2014 QBE Internationals [EOYT] England

Parling has stated at a Leicester Tigers dinner Q & A job that he only had 1 concussion and 2 impact migraines and is fine. Was apparently angry it was made public and was angry that the press exaggerated it.

Stunning revelation..... goodnumber10 is Andy Farrell ;)

My theory of him being Andy Goode has been changed.

Goodnumber10 is rumoured to be Farrell snr nickname for Farrell Jnr.

@Crapspray just made a really good point about how Lancaster has stuck with the same guys, even though he has moved away from his style of play.
In the 2012 6 Nations he started this team against Italy-
15-Ben Foden, 14-Chris Ashton, 13-Brad Barritt, 12-Owen Farrell, 11-David Strettle, 10-Charlie Hodgson, 9-Ben Youngs; 1-Alex Corbisiero, 3-Dan Cole, 2-Dylan Hartley, 4-Mouritz Botha, 5-Tom Palmer, 6-Tom Croft , 7-Chris Robshaw (capt), 8-Phil Dowson
Replacements: 16-Rob Webber (for Hartley, 74), 17-Matt Stevens (for Cole, 74), 18-Geoff Parling (for Palmer, 58), 19-Ben Morgan (for Dowson, 51), 20-Lee Dickson (for Youngs, 51), 21-Jordan Turner-Hall (for Hodgson, 77). Not used: 22-Mike Brown
The changes we have made in our style of play haven't been shown in our team selection. Barritt and Farrell in the centres, Youngs at scrum half and the same starting front row with no recognised fetcher. Now our back three have changed but took to long to do so, Hodgson retired along with Palmer and Botha was never really intl' standard.
Players like Slade, Ewers, Fraser, Kvesic, Watson should have been used about a year ago.

I would agree with that but comparing it to three years ago doesn't really make sense because, and lests be honest, neither Farrell or Barritt are first choice centres are they?

3 months ago the likliest scenario was:
10: Faz/Ford
12: Eastmond/36
13: Tuilagi/Burrell

This is like our 3rd, even fourth choice backline really, Barritt at 13 was always likely to be a stop gap, which is what the Fazlet at 12 is likely yo turn out to be.

Our entire team is more likely to look like this in a year (back ups second):

01: Corbisiero/Marler/Vunipolo
02: Hartley/Youngs/Webber
03: Cole/Wilson
04: Lawes/Parling
05: Launchberry/Attwood
06: Wood/Haskell
07: Robshaw/?????
08: Vunipolo/Morgan
09: Care/Youngs
10: Faz/Ford
11: Yarde/May
12: Eastmond/36
13: Tuilagi/Burrell
14: Nowell/Watson
15: Brown/Goode?

That is signifcantly different to both now and 3 years ago.

Why do you have Eastmond ahead of Barritt ? Wasn't Barritt and Manu meant to play against NZ ? So the changes made are Lawes and Lauch for a guy who retired and a average club player, Vunipola has come in for Dowson who was always a fill in, Care for Youngs and the back three, that has taken 3 years to do so. The thing is what was a problem when he started hasn't now magically gone away, we still struggle to finish chances, we aren't physically dominant on many teams and we have to rely on our defence to win us games/ the ther team has to have a poor game. IMO we should look at playing as big a pack as we can put out Corbs-Hartley-Wilson-Attwood-Garvey-Ewers-Haskell-Vunipola in just one game. No idea wether that would actually work so add in Lawes and Robshaw

no scientifical reason other than i think he's a better centre, and the direction Lancaster is looking to go.

When I listen to Lancaster talk about the direction he wants England to move in, I'm always very impressed. Then when we play I'm always either a little dissapointed to downright angry.

Is this disconnect because Lancaster lies, because Farrell Snr doesn't have the vision as an attacking coach or because our players aren't good enough?

Answers on a postcard please.

Wow still going.

Pretty ****ing good effort in here I must say. After the squabbles are over and the AIs are done... is Good Number going to buy the first round? :p

I wasn't actually trying to start it all up again, just realised how it may have looked like that...

Basically, I'm trying to figure out how much each coach influences the general pattern of selection and game plan.

Can we finally get back to real selection omission/error that is hampering us massively:

Give him a few years to cement his place, I don't think England should be picking untried academy talent...

I think the first team in there is awesome although I'd have Roko in instead of watson tbh nothing against watson but rokos defense is awesome

For me:
+Mullan -Vunipola (because scrummaging)
+someone -Youngs (don't rate Youngs, a poor man's Brits for me, too error prone, darts not great, not a big scrummager, prefer a hooker which will get on with the tight carrying and what have you)
+Slater -Parling
+Croft -Wood (in the past, Croft has been accused of not doing enough work for a 6; we now have a front 5 with an enormous work rate, so a standard 6 doesn't really add much, would add Croft for lineout and loose skills)
+tbd (Cook? Robson? Wigglesworth?) -Youngs (haven't liked Youngs in years, hoping someone will put their hand up by the 6N)
+Kvesic -?????
+Roko -Goode (Nowell/Watson cover 15)

- I have very rarely seen Mako's scrummaging exposed off the bench, and his carrying is monstrous. I think Mullan has some work to do to be number 3.
- Poor man's Brits is no mean thing to be! A day when Youngs' throwing is on is a day when Youngs starts for me, unless we change our whole focus; I am dubious as to whether have another guy who just gets on with being grunt hooker who's good enough.
- If someone gets dropped for Slater, which would be an interesting call, it wouldn't be Parling, not in my England at least.
- Really worried about whether Croft will be available.
- Ben Youngs has blackmail material on the coaches, I'm sure of it... I console myself by convincing myself that the wheel of form will swing back us way some day
- I'd like Nowell and Watson to play more 15 before they can have Goode's place, agreed that Roko is dumping someone out on their ass (probably Watson at this stage)

Just on the 10's ... is Freddie Burns out of favour/dropped?

yes, he played well in NZ but struggled for form in an under performing injury ravaged Tigers, he seems to have become the kiss of death for whatever club he plays for.
