[2016 RBS Six Nations] Round 5: Ireland vs. Scotland (19/03/2016)

Ahh you agree sexton cheated then ?
And it seemed to me even when they scored a try under the posts Ireland were not happy with that they decided to have a fist party to try and get another yellow card. When the really beauty was a brilliant try that as far as I saw a player jumping high level to score. I wonder what if young new players absorb this and think that this is the normal way to win games, by hook or by crook.

Well played Gauzeres one of the best ref's in the game. Another good performance and yellow cards at the right time! Only thing he missed was not giving Sexton one for play acting.....

Ref was an absolute prick sunshine ! Gtranny was from Tipperary ! Irish back row blocked consistently ( illeegal ) and Scotland had two yellows ! Naive ref out of his depth .

There's a shock factor on getting flipped 270 degrees. It's pretty plausible that he was hurt but a bit ****** off at some prick risking breaking his neck, a decent amount of adrenaline in that moment when I experienced it. Maybe he was playing the ref but it helped to win the game so I don't care.

Anyway Sexton had a very good match and we got the comfortable win I expected. Decent finish to the championship, I imagine the backline will change a bit with the new defence coach in and Schmidt not relying on the basics of Kiss' system... Which had been half forgotten by the looks of things.

Jesus, everybody really hates us now, i'm so sad and devastated.

I'm Scottish by birth and have Irish heritage through both parents. Ireland are my second team. Ireland done what they had to. Unfortunately,to borrow a term from football, the ref was a "homer". What they got away with at the breakdown was beyond " it goes with the game" and "it evens itself out". I usually agree with that, but this was just bad refereeing. Very inconsistent.

1. Ireland deserved to win. No excuses and we were well beaten. Agreed.

2. The Irish team, like their provinces, cheat constantly around the ruck by tackling opponents players without the ball beyond the ruck. We need refs to start pinging this.A bit unfair but correct in this game. Ireland were illegally at times blowing well passed the ruck. The Scots were powder puff in allowing it though. For the record the NZ'ers set the standard at this.

3. Completely agree with the Jonny Sexton play acting point. He was well enough to appeal to the ref for the penalty, and then suddenly seemed to get a headache. Hope he's cited. Agreed. I'd like to see players banned for that ****e. Yellow was fully deserved though.

4. Ref was completely inconsistent. Yellows twice to Scotland for ruck offences. Then after Sextons yellow, they stop us getting the ball from the ruck one yard from the posts, and are penalised with no yellow. All because the ref is afraid to reduce them to 13. Thought the ref had a great game. I can turn your point around on you and say the Scots at one stage were lucky they weren't reduced to 12, such were their indiscretions.

5. Take out of Taylor (I think) on the near touch with a late tackle was a yellow card offence - again.???

6. Clear crossing by the Irish three quarters attacking our line in the last ten minutes- totally missed by the ref. Case for it perhaps but it had no bearing.

7. Generally, I think weak refs ruin big games with too many yellow cards (no matter which team). Three in this match. Lot of cynical slowing of the ball. I like the ref penalising that stuff.

8. Just for the avoidance of doubt to finish - well done Ireland and we need to do better!Agreed. No hard luck stories for Scotland. They allowed Ireland bully them for 40. In all honesty they always struggle in the forwards against us. I'm not sure why because we hardly have an imposing pack.

Is it me or are Ireland the most cynical, mardy, whinging team in the world? Always calling for cards always moaning to the ref. Real lack of class

Did you not see Laidlaw all game or was the one eye shut?!!!!

Ireland have always been good at it though.......

Don't worry, you'll get used to Manx,he doesn't usually make much sense.
Most of us are still trying to figure out why he's so opinionated on an Ireland v Scotland thread?

Anybody else give up trying to read this post because of the neon green highlights?
No offence, I just couldn't read it without hurting my eyes.

Doing a lot to please you. Hope you enjoyed your blue moon and Irelands 'comfortable' win.

He's a rugby fan, it's a rugby forum.

He knows his rugby, and what he says make very often sense. Whether you like it or not is a different story.

I'd love to hear Valley Commando's take on the Sexton simulation, given that he still loses sleep over Hogg's dive six months ago.

Thank you for that support - it is appreciated!

Incidentally, for those interested, there is quite a potent rugby scene in the Island, albeit at junior level, with at least four clubs of which two clubs compete in UK leagues!!

Just watched the highlights on Youtube. Hogg just runs through the entire Ireland team. That try is a thing of beauty. Standout 15 of the tournament from an attacking and entertainment perspective.

Thanks for trying. As for the blue moon, the game went as predicted. Lots of Scottish mistakes and Ireland won. Not comfortably.
Congratulations to them. As ever, can Scotland kick on?
