[2015 RWC] Pool A: Australia vs. Wales (10/10/2015)

I'm just gutted that Alex Dunbar didn't make it. A world class centre and no mistake. Would love to have seen him and Bennett up against the Aussies.

Gee Tigs, do you ever offer any insight into the games, or are just out to moderately troll threads? Come on mate, it's getting tiresome.

Aussie defense looked strong, but I don't think the Welsh offer much in attack, they have one or two good backs, but not scoring vs a 13 man Australian side isn't impressive, regardless of how good Australia finished. They should have more backline moves than that. Disappointing result.

It virtually gives Australia a semi-final spot and possibly a final spot depending on the draw, I can't see Scotland giving them too much grief, they can't defend nearly as well as Wales.

All I said was no?

Prior to that, the threads are always dominated with your minor arguments and the defense of England.

Defense of England OMG OMG are you really being serious.

Granted today I have woken up on the wrong side of the bed and am annoyed Japan are now out and I'm sorry for that.

But I have never defended this England rugby!!!!!

I'm fed up of the arrogant (Robshaw kick and how we sign that silly song all the time).

Japan had never won a game before in the RWC and then beat South Africa, two time winners and 4th(?) in the world at the time.
Scotland beating Australia wouldn't come close to trumping that.

Good post but one of the yellow cards was given to the scrum half who would have made minimal difference to the level of the defending. I think the main issue was the decision making by Warburton as opposed to the backs' lack of cutting edge.

Agree that Autralia should get past us without too many problems but will be faced with a different threat from the likes of SA or Ireland.

What on earth happened to our kicking game? Half the kicks went lateral, and the collection of the kicks was very disappointing. Australia managed the sin binning extremely well, but think Joubert could have stopped the clock several times when 'injuries' were taking out a couple of minutes and the one scrum took almost 5 minutes (well, it seemed like it).
Can't complain about the result though. Not sure why North cut infield instead of going for the corner, but I guess he thought the Australian defence was coming across quicker and would be an easy step.
Ah well, I think we have an excellent chance to beat SA, and I bet the NZ fans will be cheering France on vs Ireland tomorrow so that they don't have to play them ;)
Looking like an OZ v NZ final otherwise.

Frustrating game to watch. There were multiple opportunities to try but each time to Welsh took silly options. The Aussie defense was as good as it gets with 13 men (ie; a bit ****) but was made to look wonderful due to the crap attack from Wales.

To be honest Wales really did fail to capitalise on the 2 man advantage pretty badly by keeping it in tight too often. Wallaby defence was brilliant, but there a couple of times there when Wales had massive overlaps and Wales just didn't use their numbers.

Did you bug my mates house when we were screaming at the tv? (or were we, as my mates wife said 'being a bit too loud'?)

I saw at least once a massive gap on the left, but the Welsh player ran to the centre where all the Wallabies were? Brain melt down. And they were so flat footed when it was against 13 men. Like deers in a headlight.

I'm fairly certain I could hear people in Wales yelling in frustration from my apartment in Sydney

So I'm going to say it now that referee was an absolute disgrace, after 2 yellow cards and god knows how many penalties on the 5 meter line should have been a penalty try, there is no interpretation the rules are simple. It's like watching Alan Rowland's in 2011 all over again. I am by no means impressed with the stupidity of Wales to constantly rely on forward play when we have backs good enough to rip a team apart when they are 13 men down!!!! We have an absolute mountain to climb with the likes of South Africa next and if these problems of tactics and stupidity are not fixed we deserve to be out of the world cup.

And the 30 or so ****ing warnings the Welsh got? No cards until the 79th min?
The welsh gave a penalty away anytime the aussies were in the defensive half the chicken ****s.

Aussies won it in spite of the ref.

Is there not another fit winger left in Wales to take Cuthberts place? Again anonymous for the whole miserable time he was on on the pitch.
Biggar. What an annoying piece of work he is. Apart from his chicken impressions he's forever throwing his hands up and complaining like a spoilt child. Today he was missing in action.
Warburton. Wow he has been crucified tonight after a decent game marred by one poor decision not to take points on offer.
I'm waiting for a certain Irish member to tear his own team apart when they inevitably mess up something against France.

To all you English fans your out of the world cup so your opinion is invalid.

As for preventing a try on 3 occasion's Wales could have driven over for a try and every time there was infringements, that IS preventing a possible try because your in the 5 meter "red zone" but of course no one will agree with me because as I have seen while being on this forum a week is all NZ, Aus, Irish and English are arrogant as ****.

I have already stated Wales messed up massively so I'm hardly being one-sided.
I agree wi ye

Having read this thread i'm a bit confused, i thought it was for intelligent rugby fans commenting on a hard fought match between two superbly equal defensive teams that prevented each other crossing the line. Yet it seems to have fallen into the gutter by a few trolls that seem bent on just abusing other nations. Enough about that, we weren't good enough to score when Australia were down to 13 and their defence was magnificent even if we took the wrong option again and again. Sam didn't make a bad decision in not kicking, we were two scores behind and we had to go for it. I agree with the earlier comment about our training, i don't think it's a coincidence that's brought about these injuries. South Africa next, unfortunately a game too far i think.

Good result from a NZ fan perspective, no tries scored by either.

Haven't seen the game but on paper it looks good for anyone, after the Aus / Eng game I was really worried about Aus, but now I am a bit more relieved.

Australia were a lot poorer in attack this week, but to be fair Wales put much more pressure at the breakdown and their defence was a lot more aggressive than England's.

It was an insanely gritty and gutsy performance by the Wallabies, but I agree with you that they didn't look like contenders on the level of the All Blacks tonight. That said, the ABs haven't played any genuinely tier 1 nations at all at this RWC, so it's hard to get a read for how well they're really travelling.
