, but I think he got lucky in inheriting teams that were good enough to win things but that needed a change of coach.

I'd say the ultimate coach for picking on form and giving youth a chance right now is Leo Cullen.

He gave Keith Earls, Barry Murphy, Ian Dowling, Denis Hurley and Tomas O'Leary to name a few all their starts in big calls.

Cullen gives youth a chamce to be fair but the comparison is pointless as now between schools gotten more professional and academy improving the options are far better. But Cullen does back them
