2014 QBE Internationals [EOYT] England

Goal kicking and game management wise I feel that he's been the most consistent and has a very underrated passing game. I don't really recall games where he has been rattled and broken down at all. I mean that is just my opinion, but it can't be an accident that Saints score a lot of tries. Sure he doesn't have a running game like Ford or Cips but he consistently puts the ball in front of his runners and puts them into gaps.

Meh, he wouldn't be anywhere near my EPS.

He plays behind a monster pack and still looks average.

King is working on him but he's not an international fly half... Myler doesn't win games. He just ups the points total saints win by.. If that makes sense.

All the Bath lot went pretty well today - still looking good form wise!
Good that there hasn't been any drop off since the squad announcement.

Fair enough I guess it's all subjective.

I see your point about the impact that the pack has but I think that that changes how he plays and doesn't need to be so flashy for the team to be successful if that makes sense. He puts the team into opposition territory and puts the ball in front of runners to deploy the power game. He doesn't need to be a match winner when you've got guys like Manoa, Pisi, North and Foden in the side.

But not England and that is what this thread is about...................!!

Fair enough, I was just trying to say that he is very good at his job when many people are saying that he is poor. I personally think it would be interesting to see him play for England if they're going to play say Burrell and Tuilagi in the centres. I'd feel confident that Myler could put them through a few holes and likewise with the pack.

Completely depends on the style England are going to play, at least it's added some diversity to the playing styles. I couldn't really see him working well with someone like Eastmond however, and that's where Ford and to a certain extent Farrell come in imo

Steve James said in his Telegraph review of the Bath game that Watson is being called into the England squad.

Deserved IMO - he's looked very sharp this season.

Burrell "a doubt" for the AI's apparently.

For me, if you can't fill the expected defensive duties of a position, you have an issue. Eastmond plays 12, England expects to lead the defence, he can't, there is an issue. Happily it's very easily patchable, although it creates an issue when Manu returns.

That sort of means eastmond is expected to create everything and run the defence ? In an ideal world we would have a player who can create like Kyle and defend like Brad we don't so have to try other options

Ideally, yes, England's 12 is expected to create, run the defence and probably be as physical as Manu.

Obviously, we don't have such a candidate - although when Twelvetrees isn't taking trips up brainfart alley he gets closer to such an ideal than most in world rugby - so we look for other options. No issue with that. Just it should be acknowledged where the shortcomings are so we know what sort of 13 to pair him with.

Ewers, Slade, Waldrom, Kvesic, Waller, Foden, Thomas, Watson and Wigglesworth all called in.

From the press release it sounds like Kvesic, Foden Wigglesworth and Watson have been included soley on merit, the others are injury cover for Haskell, Burrell, Billy, Davey Wilson and Joe Marler.

I wasn't aware of that!

It says both Marler and Wilson expected to be fit by the weekend.

Happy to see most of those guys in there!
Can't think of any I'd swap other than Wigglesworth for Robson.

Apparently he has a thigh strain but should be fit, according to the release. To be honest I'm sure Waller and Thomas would have come in anyway, as there are only four props in the paper EPS. It just so happens both our first choice props are a little sore this weekend.

Very happy Kvesic made it in the end, and that Slade is included. Not sure what I feel about Waldrom.

Excellent, I retract the filling of my pants.

That is not a nice mental image. Rep to you if you get the picture.

I know I would get rid of Waldrom, bring in Dickinson or Fraser.
