2014 6 Nations: Ireland vs Italy (Round 4)

Why would he want Gatland to do that when he can have his pick of Temple Bar and the whole of Dublin (nay Ireland) tonight!!!

oh God no...7 tries. 45 pts dropped on the visiting side...a scoreline reminiscent of the older 6N days against Italy.

Ireland fans are going to be on an ultra-erection all week long, and if they win in Paris......good Lord almighty, if they win in Paris...the very thought of it gives me trouble breathing, and I'm not even asthmatic. I might go buy an inhaler during the week just in case..

In fairness lads McFadden did well but fact is if you say it was a huge impact against a poor Italian team then well fair enough but your being fooled. Our back 3 were poor. D'Arcy did well crashing ball and BOD was good. But we were against poor opposition who were out of gas after 50. Pack did well and been honest I thought Toner was best player in pack today.

That interview at the end was incredible, the silence of one moment as he spoke followed by the noise afterwards was pretty special also the fact that not a signal person left their seats before he had his chance to say goodbye. Really shows what he means to irish rugby.

Good and fair summary!

is this Shakespeare, or are we still talking about Rugby here ?

Good and fair summary!

It's just a fact. Italy have constantly said England is game they're targeting. They rested a lot today and fact is for all ball we had today in 1st half we were 10 ahead.
Our 2 Kearneys were terrible for try conceded. POC was sidestepped too much. No player wanted to be a carrier excepts Healy and Toner. We looked good in last 20 but as I said Italy were out of it and had no interest.

You can only play what's in front of you though, McFadden had a very good cameo, Trimble had a great game and Kearney didn't get as much on his wing but still played well with a lovely touch, one which the alternative wouldn't have made, for Sexton's second try.

If you're not happy with a 40 point win over the Italians you're being ridiculous.

.............as I said Italy were out of it and had no interest.

...you were doing so well up until then!

Of course they were interested and involved throughout....truth is they were fantastic in the first half, tired throughout the second and were throughout the game, a 2nd Tier team but they were interested, desperately trying to be competitive and totally committed in everything they did!

No don't get me wrong I don't mean they gave up. They just gave too much effort and simply had nothing left to be in it. They made 123 tackles in 1st half or something. It's not that they weren't committed just hadn't a gasp left. Don't get me wrong they were the more exciting team in 1st half

Rob, was poor for the try Dave always had a difficult job racing across with loads of space and support runners coming. Neither can be properly blamed for last week btw. PO'C's "sidestepping" actually kind of worked. Heaslip had good yards as well and Ruddock and McGrath had some good carries of the bench. All were willing to carry it's just hard to make good yardage of 9 against a frest, big and set defense. The back three actually made some good inroads in attack in case you didn't notice. Your constant lack of excepting anything as good is bordering on ridiculous now. We have one more match with it completely in our hands to win a championship. We're actually in a pretty good place right now whether you choose to accept it or not.

OK...but it was the "no interest" that seemed a tad unfair. Incidentally....who are the 6 who were rested as can not think of them?

Being realistic is fair enough, but this is just being pessimistic. How the hell was the back 3 poor? The last time I saw it Kearney made 111 meters and beat 4 defenders. Trimble had his best game of the Six Nations so far, with some good hits and plenty of ball carrying. D.Keaney was a bit more quiet but was far from poor.
Italy did tire at the end yes, but the first half from Italy was the best I've seen them in a long time, their defense and attack was so much better.

The pack I thought actually done very well, they didn't make a lot of yards for the first 25 minutes against a charged Italy but after that there really wasn't much to complain about.

Both should've done a lot better. And this is no "Get better in etc". Rob had his man at perfect angle and with line as his friend and failed. Dave had the right cover and slipped poorly and should've been better. Both had large fault in English try too. POC was passed easily on few occasions and had it been against a France or England then we'd have been punished. I thought Heaslip was poor enough. Ruddock did well with great work to steal back for Cronins try. McGrath was ok. Back 3 ran but beat no one and got ball in open field. I wasn't impressed by them in attack bar Kearney made good run or 2. And just being realistic. Our pack are play superbly our back aren't. There's nothing ridiculous about that statement it's fact.

@Tony. Their 2 half back, Parrise and Zanni were 4 anyway

Sorry being realistic as I said Italy weren't great and were flat out of it after 50. I mentioned Kearney made good yards but a lot were in open field returning kick or wide.

2 interesting stats:

Ireland conceded their most turnovers in 2years
Italy set world record for most tackles in a match wit 208
