2014 Six Nations: England vs Ireland (Round 3)

The standard of rugby journalism in Ireland is pretty awful. A lot of our fans are clueless as well. Some people think we've 5 'world class wingers' to pick from. You got to laugh.

Yeah the standard of rugby journalism in Ireland is fairly bad but a lot of the foreign media as well as the better guys such as Murray Kinsell went along with that view, as did most intelligent fans as it makes sense. It's people involved in the camo who'd know it wasn't all preplanned.

I haven't seen anyone say we've five world class wingers just people saying we have some excellent ones and a good number who will do a good enough job at internatinal level which is pretty fair.

Fitzgerald, Bowe, Earls, Zebo, McFadden, Trimble, Kearney and Gilroy are all guys who give us a fairly decent pool to pick from. Especially compared to our depth in most other positions even though overall our depth is improving.

Never heard anyone say we'd 5 either. On that list the only Worldclass guy I'd say is Bowe. Zebo has potential but potential is ok but you still need to deliver on it. Earls and Fitzgearld are what I'd say are top players who we will never know as injuries will never let them achieve full potential. Rest are good enough for international but nothing standout

Andrew Conway, Darren Hudson, Darragh Fanning, Tiernan O'Halloran and Denis Hurley surely?!

Of them Conway is ok but will never get to more than fringe for Ireland. Fanning and O'Halloran are just provincial guys. Hurley has been on fire since moving to 12 and think that's where his future is. Doubt he will be international there though. Hudson has impressed me though

Agree about kinsella, hopefully the new breed will be more balanced.

Agree that they're a decent bunch of wingers, better depth then we have had, but seems every irish player is proclaimed as world class if he has 1 good game.

Been honest only guys I've ever called Worldclass are BOD POC Sexton Healy and Rob Kearney. Out of all them only 1 I'd say was overrated at times was Kearney but more so due to his lack of form as opposed to ability.

Never seen SO'B called world class??? :D

Sticking up for my own, the way Rory Best is playing now I wouldn't hesitate to call him world class!

We've come a long way with wingers. Just a few years ago I was embarrassed to see Anthony Horgan being chased down by Jason Eaton. Actually depth in general has improved remarkably.

So most of the Irish team is world class, is that where this is going? :p
Healy, Best, POC, SOB, Sexton, BOD, Kearney ...

I'll be desperately glad to see Wilson back in the England squad. Shame he didn't go so well today but he's still by far the best option.

World class individuals don't mean much when you don't have a world class coach :)

How can BO'D be called world class... when he didn't even play the final Lions game?

World class individuals means nothing when you don't work as a cohesive team :) (hopefully that is starting to change..)

I'd say Healy, POC, and SOB are the only ones considered world class. Anyone else is solid. But as UlsterRugby said it's how a team works together. I've been impressed with the way Ireland has been playing because they work towards their strengths. We have injuries but as long as those positions are covered solidly we are alright if the plan goes well. We lack the running spark in the backs and have smartly adapted to use our strengths that are present in the forwards and halfbacks. Our backs so far have been used to vary lines that set up the next points of attack and also to squeeze a turnover or penalty with an effective chase. From what I've seen our backs haven't shown the ability to break a line. Schmidt seems to point out and make the most of what we have. Unlike some others, I'm a bit worried about England next. I feel they have more potential in their players than what we have if they click.

Sorry, but it's for the musicality of the sentence. Rhythm important, knowmsyin.

How did you spot that pun? :p Ewis I enjoy your quirkiness on this forum regardless if it's downright lame. I read and I chuckle from time to time.

your bitter words don't impress me. My humor is of a classical refinement; each farce an ode to the subtleties of language and the good life ! Begone you and your dirty defamating remarks...

+1 to that...

Maybe add Sexton on a good day.

I hate to say it, but BOD hasn't been "world class" for a couple of years to be honest. He's been getting by on ever more infrequent flashes of sublime skill and his reputation making space for others so he can put them through gaps rather than actually scaring the ***** out of defences with his own beating of defenders*.

*I know, not well worded - but you know what I mean. If a 20 year old unknown was playing like BOD had been, he wouldn't have been near as effective as the defence would just have targeted and closed him out.
