[2017 RBS Six Nations] Round 1: England vs. France (04/02/2017)

I was expecting this to be more entertaining. Good spirit from England if nothing else.

TBF to both of them the forwards have offered them fek all, unlike last year.

But Robson and Spencer needs to be brought in sooner rather than later IMO.

True but their basics still let them down sometimes. And when they redeem themselves, which they do, it's not in that department but through opportunism and good running

Disagree Youngs box kicking for England is his best trait v Aus in the AI his box kicking kept us in the first half. (That is a big basic for 9's).

That scrum.............

What does Mullan bring to the table? That He isn't aggressive?

Oh yeah his box kicking was great but since returning to club I'm sure you won't be arguing that he's kept that up.

TFFT One of things I like about Jones era is we find ways to win under Lancaster we would have lost that I think.

Phew

I'll take the win but that was a **** show and we need to work on pretty much everything.

Not quite sure how we won that, but it says a lot that we found a way. Expecting changes for next week. Don't like being totally outmuscled out front.

That sluggish match in perfect conditions was a great argument for the inclusion of bonus points to gradually encourage more ambitious and entertaining play. What a plod. Hopefully Italy go top with a BP victory tomorrow. :p

No warning.... hmm. It must be the rules

So Tommi your still just harping on about rules yet don't know them then try ignore. Pity I don't seem to understand people who slate the ref yet when asked to explain what was wrong just can't explain.

Ugly win and not a patch on the first game of the day, but still 15 wins in a row is not to be sniffed at. Next week, better be a better performance at the Principality.

Well, a win is a win, is a win - but really! That was the worst England performance since the 2015 RWC. Back to their error strewn worst and still managed to scrape a win despite coming off second best in virtually every facet of the game. Perhaps we should say that to play that badly and still win is an encouraging sign?
Mike (breathing huge sighs of relief)

& therein lies the problem. It's interpretation by the ref in the moment.

The difference between yellow and red on the field is obvious.

The difference between a penalty and yellow is less obvious in the moment. Refs probably need to rely more on real time reply to make an objective decision.

Well to be fair ref got interpretation of pen 100% on money. He was advised by TMO to give yellow. In that they both agreed it was yellow. But regards May incident. By laws it was a yellow. Not saying I agree with it but by law when elbows come up that high in lift (thats what they look at) it's a yellow. If he showed them go back down then it's red. Your right but in that area there's very little not a yellow by laws

Great get out of jail card from England.
The bench served them well.
Great gear change from a fresh bench. Haskell looked great.
Keep your faith in Eddie chaps, you were rubbishing Teo as well as Daly before the game and both played blinders.
For the luckless French who got a hard serve at Twickenham from the ref, which is pretty standard for visiting teams, well played and that one kick they missed would have tied it up.
Picamoles was sublime.
Launchbury, good club player but not really international standard.
Good game.
I can see now why England are desperate to avoid the All Blacks, they would have been slaughtered out there today on that performance.
