[2014 Mid-Year Tests] New Zealand vs England (3rd Test)

Lancaster being interviewed on sky sports. Farrell is out, which isn't a surprise, he was never likely to recover or be risked with a knee medial ligament injury; Care has not trained since the the 2nd test and is 50:50 at best, so another one unlikely to make the 3rd test, but 36 and Burrell have trained and should be available for selection, as long as they don't have any reaction to their ankle knocks.

Looking like the England 23 could be:

1. Marler
2. Hartley
3. Wilson
4. Launchbury
5. Lawes
6. Wood
7. Robshaw
8. Vunipola

9. Youngs
10. Burns
12. 36
13. Tuilagi

11. Yarde
14. Ashton
15. Brown

16. Webber
17. Mullen
18. Brookes
19. Parling
20. Morgan
21. Dickson
22. Cipriani
23. Eastmond.

I'm not bothered about Care being out, he looked out of the game - i guess i'd have preferred Dickson to start but hey ho.

I'd bench Launchbury, as he looked tired, and keep Parling in who is having a great tour.

I agree about care and also Launchbury......just noticing in current match that Dickson seems to have got the Youngs habit of taking a couple of strides before passing. Hope this is a temporary blip!!

A real shame that izzy dagg is injured, id of liked to see him on the wing with Ben smith at FB, simply because Cory Jane hasnt been in great form. Id like to know what you guys think of guys like Tim Nanai Williams from the chiefs who for past couple of seasons has shown great form at centre and wing but cant get a look in. CJ has form in the bank but this tour he hasnt shown anything IMO

For what it's worth I think twelve-trees and Burrel are pretty good and their performance last weekend was a little undervalued, however it's time to go on tilt, when you're holding a pair of twos and the chips are low it's time to go all in. Eastmond and Tuilagi please.

Tim nainai williams is a great player, although I much prefer him at fullback or wing then Centre. I would of thought coming into this june series hes close to cracking it, but the all black selectors inviting patrick osbourne as a training member would hint otherwise. Hes on the radar, hansen told him to get more aggressive on attack and d. I would say if he doesnt crack it on the end of year tour then never.

He is a great winger, was in better form last year but he was played on the wing more last year, for me he is a winger not a centre and maybe being played at centre has hurt his selection chances as he is not getting a chance to shine on the wing.

He is small though and maybe the selectors don't like that.

Probable NZ lineup:

1 Woodcock
2 Coles
3 Faumuina
4 Retallick
5 Whitelock
6 Kaino
7 McCaw
8 Read
9 Smith
10 Cruden
11 Savea
12 Nonu
13 Fekitoa
14 Jane
15 Smith

16 Mealamu
17 Franks
18 Franks
19 Tuipulotu
20 Messam
21 Kerr-Barlow
22 Barrett
23 Crotty

Probably just click-bait after the game this morning, but quite a few media sources are saying that it's not as simple as Burns coming straight back in for Farrell, and that Cipriani is in with a real chance of a start (or even Myler).

That said, I'd be astounded if that happened - I reckon Burns is nailed on, and it's like 70%:30% Cipriani:Myler

Yeah Burns was fine in the first test (especially when taking into consideration his early season forM), I'd be very surprised if they've suddenly changed their minds about who their #2 was based on that test and the Crusaders match. Surely it will be Burns at 10 and Cipriani backing him up.

I think AB fans may be disappointed; this is what Ian Foster had to say:

"The signs are good. He certainly trained well today," Foster said. "We had to kick him out of a few spots. He was a bit eager. He's raring to go and trained like that today. I can't see him playing 80 [minutes] but we'd love to get him on the park."

Having imposed his physical presence during the last two tests from the boot of the scrum, Kaino is probably more suited to cover Read than Messam, which, ironically, may see him start from the bench. (This part is Stuff website's own conjecture).

"If Reado is in the starting line-up we need to make sure we've got good cover for him later on in the game," Foster said. "Both Jerome and Liam have had significant workloads of late. It is tough but only because they're both playing well."

Read will definitely not last the full 80 minutes. So he will be subbed at some point. Another thing that suggests it's more likely to be Kaino on the bench than Messam is that I noticed that when Vito came on in the first two tests, he slotted in at 6 and did not swap with with Kaino to take 8 and Kaino to the Blindside position.

Lancaster has confirmed on Sky that Burns will start.

Journos claiming Cips would start a test match only three full days after starting a game were clearly click bait and/or stupid.

I think we'll loose Care as well. So probably Youngs/Burns with the centres being a real strange one considering we may or may not have two injured guys.

If 36 and Burrell are both broken, who the hell plays 12?

I think if I was Hansen I wouldn't risk Read . He's been out of action for the best part of 6 weeks with concussion ? Players welfare is far more important than playing read in a series that has already been won imo

Hard call tbh, yup one more week won't hurt for him as we have won the series and then he can slot back into super rugby , I reckon they would have asked Read if he wants to play this week and feels good and Read would have made the decision to make himself available.

After that Hansen would be thinking about getting him some rugby and seeing how he went.

I don't really follow the journalists point here. While I agree Kaino is better cover for 8 than Messam it doesn't mean he has to be on the bench. He could just start at 6 and switch to 8 when Read goes off and Messam comes on.....
