[2015 RWC] Warm Up Match: France vs England (22/08/2015)

Haskell usurp's Wood in the pecking order.

What a team! All this talk about Burrell "is he going to perform"? I Can't see how he isn't going to perform in that team with those players around him against this french team, i think SL could pick me at 12 and i would probably look half decent..

Ah, but he didn't mention Ford.

Yes, I agree that at international level a good bosh carrier seems a badly needed addition to that midfield, but that doesn't rule out a 2nd out-half style player if you have the right man available. And as Bath have shown, albeit at lower levels, there's other ways of balancing it.

My gut says Hask is ahead of Wood at the moment.

Maybe, Lancaster likes him in the lineout though and he did seem to jump really well at he weekend.

Re: 12s, what wouldn't I give for a Toomua, big lad who can crash but is also a great ball player and kicker. Like Twelvetrees, but good.

Devoto in future? I honestly think Eastmond could well be second choice at Bath by Christmas, even if he doesn't f**k off back to league in a sulk.

Based on the team I'd say most positions are sorted in Lancaster's head.

Only choices are
prop: Corbisiero or Brookes (depends a lot on injury)
Lock: Attwood or Kruis as cover for first 3.
Centres: assuming Goode goes, Slade or Burgess.

Easter is there, but can't seen him going.
Cipriani and 36 are last chance and need to some how turn the game on it's head to get picked.

Think both Slade and Burgess are in now. :D

Strong team out there, nearly full strength.

I can see them not taking 36 & Slade.

I think they won't worry about taking a ball playing 12 now, i think they will expect to rack up points against Fiji and Urugay no matter who plays 12/13, and i think against Wales and Australia (and Q/F on wards should we get there) they will look to balance JJ out with physicality, and they have Fazlet in the wings as a ball playing 12 as well.

So i think they'll take physical presence over ball skills.

If Burgess doens't go then they'll take 36, i don't think Slade will make the cut.

Wouldn't Burrell count as 13 cover too? He's looked much better there for England than At 12.
I think he's more similar to JJ than he's treated. Slower, admittedly worse, but a bit more physical. 12 Slade/Barritt 13 Burrell wouldn't be half bad.

If Slade was out of the running from the start, then I'm not sure why Lancaster would have given him any game time given how many centres are in the squad.

If Slade has been in the running, I'm not sure what more he has to do after the last game.

i think they wanted to have a look at slade, and i think he was in the running, but now the dust has settled i'm not sure he really did enough to usurp the pecking order in the eyes of Lancaster and co - who seem pretty set in their ways.

From an outsider perspective it would be better for the rest of the world if SL chose Wood. He is injury prone and brittle. He's tall and quick and a fine player but in the big games he is injury prone.
Haskell is the one the other teams do not want to face. He's a monster, an enforcer and with him at 6 you can play a genuine sniffer at number 7 who is lightning fast, if England has one, failing that play another blindside like Robshaw.

Do you actually watch rugby?

Wood is injury prone and Haskell is an enforcer?

Both not correct, Haskell often goes missing in bigger games and is certainly not an enforcer and wood is not that I jury proned at all compared to other rugby players.

He did say from an outsider perspective. Bit harsh to someone who has suggested they may not be experts.

Agreed. Speaking as someone who's a bit rugby thick, even my random ******** can help spark discussion. Welcome friend :)

On current form, I, and I think Lancaster, would take Haskell over Wood. When the Hask works he works well, when Wood works he works well- who's working atm?

Itoje ??

Can't believe they won't take Slade after the performance last game . I think he will get another look in during the Ireland game tbh

Lancaster actually said he doesn't NEED to cut the team on the 31st of August

Squads have to be announced on the 30th don't they?

Who am I? :D This is probably the first time Burrell has had to fight for a position in his pro career so far, so there could be a few nerves there, but he is a decent player and I'm sure he'll have a good game..
