2013 Pacific Nations Cup: Japan vs. Canada 19/06/13 19:10 P.M. JST(6:00 A.M. EDT, 3:00 A.M. PDT) @ Mizuho Rugby Stadium, Nagoya, Japan

Coverage: Stream: IRB website and rugbycanada.ca TV: Live on Sportsnet World(Canada....as of now) and I assume will be carried live in Japan but I don't know their station.

Canada and Japan will face each other both on short rest on Wednesday in Japan. Canada will possibly need a strong performance to win the PNC, as it looks like Fiji/Tonga are both also putting themselves in a position to win. It is going to EXTREMELY difficult for the Canadian though, as all the injuries are piling up and now the 7's players have had to go on to the 7's WC, so the team will no longer have Mack, Hearn, Moonlight, Dala, Hirayama and possibly more(White and Ardron I'm not sure about). I would assume Rugby Canada will have to bring in some reinforcements, but the backline is certain to be one of the worst we've ever fielded.

Japan will be looking to continue their great form after a win vs. Wales, but will want to avoid a letdown after the emotional high of that game, they will want to play a backs oriented game as Canada's pack should still be strong and could be the only advantage Canada holds over the Blossoms heading into this one.

Yes, the timing certainly sucks from a Canadian point of view, losing all of those sevens players ... the rest of the regulars are starting to look a little beat up too

... of interest to TRFers is that the TRF international Shield is up for grabs on this one too :)

If I would have to hazard a guess at the Canadian lineup it might be something like...(I'm assuming Evans is a no go, and Ardron, Duke, Mack, Hearn, Moonlight, Dala, Hirayama are heading to the 7's WC.) As you can see the forwards aren't bad but the backline could be almost farcically patched together....)

1. Hubert Buydens
2. Ray Barkwill
3. Jason Marshall
4. Brett Beukeboom
5. Jon Phelan
6. Jebb Sinclair
7. Tyler Hotson
8. Aaron Carpenter
9. Sean White
10. Liam Underwood
11. Taylor Paris (If he's not going to the 7's WC and Evans isn't healthy)
12. Harry Jones (Blevins if he's healthy and Jones isn't playing 7's)
13. Pat Parfrey
14. James Pritchard
15. Connor Braid

16. Ryan Hamilton
17. Andrew Tieddemann
18. Doug Wooldridge
19. Cam Pierce
20. Aaron Flagg?
21. Eric Wilson?
22. Mike Fuailefau?
23. Jordan Wilson-Ross?

Harry Jones will almost certainly go to the 7s WC.

De Goede might as well, if thats the case than Crowley may actually have to call up a guy not named in the 44 man side, if Evans and Blevins can't get healthy for Wednesday, since we are out of backs that he named to the 44 man extended sqaud...or the bench will have to be 6 forwards and 2 backs or something.

The 7's side should be named soon, that will give us a better indication of the potentail XV's side, I'll have to perform my best rain dance as I want Mizuho to be a swamp for the game!!!

I expect a young inexperienced side to go. Hopefully Pierce will get some game time, I want to see him play.

Btw, I have posted my 'player ratings' on the Ireland thread.

Yeah saw that canadafan, I agreed with the gist of your ratings, mine would be similar give or take a point or so on a couple of players.

I just thought that maybe White isn't going to go to the 7's WC, so maybe he starts at #9 and than Wilson is in at the #21 jersey.

You would give Hirayama a 2/10!

Or a 0/10 perhaps....LOL. I probably would have given him a 3.5-4/10....1/10 is like Ryan Smith against Japan 2007 bad....

In all seriousness, it's a shame Ander Monro didn't stick with the team for another couple of years until some of the better propsects at #10 get older. But I understand he had a young family and a career to get to, he is most definately missed though.

Yeah, we do miss Munro, I was surprised he didn't hang around for a little longer.

Looks like White is indeed on the flight to Japan, as expected Moonlight and Mack will not be available for Japan, I'll try to piece together some more of who's going based on twitter.

The sentence "we are out of backs named to 44 man extended squad" is mind boggling.

I'm hoping for rain as well.

Truer words have never been spoken on TRF :D

It's a testament to the hard work of the team that we are 3-1 this spring going into the final game. Hopefully Evans and Blevins are a go for Wednesday that would go a long way to avoiding fielding a 4th-5th choice backline.

12: Blevins (I think that is who you are referring too)

I actually like that backline more than the one that took the pitch against Ireland. Glad Underwood is at 10, he has a lot of potential. The forwards are alright, hopefully they will have the enthusiasm to go the distance. Two locks on the bench, btw.

Thats off the Oceania rugby site so it should be accurate, Rugby Canada have yet to confrim, if that lineup is bang on...than I have some hope, bench is a little inexperienced/shocking though.

As I said, considering all our injuries, I quite like that back line. Hopefully Braid will have a better game at FB too.

Lineup has been confirmed by Rugby Canada and has been added to the first post, looks like we are still going to use some 7's guys in this match than they'll fly on to Russia. Not sure what happened to Sinclair, he worked his butt off in the last two games so maybe Crowley said don't worry about making the trip. Looks liek Evans did not get healthy either.
