[2015 RWC] Semi Final 1: South Africa vs. New Zealand (24/10/2015)

Yes. Minimum height above sea in South Africa is 800m. The maximum is around 2500m, I believe, and the average South African resides at about 1100m above sea level.

I'm confused - how does a country with a coastline have a minimum hight of 800m above sea level?

? The ships just stop at the docks as normal?

Cliffs?

It's the height above sea level.

While we wait for anything meaningful to be released about the rugby I'm glad we have u here to keep us entertained.

I worry for all those wanting to go for a swim at the beach in SA. Getting back onto land would be tough. Perhaps they have 800m ladders to use to climb back onto land?

I was under the impression South Africa had some of the finest beaches in the world - but you have schooled us all on geography. Including google, which keeps inventing a coastline.

Wow!!

I must go to the Land Surveyor immediately!! He's busy measuring up some prime real estate for my dad where he wants to retire and build a nice vacation home. According to his diagrams, the property is exactly 10m above sea level, And is only seperated from the coastline by those cement slab things at docks to prevent the waves from crashing over.

That is 790m below the high and mighty KeyboardWorrier facts...

But okay, I guess credibility is not high on some people's priority list...

I was amazed at how much praise Heyneke gave the All Blacks at yesterday's squad announcement. Be nice afterwards regardless. This constant praise is off putting. I don't think he is one for mind games. I just think he is sometimes too nice.

It's about respect. And I love the respect there is currently between HM and Coach Hansen, as well as the players of the Bokke and the All Blacks.

Did you know that HM and Hansen have a dinner together before every match their teams play against each other since they both took over as coach in 2012? Did you know that this week was the first time that they couldn't have dinner due to the traffic in London and where the 2 camps were situated.

Hansen even once said that when they play the Boks, it feels like fighting his brother.

I wish this humility and respect was omnipresent in most teams and sports...

I agree, I think your dad is lying.

So dom soos grond.

Yup! But let's not let this thread spiral out of control due to one bad apple.

Let's get back on topic, and take a breather (of apparently very very thin air)...

But just for educational purposes. Here are some of the altitudes of our coastal cities:

Eastern Cape:
East London - http://www.fallingrain.com/world/SF/05/East_London.html
Port Elizabeth - http://www.fallingrain.com/world/SF/05/Port_Elizabeth.html

Western Cape:

Kwazulu Natal:
Durban - http://www.fallingrain.com/world/SF/02/Durban_North.html

These are just the ones that have a major Rugby/Cricket Stadium where international games have been hosted...

Gosh guys, I'm disappointed. I thought I've trolled you all enough and that you've learned to sniff them out. Tsk tsk tsk.

And he's not even that good of a troll. Well not nearly as good as I am.

Haha, they're easy that's for sure. I should've told them I thought SA boats came up on conveyorbelts. They would have believed me.

Easy game for us this. All Blacks won't be able to cheat this time around so we'll be fine.

I want SA to win, not because of their boring one dimensional rugby, but because of what they would've achieved in getting to the final and winning it, with all that has gone before them. They will truly have won so many people over and have a new level of admiration for their mental toughness.
