the thing I'm amazed with is how they won't train the guy (Bastareaud) adequately; even if it were against his will; about those things that would make him the true weapon he can be.
You're the coach, whoever PSA or backs coach Lagisquet: you look at film in a private session with the guy. Surely you got the time, he's one of two fkn starting centers for FRANCE atm.

Tell him he needs way more of an impact (of course that's got to do with the FH and the attack in general) and should be fed the ball deeper on the attack, not at level with the opposing defense.
Tell him to look for momentum and a strong impact; his weight will play a much bigger, more impactful role then.
Follow him up on his passing drills. BRAINWASH the guy with passing for weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks. Not crazy accurate 4-man skip passes, just quality offloads.
Teach him how to use his huge, wide body to look for contact and some penetration on attack, but find good balance and body control and immediately look to pass.
Teach him how to throw a few dummies and tell him in what sort of situation.
Teach him how to look like he's going for a huge impact ball in hand but in stead he's really reading overlaps in the defense and setting up a teammate for a quick pass.

There are so many good ways to use someone like Bastareaud at midfield, and it's both the coaches and the guy himself who just aren't nearly optimizing the potential.

Stupid thing is, Bastareaud used to be a far better player than he is - his breakthrough Six Nations he was bloody good, running great lines and offloading superbly. Now he's just resting on his laurels thinking "Well I'm bigger than most of these guys so I'll just run into them and hope for the best".

didn't want to bring up the old 2010 Grand Slam and his breakthrough year and all but yeh.
It's weird because he keeps saying there's mountain to climb, and you never work enough as a player, and he wants to get all the way up, and work on different aspects of his game, be more complete....etc...
I guess he's just stuck being him right now, and unless someone comes in and tells him what he needs to do, it won't change.

dude trust me. For decency (and too much repetition already)'s sake I won't lay it all out, but we're very injured. I might get the full list out if we lose though, don't worry ! :p

to be fair on you i shouldn't get my hopes up that fast. you still have Dulin who can be a dangerous runner, bastareaud who can be dangerous if hes playing a good game and huget who in my opinion is a good winger. scotland as i say do have a chance since the key players for france are out but there are still players in the french team who could make a huge impact in the team

Haha it's lost on these frogs !

What makes me laugh about a lot of you guys is, mention the word POM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and you are all up in arms (especially when its a Whinging Pom) and you immediately commence your bleating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but you freely use the word Frogs!!!!!!!!!!!!! thinking this is fine, me thinks some of you need to look at the word "respect" take the pi** is fine as long as it is funny, we have broad shoulders, but respect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! must still be an agenda!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, the irony!

back to topic then, i want to see cusiter start, i think laidlaw takes long to pass the ball out and we still have weir who can take penalties and conversion and cusiter can captain too if Kelly Brown doesn't get picked again

and woop woop 700th POST! :D

well yeah but the thing is France wouldn't be in danger here if they had a real plan and chemistry. It wouldn't matter who the players were if we had a serious system just as long as the wingers can run a little, the centers can make a pass or two, the FH can deliver passes consistently as the SH, the loosies can put in a big effort constructively at the breakdown, and so on...

But France have so far survived on individual talent this year: one win over a Top4 side, one beatdown, and one beatdown of our own in Cardiff...

The only consistently good collective things we have are the scrum, to some extent the lineout, and the defense. Which to be honest (and with all due respect) might be enough if all three are engaged at the high level we usually operate at, add in a couple of good mauls and one or maybe two meaningful breaks from either of Dulin, Huget, Bonneval, Fickou; we needn't play a fabulous game to win, but merely a simple/consistent one with the chance of a break every now and then..

and yet you're the one who crosses the line each and every single time while unprompted, not talked to or concerned in the slightest way. Kinda like a.....what's that called again....ah yes. A parasite.

I was talking more about his need to put 500 exclamation points in every post

Well it is a forum . So if I don't agree I thought I might be within my rights to give my opinion ? Is that right ? ;)

yes but rugby has changed so much since the Sella era. All top nations have big ball carriers as centers. Its a different game. The rules have changed, players are bigger fitter etc.

Bastareau has improved defensively. That was evident agst Eng. He was criticised in previous seasons for his brittle defensvie play, poor positioning even his taclking ability. This is honestly an area of his game he has worked in Toulon under Laporte. He is having a reasonable championship. I don't see any centres other than Fofana really setting the championship on fire either. The issue at centre is more a partnership issue. PSA has to find the right 12-13 partnership
