2014 Six Nations: England vs Ireland (Round 3)

Thing is, take away all physical attributes, speed, size etc, anything you might look for in a 9.
All you really need, is a guy who makes the right decisions 95% of the time, and executes his decisions with purpose and urgency. That's all you bloody need. Add in a little speed and skill to that, and you've got yourself a right old Will Genia.

I'd agree... if Ireland win it'll be because of Schmidt's preparation of Sexton.

I was talking to one of the guys involved in the Irish coaching staff yesterday and he was saying how it's funny how wrong the media and publics perception can be. Everyone's been saying how on the money Schmidt's gameplan was gettong Sexton to expose the Welsh back three bwing one of the big [arts of it. Anyway apparently that wasn't really entirely preplanned. Sexton found during the game that they were leaving loads of space and they weren't adapting so he kept doing it. Sexton is obviously a better player for Schmidt's coaching and Schmidt will have the team well prepared but Sexton is a smart enoguhh and mature enough player at this stage to adapt what he sees as the best plan on the day.

Aye, let's judge a player's current form on something he did 5 years ago

We'll never forget Danny Care's moment of stupidity in 2009.

  no way !!
Martin Johnson's first reaction in the vid, his expression was pretty hilarious, but the second is just  he must have literally beat the crap out of him after the match in the locker room to the point where the others had to intervene !

But would Sexton have played the same game under Kidney...? Not so sure tbh.

Let's see what they do against us.

Unfortunately Joe is powerless to Sexton this weekend which is a worry. If he starts for Racing and is in a physical game it will be very bad from an Irish POV

Looks like he's going start Hernandez has called in sick!!

With Kidney's gameplan, probably.

I think that's one of the great things about Schmidt, that he will allow his team to play what they see in front of them and will have devoloped their skills for recongnising what is in front of them.

I'm very interested in what we'll do against you guys. I'm expecting a lot of kicking again but more varied and aimed at getting in behind your defense.

That's what I meant though, Schmidt being in charge allows Sexton to thrive.

It's not Schmidt making Sexton better... it's that he doesn't handicap him.

Which is my worry. I'd a feeling he'd have been a starter regardless. Hope he arrives back in Ireland fresh and healthy as after watching Madigan tonight he did ok but not enough to move Jackson and I'd worry if Jackson had to be 10 too vs Eng. not because they're poor but simply we need an experienced head going over there in such a pivotal area. Just seen Sexton on bench

The 4th choice OH starting, I reckon ROG is having a say in that :)))) lol

I don't think Irish posters are allowed to be worried about Jackson or Madigan coming on when we could have Goode as our back up 10? Or 0 cap ford or out of form burns!

Oh and the English wings left loads of space in behind for sexton, that will be worrying!

Wilson starting for bath today ! I hope he comes through well we could do with him for next week dan cole looks knackered .

Don't know how Wilson got on but twitter tells me George Ford had a blinder and got MOTM. Potentially important for Ireland game selection.

Wilson wasn't that great - went off at about 45mins and didn't have the best day in the scrum. Still a far better option than Thomas, who's scrum penalties gave Sarries 6pts last night in a 5pt game.

Just lacking fitness - inevitable given he had a lower leg injury.
Goes straight back into the side IMO.

The standard of rugby journalism in Ireland is pretty awful. A lot of our fans are clueless as well. Some people think we've 5 'world class wingers' to pick from. You got to laugh.
